Long video but great instructions. I love getting techniques taught to me by smaller and weaker practitioners. I don’t want techniques I can only use on weaker/less athletic opponents. I want techniques that work against people who are larger and stronger than me.
4:22 when I reach inside for chicken wing, I usually get rolled by large people before I can get further. I can prevent the roll if I spiral ride, but then it is harder to roll them. Any advice on how to avoid rolling with that chickenwing grip?
@LeAnn Purdy As you've mentioned, you will almost certainly get rolled if you catch that 1-on-1 grip without securing the leg trap first... especially the way she is showing where you retreat slightly to expose the near side arm. Any time you ride the turtle like this hip to hip with pressure into them, you cannot let your arm be trapped, even your wrist is a gamble with a skilled opponent. I saw you mention the spiral ride / crotch pry which is a fine control, primarily when the arm is not trapped as it keeps your far arm safe from the roll AND you can pull them to disrupt their base and expose the arm (or sink a hook to take the back.) If you are rolled once the leg is trapped and you have the chicken wing, I actually find it easier to finish as their is the dilemma of the choke coupled with the arm bar.
She talked about that free arm you have to post on the mat. If you are so small that you can't place enough pressure on their hip in combination with one hand posted on the mat, then this technique might not be great for you against much larger people. Alternatively, you may just have to make it about speed... if you can get the arm wrapped up with your legs really fast then the roll means only good things for you
I dont understand something....as soon as you stick you hand in on someones side if they are big they just trap your arm and roll....I've seen it over and over
How do you keep wrist control against a resisting opponent i find they escape. Also how do you deal with the opponent driving back into you pinning you to the ground?
If you're talking about the legs side, try pinching your knees together instead of just a triangle. If it's the arms side, i always use the kimura grip and push it tight into their body. Two hands stronger than one. Then I'd start hunting for the subs
What an excellent instructor Heather is. Wow. I learned so much from this video. Thank you!

If you isolate the arm it doesn't matter he is doing the work for you. You can also catch the arm when he rolls you. Bait it.
Awesome!
can you do armbar from mount tutorial?

Being pinned is not a finish.
Very nice :)
You never see something like this in a tournament though

MG did this 5years ago.
Dude say tap, it's ok
1:39 stick your right hand in like that & you'd be rolled over & pinned immediately, 100%.
