  • In this episode we visit Champion Creek in the Bohemia Mining district. Home of one of Oregon's biggest gold rushes in the mid-late 1800's. The entire creek is claimed except for this small public area. This is our first time prospecting on this creek. How did we do?
    Gold prospecting in the pacific northwest, specifically Oregon, Washington and northern California. We are lifetime members of Republic Mining (RMPA - RepublicMining.com) Our current fleet of gear includes a Keene A52s sluice box, Gold Cube, Blue Bowl, Garret and XP pans, Equinox 800, and a random assortment of generic tools. Hope you enjoy our adventures as we walk the hills and streams looking for deposits of gold and other rare minerals.

    Great video. Very glad you posted the location also. Most prospectors just say southern Oregon. I live in Salem and have just started prospecting. So it's good to here of another good place to go.... That's if I can pan there without joining the club? I would join one but I have 3 kids and live paycheck to paycheck

      Look for mineral withdrawn areas. Signs are posted!

    Yikes, spoon feeding an A52? bucket load that bad boy, it will handle it all day long.

      Those buckets get heavy.. lol but you’re right. Lots of black sand here, so it does take bit to exchange. Appreciate the feedback though!

    Awesome bro, beautiful spot and some solid colour for 3 buckets of surface gold in the end. Keep up the great content!

      Thanks! It’s a fun spot. Looking for a bit more color per pan. This is wasn’t bad at all, I just think this creek has more potential in it. It’s claimed top to bottom except this public spot. Need to spend a bit more time digging around.

      Thanks Zach! Your support is appreciated! Have fun out there. We are excited to check out quartzville too. We usually head south, but we’re gonna have to check out baker at some point.

    I'd bet most of it came out of the moss.

    hay there im zack im located in the central Oregon area kind of looking to become a prospector and im looking for people in the same area as me who might be able and willing to help me out and show me a few things and just simply share some knowledge with me about the trade.

      RMPA have a few claims near prineville and crater lake. So there is some gold out that’s way. Most gold is found in northeastern Oregon or southwest Oregon. Not to say it can’t be found other places. A good place to look is thediggings.com but it’s not up to date. I use it as a reference then look at the BLM mlrs map system. That will help you identify where gold is located, and where the ground is claimed. Meaning, where you can and can’t go. You can find small gold along the Oregon beaches. Look for black sand and you’ll find a micro piece or two. If your after other minerals, you’ll find fire opal and thunder eggs in central oregon. Lots of other things to hunt for than gold. But we spend most of our time with gold. If you want to meet other folks, consider joining a mining club. RMPA, GPAA, NWMPC, and lots of others in Oregon. Winter is a slow season.. the rivers and creeks are flooded, frozen, or just too cold. You can also buy some paydirt and a pan and learn to pan for gold at home. Hope that helps!

      This area is really nice. We’ve been back a few times but the real gold is in southern Oregon. A lot more to come! Thanks for the support!

    What about panning creeks below tailings piles? Good plan?

    • @510prospecting
      @510prospecting  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If we could find the tailings, I think it’s a great plan! Thanks for watching.

    • @MrLeadghost

      A few mine portals are right along the creek road up a little farther then your spot ( assuming the bridge is the one I'm thinking it is ). I think the tailings went directly into the creek. I work the silver star area in sw washington mostly but have come down your way a few times.

  • @americanadventureoutdoors4213
    @americanadventureoutdoors4213 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice , love it up there . Next time your there go just past the bridge and try we’re the creek takes a turn . Also just the above the bridge right side looking down stream just past we’re you are at , look for some moss at stream level 👍🏻

    • @510prospecting
      @510prospecting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the tip. We’re weren’t sure where the withdrawn area ends. So we stayed close to the camp spot. We’ll take a look down there!

      @@510prospecting The first sign on tree coming in right before the camping spot on road to a little ways past the last camping spot , there should be another sign at the end of the withdrawn area on the road . Not very big but cool public spot .
