Uhm I don't think so. Because all the Watches that cost some thousands have a worth of maybe 300-500 Euro :D If you are interested in the Technology behind the watches you will see that Brands like Rolex, Breitling etc. are so cheap like Iphone, Adidas or other Brands of different Products. And all the people (excuse me) buy that shit for much money and nothing stand behind the Brand. Simple Rule: "We buy things we don't need, to impress people we don't like"
Here in Sweden it is very unusal to see small watches. Every guy i see got a 48mm AP homage. I really hope you guys are right and the big size trend is going away.
Va?? haha, jag ser typ bara fashionklockor typ Hilfiger, Boss, DW etc. Men det är personer i min skola, 16-18 åringar. Men ser dock väldigt många äldre bära Subs och Omegas där jag bor
Keep Me Where the Light Is. I followed John Mayer to HODINKEE "Talking Watches" quite some time ago. Then fell down the horological rabbit hole and eventually found TGV and then Federico. I love HODINKEE as entertainment and a great source of information, but I don't live in that neighborhood. You guys, on the other hand, are much more relatable and also highly informative and entertaining at the same time. I love your vids, am a Subscriber to both of your channels, and thank you both for the great information you provide. Keep up the great job!
Good video guys. I hate the lack of micro adjustment on bracelet clasps. Not particular to any brand, I have a number of watches with this "problem". e.g. my Eterna Kontiki which probably has one of the best quality bracelet/clasp combos I have come across can become a bit tight in the summer.
The box that comes with the Frederique Constant Runabout is pretty ridiculous, but it comes with a nice model boat. My big pet peeves are a date window on a vintage style watch, especially if it's in an awkward location on the dial, like at 4 o'clock, and dress watches bigger than 40mm.
5:45 I made that mistake putting a 20 mm nato on a 22mm lug. It acted like a strap wrench and pulled the bottom pin out. The strap slid up and when placed under tension gripped the pin. Then when it slid down it carried the middle of the pin with it compressing the bottom spring and allowing the relaxed top spring tip to jump out of the lug hole.
Invicta boxes are pretty ridiculous as well. Their "dive" cases that hold several watches. Just in case you find yourself on a sinking ship, your box of cheap watches will be safe?
Pet peeve of mine is mismatching date wheel colour and dial colour. The Omega Aqua Terra with the "white" dial is guilty of this. Because of the teak effect the dial can look cream coloured whilst the date wheel is pure white. They have a similar problem with the black dial version which, to my eyes, sometimes can look dark brown. This version has the black date wheel and the two almost never look the same colour!
1. Big boxes. Why on earth do I get huge boxes? What am I going to do with them, build a barricade? 2. No AR-coating, especially on sports watches. Really, Rolex? Really? 3. Price increases. We've been an Omega-family since the 50's, we know the price of these things.
Biggest pet peeve is when the second hand doesn't line up with the indices. Seems inevitable to avoid that. Unless you buy a automatic with a sweeping second hand
I understand the watch geek love of screws but I have NEVER had a pin back its way out. If my life changed and I did own a Patek I would definitely want it pinned.
Sorry Federico, I switched off soon as I heard your first peev. Pins are awesome. I've adjusted literally dozens of Omega, TAGHeuer etc. They are very secure, and I've done it all with a 10 buck watch tool set I picked up from Hong Kong! Omega screws - now those thing are MAJOR peeves. Stupid tiny little things that can easily be butchered or lost (Grand Seiko the same). But if you're gonna go with screws, do it like Rolex - those are nice big meaty screws. But having said that, I've even had a Rolex screw that wouldn't budge (on a 2006 Explorer), whereas I've NEVER had a pin I couldn't carefully tap out with my $10 tool set!
1000lightyrs Little bit of rust off gets those stubborn screws everytime.. Re insert with a jewelers loupe and stripping should be a non issue.. I can never go back to pins..
I don't get watch brands that offer the same watch in 44mm and the same watch in 41mm at exactly the same price point. If your getting less material you should pay less. I understand people have different wrist sizes. Brietling is a perfect example. With the Colt automatic and in the super oceans. Love the watches. Just not the price points sometimes.
