Even the songs he deemed "not worthy" were masterpieces of their own. He could've easily had another album with all of these great unreleased (now released) tracks.
The issues with releasing an album between Thriller and Bad are: - Victory album / Victory Tour - Pepsi burns - We Are The World - Captain EO - prep for Moonwalker For Michael to dedicate the time he needed to make a worthy follow-up to Thriller (and the same gap in between his other solo albums too), meant we had to wait 4 years. Especially because his albums were never the only project he was working on at any given time. It bugs me with other artists who release album after album and maybe sell a couple of million copies at a time, have a handful of hits from it and a year later they go again. So it looks like they’ve sold tens of millions of copies (well, they have, but hopefully you get my point), when actually they’ve taken maybe 5 or 6 releases to match what Michael did in just one. I’d rather have the quality from Michael than churning extra stuff out, and thankfully projects like Ultimate Collection are there the plug the gaps. That was a random rant ... as you were🤣
The BAD album took roughly two years to make due to side projects. In 1985, Michael was quite busy. He kicked off the year with writing and recording the anthem "We Are The World". Soon after, Michael began working on the album with early versions of 'Smooth Criminal" titled "Al Capone" and a tune called "Hot Fever" which evolved to "The Way You Make Me Feel". Other songs he had written for the album were demoed, such as' "Loving You". Moreover, in mid-1985, principal photography on his Disney short film "Captain Eo", commenced, thus halting work on BAD. "Eo" was released the following year, and Michael resumed studio time for the album. In the fall of 1986, the video for the title track, "Bad", was shot. Recording continued throughout 1987 and reaching dissolution that summer with the release of "I Just Cant Stop Loving You", the lead single. The album was released in August. Therefore, a 1986 or 1986 Michael Jackson album would not have been doable.
Kevin, I’m glad you did this reaction! I just got back from a 2-month social media hiatus and some of my notifications got delayed. THANK GOD I clicked on this. Hot Street is an amazing song and like you said I also agree it should’ve been on another album. I wish it could’ve made it on Thriller 25 Carousel, Somewhere In The Dark and For All Time ended up being on this album and I wish Hot Street was one of them. Another song that could’ve made it on Thriller was She Got The Hots and I’m pretty sure it’s one of those 21 unreleased tracks. The only issue with there not being an album was because of Victory, they were touring, MJ burned his hair and spent a year recovering before starting to make Bad in 86’ releasing it in 87’ and touring until 89’ (Bad Tour) Bad was the more “aggressive” predecessor to Thriller and that’s probably one of the reasons why all the Thriller takes that didn’t make it never got considered. After Bad MJ stopped working with Quincy Jones. (Dangerous Album all the way to Invincible Album) not an ounce of Quincy Jones in sight. I really hope one day we get to see all the Thriller cuts on their own album, I really wish they could do that, their all worthy of being put together! those 9 songs we see on Thriller had some serious competition to be picked. If we ever get another Thriller Anniversary album I really hope Hot Street and a bunch of others make it as Bonus Tracks. I’m tired of going on TH-cam and looking for this gem, I want it on my playlist so bad.
Please React to Michael Jackson “MTV 10th Anniversary Performance 1991” you won’t be disappointed trust me this was also his first performance back after the release of Dangerous Album😇🙌🏽👑❤️💕🔥✨
If I had to choose a song off Thriller this song could of replaced, it’s Baby Be Mine. I love Baby Be Mine don’t get me wrong, but this song in a finished product I think would of been better
You tripping The Girl Is Mine could’ve definitely been replaced by “Hot Street” also yes if you want to check out any of MJ’s unreleased demos/tracks I recommend always going to Sevn Nelson TH-cam Channel he also have unreleased demos/tracks from The Jacksons & The Jackson 5 I recommend 3 Songs you should check out Michael Jackson “Blue Gangsta” Original Demo,Michael Jackson “Free” & The Jacksons “Buttercup” these are all unreleased tracks and they’re all on Sevn Nelson TH-cam Channel please go to that specific channel or else you’ll pick the wrong one brotha okay😇🙌🏽👑❤️🔥💫💯
I don’t think my life would be the same without Michael’s bridge on TGIM! Back in the day I used to rewind that part over and over for genuinely days at a time. Whenever I listen to it now, I still can’t get past it without a few rewinds🥰
No there’s a certain order that an album needs to go in, wanna be startin somethin and baby be mine are 2 very exciting and upbeat songs that are right next to each other, taking out the girl is mine would add to much action, maybe it could have been added in between lady in my life and PYT or in between human nature and PYT, but it still wouldn’t make sense, it’s still a good song but I see why they took it off becuase it just wouldn’t fit anywhere imo

Facts!
To me, Hot Street would've been amazing as a part of soundtrack for an 80's movie. The vibe was just there

Very in depth analysis as a MJ fan. I ❤ it!

Both are about on the same level. Hot Street would not have hurt the Thriller album, and neither would Hot Street
Bad was in 1987
Correct
8.5 though? IS U NUTS BRUH!😲😲 Hot Street is 🔥 🔥. What's wrong with your ears? I wish this was on Thriller or an additional album. I just can't! 🤨😏

I agree with your assessment of "Hot Street". Good song, but compared to the other songs selected for "Thriller", "Hot Street" is weaker.
