  • Am I a 'real youtuber' now that I've cried in a video?
In light of the stop asian hate and anti asian racism occurring, I wanted to share my stories of growing up asian australian and maybe bring insight into how things build up and how it affects us. I've wanted to make this even before I ever started a youtube, but silence doesn't feel like an option anymore. Putting my traumas up for everyone so...enjoy? :D

None of what was done to you is ok! Shame on those people, ignorant and hurtful humans.
I have nieces and nephews that are mixed race and I am horrified that they may have suffered the same things you have.
Thank you for your honesty, and I am so sorry you have had to deal with this. By the way I love your freckles 😍

Oh yeah, Asian-Australians are most certainly a thing! Speaking up, truthtelling and calling out what is bad and what is not okay is the start of turning the tide. Thanks for sharing your story.

Thanks so much for making this video and speaking out on your personal experiences with racism (overt & covert) in Australia. You are definitely right that all people of color contend with racism as a norm in their lives, in some form. At least in predominately white countries. This can include random acts of violence, but most often involves what is called "micro aggressions". Which involve racially tinged comments , insinuations and discrimination which serves to place a given person of color in a box and assign to them a stereotypical role, based on what their (fill in race) is supposed to act & be like.
In this video you also touched on other important parts of the dynamic, such as intra (same race) interactions in predominately white settings. Whereby non white people of the same race literally compete for the approval and acceptance of whites. Also, the experiences that interracial couples have with racism and people who object to mixed marriages/ relationships in Australia.
    Kudos!

I'm really sorry you had to go through these negative experiences, but thank you for speaking your truth. It really shows us how racism can come in many forms and we can all educate ourselves on how to combat them. Hope you're well especially given all that's been happening to the API community across the globe

I’m half asian and born in Australia and I’ve been brought up to think I’m not Australian, I’m still a foreigner. It’s funny to me now, I use to be hurt by the threats racist people would say ‘go back to your country’, I was stalked by a racist, they don’t care if you have a child and another made a gesture to slit my throat. Hate is a powerful thing and when you are the target it’s better to be cautious where you go and what you say and who you trust. It’s not easy for us and with Covid going on I think this just their way of getting away with abuse. I feel for my fellow coloured people, I look up to African people they have amazing strength and I do pray all this hate will go away. Racism isn’t healthy and will affect children and I do not want to see children suffer because of racism.

it petty that way in all anglo countries. though feel like asians and mix asians in usa are becoming less foreign. I move to serval place in life in usa. I current live in Cedar Rapids which medium city. asians are tiny minority but common enough to not be exotic. also about half asian in Cedar Rapids seems to native born. Only problem I white so I can tell how each is in terms in racisms because I do see any when I go to stores or restaurants. In Plano tx is 1/3 asian and one of cities in usa with least asian racism that know of.

I am sorry that you have to go through all these shit. I am blessed that I am an Asian who grew up in Asia. Recently I travelled to Australia for a couple months. I can always feel there's some kind of strange aura every time I talk to the locals (not sure if I was being subjective idk). Anyway, some moments of the trip made me a bit uncomfortable. Can't imagine how you have gone through all these ever since you were a kid. Thanks so much for sharing these with us. Sending virtual hug---> *hug *hug

Thank you for sharing this. I cried with you in the video.
As an Asian woman in Australia, I was exactly like you growing up. I’ve become such a polite and bubbly person because I tried and tried to get people to like me. It’s still very hard to stand up for myself since most of the time, they don’t care or are intimidating. But now I don’t just suck it up anymore. I sympathise their stupidity and the lack of education. They must have low self-esteem and insecurities or just unhappy in life that they have to put that on easy targets.

    • @FridayKnits
      @FridayKnits  ปีที่แล้ว +1

thank you for sharing! Yes I've stood up for myself so much more and it's a mixed bag of reactions, there are people who look shocked and shut up, and people who will be so outraged that I called them out that they start saying things like 'I can''t believe someone like YOU would say that' or just start commenting on my appearance out of no where. People are just insecure and I make sure to point it out to them if they come after me

@@FridayKnits I’m going to stand up for myself more. Unless told directly, they wouldn’t realise how immature and uneducated they are. Thank you so much for sharing!

Racism against Asian Australians is more common recently. Thanks for talking about this on YT. A lot of representation in the media especially the news are of Asian foreigners or Chinese nationals with foreign accents which does not represent local Asian australians.

Australia isn’t a western country but we share their ideals if that’s what you meant. Also as a white male living in Australia I can tell you that people not liking you doesn’t really have to do with race. The amount I was bullied in school is insane. I wasn’t attacked or anything (I’m strong enough to hold my own) but I was introverted which is considered weird in society. But I don’t correlate me being bullied as a race issue because it’s a matter of hierarchy. Because white asian and blacks all bullied if they had the power to.

@@gromster1337 How did I make the second comment about me? I responded to you idiot, but ok.And what point did I miss? I acknowledged that a lot of that was racism I don't think it all was though, but a lot was.