My greatest pet peeves is watches that don't hack and one very important one you forgot to mention is watches where the minute hand falls way short of the minute marker! Really annoying!
I think a chrono version of that 'thick' seiko was nominee to the PETITE AIGUILLE of the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève. I think that's best award a watch can get....
This is one which has less to do with the watches themselves and more with actually wearing a watch: the crud (oils, dead skin, god knows what) that builds up in watch bracelets and casebacks. I feel like I only need to wear a watch for a week or two before it appears. I should wash it away, but if the watch isn't fully water proof, it's a bit of a hassle.
You should make one with a real cardboard cutout :-) I have one with 17 mm lugs. Haven't seen even a brown option. It stays on the same black leather all the time.
What's up guy's. In your opinion do you feel that the Rolex DSSD fits that "to big" category? My wrist is just under 8 inches. I have big forearms that I think makes the watch look just fine on me. The watch is large but I don't find it clownish. The DSSD is my everyday and I have a Glashutte senator observer as my dress watch. I'd love to hear from you. Love both channels and I enjoy the videos. Well done. Thanks.
Maybe the solution is that the watch is sold with a travel case. It would avoid the need to haul around the massive box in which was originally sold and presented.
One thing that really gets me is a poor bracelet on a £500+ watch. Two things: Hollow end links and cheap stamped clasps! The Tag F1 GMT has a horrible cheap clasp and hollow end links, on a watch of that price? Not on!
just thought of another ;) - to draw an analogy between the watch and car industries.... Many car manufacturers to get your business offer "first service free" - now wouldn't THAT be nice on an entry level Rolex? And another - when brands market a 38mm watch as a ladies range (Breitling transocean 38 and Omega Speedy automatic are examples). If the watch looks good on you its unisex for god sake.Omega planet Ocean also has NO clasp adjustment at all - just a diver extension of 2 full links - so its 2 full links or nothing which is hopeless frankly.
its the micro adjustmet to allow comfort from wrist expansion due to heat that I mean. On holiday 90 degrees in and out pool - your wrist does swell. bracelet sizing and clasp micro adjustment are different things
Size-wise, exactly - size for function. I'm with TGV on the oddball lug width sizes. I had a Chopard Mille Miglia and it's 19mm width drove me nuts. One that annoys me is non-drilled lugs. Drilled lugs make changing straps so easy. And - to me - they don't ruin the look. Take a look at Grand Seiko for example - drilled lugs and they look fine. Ciao, John
I suspect that the main reason Patek don't put screws in their 5711 is so that we have to go back to the dealers and get them resized, instead of doing it themselves with screws. ;)
The thing the most annoys me is that most of modern watches come with date window. Seems that they are lazy to take the date pieces out from the movement or something...
I saw a guy wearing one of those incredibly obtuse Invictas last week. The weight would literally kill him if he fell into the ocean. On the other hand, it could be used as a weapon as well.
I am told from another lesser video master, that Patek avoid hacking because it would increase the thickness of the movement and it has an effect of the robustness/strength/lifespan of the movement.
We share many pet peeves. One that i wanted to mention is when people exclusively use wrist size to determine appropriate size of the watch, completely forgetting body size and built that does not always fully coincides with wrist size. Also when determining watch size people do not take into consideration type of watch (dress, diver, pilot, field...) And I get totally pissed when people compare (duel) watches from two different levels (Sinn and Seiko fan boys are frequent culprits) . Love you videos buddy! BIG LIKE!
#1 most annoying pet peeve... When the watch hasn't been finely tuned at the factory, and you have a watch that runs too fast or too slow. And you have to adjust the time every couple of days.
LOL. My Patek doesn't hack (but it's a 1989 Officer's watch). However, my Piaget Emperador Dual Time Zone bought this year also doesn't hack (WTF?!) but has instant date change (6 minutes before midnight!). The Piaget is an automatic. Regarding watch boxes.. My Breguet is big enough to hold my shoes.
