Jack Jouett's Ride

On June 3-4, 1781, during the American Revolution, British forces made a daring attempt to capture Governor Thomas Jefferson and the Virginia legislature. Virginia's revolutionaries were saved by the warning of a lone horseman, Jack Jouett. Inspired by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's famous ode about Paul Revere, this poem tells the story of Jack Jouett's nighttime ride.
