You should mulch up some of that cedar and put it around the bottom of the raised beds. Cedar helps repel bugs. Raised beds attract ants. So beware of that too. Also use non-cedar wood in the bottom of the raised beds to keep from using so much dirt. It was decay over time and provide good dirt eventually.

In those beds u shld put cardboard on the bottom, then stick, and put about 8 inches of dirt. Over time it will break down and make the soil better, I have 4 and my garden grows great.
Crandall, those are not bees. They're called mahogany wasps, and they're extremely aggressive, especially when guarding their nests. Their stings are also very painful, and they can sting multiple times. A single sting is usually not dangerous, while 30 to 40 stings can be FATAL. Please be extremely careful, especially for your young children. ❤🙏🙏🙏

Make sure to put cardboard on the bottom of the planters so the grass and weeds will die or you’ll have that grass growing thick in them.Also add sticks and small tree limbs then add good soil.The sandy soil and the clay mixed with compost would be good.Also chicken manure will really make good soil
Laying wire down is good but also add cardboard. Infact the cardboard they came is a good start. It will eventually add to the soil. The boys are growing so much. Love chocolate and snot, a perfect explanation for a boy.
Def leave the trees and just clean them up to a height you can see through. You need as many trees as you can get for multiple reasons. You actually want trees surrounding your house at a distance just far enough that the mature tree won't hit the house but it's at least 8-10ft taller than your home. This creates a wind break and if they are thick n strong enough can seriously reduce structure damage if you get a direct tornado hit. The fact my neighborhood was tucked in by 27 acres of approx 40 yr old woods is what saved us from total annihilation when the F3 hit in 2017.
Those are hornets or wasps - they can really be wicked!!! Be safe. Put several layers of cardboard in the bottom of the raised planters, then chicken wire, dirt compost mix. Good luck.

Oh my goodness Marci, I just love your “ selective hearing”. Only a mother of toddlers can understand this. Yeah, they can be yelling and screaming in the background and life goes on and you just ignore it. Anybody without children has no idea how easy this comes to a mother. (And it drives them crazy not you.) But every other mother in the world fully understands Disciplining Maverick is a hardest thing. I’m sure you do from day-to-day, but in the long run, it will pay off. He is learning that behaving is something that earns privileges? Don’t behave you lose them. You ned to also put weed mat on the bottom to stop the grass coming up in the raised beds Crandall , then put branches so there is only about one foot of soil as that’s all you need at the most. This also helps with drainage and makes it easier if you decide to move them later less to dig out.

Put chicken wire at the bottom of the raised beds first, this will stop the moles & other animals coming up, & prevents them eating your produce. Then put the cardboard then sticks/logs (which will rot down) followed by green material & lastly your soil. Don’t forget compost to enrich your soil.
When you concrete isn’t water going to compact the ground.someome saud that will happen and the sides of containers will eventually give in unless braced.

Crandall just a suggestion. Make a moto cross course for a 3 year old, not a 13 year old. Since he does not like going up those big ramps, make the ramps "his" size not your size, increase them as he gets older and conquers them with ease.

That’s what we did also, you can use newspaper also, but I would do cardboard. It helps keep weeds out also
With his critter problem he should put some small, wire in the bottom before he puts the cardboard.