TGV tell is your domicile in Williamsburg? At end of Broadway and Kent Ave a mere few blocks from Peter Luger’s? I pose the query as the view from the Brooklyn side with the Willy-B is dead give away ha. That is my old neighborhood as me Mum lives on Wilson.

I disagree with the box, I love the design that goes into a beautiful watch box. To me the interesting boxes are part of the best part of a new brand. I have a display of watch boxes on my way highlighting all the different designs. TGV I have a large zodiac watch collection that I would love to send you the watches to review the brand no strings attached just let me know. Cheers
Oversized watches. The Stowa marine could have been an amazing watch had it been 37 or 38mm. Really a missed opportunity. Same with a lot of the longines heritage pieces. And the Zenith El Primero, a damn shame as well. Lovely watch but too big.
Federico I LOVE your enthusiasm for watches and the way you speak with passion about watches, I like TGV but his videos tend to get boring if they're longer than 6-7 minutes. And you have a very deep masculine voice which makes you videos more entertaining!
my pet peeve is hollow links and especially hollow end links on watches over $150 just tinny rattling and horrible should be doing better for that price point
biggest bet peeve is when you have a beautiful watch....then the manufacturer shoehorns in a horrible, ill fitting date window! best boxes I think are the piano black Tudor boxes. perfect size and lovely finish.
My biggest pet peeve is nato straps and the way they bunch up at the top of the watch case. It looks ridiculous and yet everybody swears by them and I've never read about anybody complaining about that. When I first bought one I thought that maybe I somehow installed the band incorrectly because it looked so I guess unfinished. But then I see them on youtube all the time. Does that bother anybody else.
It really pisses me off that watches nowadays are oriented towards big sizes. So each dress watch shoud be available in at least two differents sizes for different wrists (e.g. 36mm and 40mm).
I just got an 15400 ap, and one of the things I hate about is that it is it doesn't really fit without a halflink (and a halflink looks kinda ugly) hate that
How about when watch makers use large sub dials which partly cover the numerals and instead of designing their way out of it they just butcher the number. It,s a form of design illiteracy. It,s akin to a photo in a magazine obscuring the text because they were too incompetent to re size either the image or the text. !!
Propietary lugs . Thickness . Size .... Why in the world a dress watch would come with an automatic movement ; hand winding the watch is part of the ritual of dressing up un wearing it , besides , that makes the watch unnecessarily thick for the cuffs . That stupid crownlike thing on the left side of the Omega Seamaster .
I recently got a Speedmaster Professional It is my first luxury watch. I am the second owner, but my Speedy is in mint condition. Like you discussed, it doesn't hack, which I think is a little disappointing.. Also, it comes in the special presentation box, which I love! Yes, it is big, but it definitely adds to the experience, for me that is.. However I can understand that some people prefer a smaller standard box.
SO ANNOYING...when the "Watcherati" mispronounce Patek--and props here to Federico for getting it right! Antoni Patek was Polish, not French or Swiss. His first company was Patek Czapek, pronounced PAH-teck CHAH-peck. They made pocket watches designed with Polish historical themes. Frenchman Phillippe came in much later. We Poles don't get a whole lot of credit for much, so at least pronounce the man's name correctly. Baseball fans, think of KC Royals legend Freddie Patek to get it right. (We'll give TGV a pass since he's half Brit-half Italian and all mixed up.)
Federico are you Italian? I'm Italian and I was wondering if you were because of your name (the same as mine!) I thought you were American 100% I got "tricked" by your awesome English (if you are Italian obviously)! Btw keep up the good work, I love your contents so much Greetings from Italy With alle the love Federico
My biggest complaint is I can't afford the watches I want and don't want the watches I can afford.
Ha! I think that is everyones pet peeve!
Try Ball watch! Less money and just awesome time pieces!
Billthesheepdog I agree for the most part. Some Balls are classic and others it looks like they got their style from Invicta. Polorizing brand.
I think Timex makes some great looking affordable watches.
Here in Sweden it is very unusal to see small watches. Every guy i see got a 48mm AP homage. I really hope you guys are right and the big size trend is going away.

