  • This is the second of two short excerpts from a very long and important interview that Marechera gave to the Dutch journalist Alle Lansu in February 1986 at Marechera's flat, 8 Sloane Court, in Harare.
In this second excerpt, Lansu asks Marechera about when and how he wrote his internationally-acclaimed book The House of Hunger. Marechera also talks about his publication record before working with Heinemann - his eventual publisher - his rejection of the kind of English literature that he studied at Oxford, his literary influences, and racism.