what is it with swedes, and AP watches
That’s because you guys are all twice as tall as the guys in other countries are...
My biggest complaint is when the bezel doesn't perfectly align with the hour marker.
White date displays on a non white face! Thanks for the video Federico, take care.
Great video Federico, You and TGV make a great team. What really chaps my ass is when a watch I really like has a price tag I can't afford! lol!
Amen brother
I love these videos with both these guys. I love both their channels, but the two of them together is always a treat!
Keep Me Where the Light Is. I followed John Mayer to HODINKEE "Talking Watches" quite some time ago. Then fell down the horological rabbit hole and eventually found TGV and then Federico. Feeling really bummed out but you guys bring a smile to my face every time
Thanks Thomas! That is really nice of you to say! Keep your head up bro!
When my $900 Squale 1521 has a 60 click bezel, yet my $159 Seiko 5 has a beautiful 120 clicks. Irks me every time I use the bezel! Great video guys.
Good video guys. I hate the lack of micro adjustment on bracelet clasps. Not particular to any brand, I have a number of watches with this "problem". e.g. my Eterna Kontiki which probably has one of the best quality bracelet/clasp combos I have come across can become a bit tight in the summer.
great vids guys, keep it up. What pisses me off is when watches don't have a screw down crown.
It's so much fun to watch you guys! There is always something to lough about! And TGV, you're welcome for inventing the glide lock clasp! ;)
Yeah I feel you on the date window... I wonder how much less the watch would cost if they didnt include the boat
5:45 I made that mistake putting a 20 mm nato on a 22mm lug. It acted like a strap wrench and pulled the bottom pin out. The strap slid up and when placed under tension gripped the pin. Then when it slid down it carried the middle of the pin with it compressing the bottom spring and allowing the relaxed top spring tip to jump out of the lug hole.
totally agree guys, super video! 19mm lug width and over sides dress watches drive me insane!!!!
Thanks for watching Woz
Invicta boxes are pretty ridiculous as well. Their "dive" cases that hold several watches. Just in case you find yourself on a sinking ship, your box of cheap watches will be safe?
what do you think of the datejust ii for a larger wrist? Or do you stick with the classic 36mm?
I have a few: gold plated watches, small movements in a big case(the date goes almost in the middle of the watch), over price watches.
The small movement thing drives me nuts as well
Pet peeve of mine is mismatching date wheel colour and dial colour. The Omega Aqua Terra with the "white" dial is guilty of this. They have a similar problem with the black dial version which, to my eyes, sometimes can look dark brown. This version has the black date wheel and the two almost never look the same colour!
You should see the size of some of the U Boat boxes, 3 feet coffins, but beautiful.
Great video guys, enjoyed it 👍😎

Ace! You gents should so this more often. :)
Did you guys cover bezel play? Can't remember... It's the number 1!
I saw a vintage omega yesterday with 17mm lugs! So strange.
what do you think about glycine 48 kmu
I understand the watch geek love of screws but I have NEVER had a pin back its way out. If my life changed and I did own a Patek I would definitely want it pinned.

For non hackable Patek, I've heard the hack is not very good for the mouvement.
Quartz watches except for GS spring drive
This is one which has less to do with the watches themselves and more with actually wearing a watch: the crud (oils, dead skin, god knows what) that builds up in watch bracelets and casebacks. Great video guys! 👍🏻

Busy dials. There's no need for so much text, i could certainly live without it. Rolex/Tudor take heed.
i just came across this vid now. checked the kickstarter watch site, its closed.
Greedy watch companies increasing the prices every year....
now they are learning the hard way!
just thought of another ;) - to draw an analogy between the watch and car industries.... What is the seiko that's in your hand at 11:52 ??
Sarv S it's in the presage line. That's all I know.
Thanks a lot - I'll see if i can find it... it actually didn't look half bad to me.
I suspect that the main reason Patek don't put screws in their 5711 is so that we have to go back to the dealers and get them resized, instead of doing it themselves with screws.

Great Video Fed....
#1 most annoying pet peeve... When the watch hasn't been finely tuned at the factory, and you have a watch that runs too fast or too slow. And you have to adjust the time every couple of days.
Christian Cerna don't buy shitty watches
I used to own the same Piaget Emperor Dual Timezone... I wish it hacked as well
Any horological reason why a high end watch released today wouldn't hack?
Movement architecture... That is the only reason... Maybe the way the movement was designed just didnt allow for it... Not a good excuse though
I love TUDOR watches, I think they are at the top.
One of my pet peeves is good quality watches that don't have anti-reflective coating on the crystal. Come on guys, it's 2016. Readability of the dial is a HUGE feature of a watch
Nice one ..cheers.
Haha watching these vids back to back, Gold lol
Can't stand when date wheel doesn't match the dial, specially on a dark or contrasting dial
I used to put my watch in a sock then inside and eyeglass case
yes, a collaboration !
Federico I LOVE your enthusiasm for watches and the way you speak with passion about watches, I like TGV but his videos tend to get boring if they're longer than 6-7 minutes. And you have a very deep masculine voice which makes you videos more entertaining!
LOL TGV at the beginning
my pet peeve is hollow links and especially hollow end links on watches over $150 just tinny rattling and horrible should be doing better for that price point
Yeah, thank god hollow end links are slowly becoming things of the past
biggest bet peeve is when you have a beautiful watch....then the manufacturer shoehorns in a horrible, ill fitting date window! best boxes I think are the piano black Tudor boxes. perfect size and lovely finish.
this is true, my good friend just bought an aquanaut. no hacking!!
DRIVES ME NUTS!
Moment I saw TGV in this title, I was pretty sure he will bring up lug width as his 1st annoying thing
My pet peeve is no one does a show on fantastic women's watches!!
I loved Omegas boxes...
I hate when the date window colour doesn't match dial colour! :(
My biggest pet peeve is nato straps and the way they bunch up at the top of the watch case. It looks ridiculous and yet everybody swears by them and I've never read about anybody complaining about that. When I first bought one I thought that maybe I somehow installed the band incorrectly because it looked so I guess unfinished. But then I see them on youtube all the time. I think the most annoying thing is when the hands do not line up with indices, date windows etc.
Ugh that does suck
Non-hand winding.
What do you guys mean by non hack movements (Federico peeve n. 2)? Dont even knot if I wrote it right...
A watch that's hacks means that the second hand stops moving when setting the time so you are able to set time to the second.
WPMRV Is that it? Thanks for the help. I actually thought that all watchs did that.
Would add the Omega Ploprof to the "Panerai exception" when complaining about size.
It really pisses me off that watches nowadays are oriented towards big sizes. A dress watch should not be too showy... a 40mm dress watch is ok for large wrists, but on a 6 inches wrist it looks inappropriate.
So each dress watch shoud be available in at least two differents sizes for different wrists (e.g. 36mm and 40mm).
Federico sock technique!
Trust me, it works!
Love that pilot watches are bigger.. Its about readability...
I just got an 15400 ap, and one of the things I hate about is that it is it doesn't really fit without a halflink (and a halflink looks kinda ugly) hate that
Yeah I fracking hate that as well!

That stupid crownlike thing on the left side of the Omega Seamaster .
Pins? I mean you remove the link and you're done. They don't seem to bother me. I've never had to put a link back. IDK.
The size of a watch to me should match its use and style, I agree some watches look ridiculous, no matter who is wearing it.
I recently got a Speedmaster Professional It is my first luxury watch. I am the second owner, but my Speedy is in mint condition. Like you discussed, it doesn't hack, which I think is a little disappointing.. Also, it comes in the special presentation box, which I love! Silly proprietary bracelets/lugs/cases that aren't compatible with your prized bracelet collection

(We'll give TGV a pass since he's half Brit-half Italian and all mixed up.)
good times
My biggest Pet peeve is the mispronunciation of German words:
Glashütte -> glaas hooota
Lange Und Söhne -> long eh oond souhne
Can really see TGV's lack of knowledge spend the whole time going 'really' 'yeah' 'mmm'
form follows function.
