    This video helps to clear things up (a little!)

    Back in 2006 I did my 2 upper front teeth implant with Dr. Mohamed Ali in San Francisco California, He was the first doctor to use a technique he named bone splitting without using any bone graft at all, He basically removed my broken front teeth, made a split in my upper jaw bone across the two holes that were left by the extraction using a hammer and a chisel, yes you heard that right. He inserted the implants in the crack he made and stitched the gum back together, few months later after everything healed and the bone closed up I went back and he removed the temporary crowns and installed the permanent ones, He used my case in a dental conference presenting his technique to other professionals, Not sure if he was the only one used that technique worldwide or just here in the US.

    I just had my surgery done, the “all on 4”. 4 on the upper arch and 4 on the lower arch. This was done in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA @/ the IU Methodist Hospital. It was a 4 hour surgery, 6 weeks prior they extracted the rest of my teeth (18). The implant surgery Beas supposed to be an outpatient but they apparently couldn’t get my bleeding to stop so they admitted me. No I am not on blood thinners. I’m 65 I take 3 different kinds of anticonvulsants. Would that cause my extra bleeding. I had about 150 stitches and at 4 weeks they still have not all dissolved. They said my bones were too soft to wear the temporary teeth, and I would have to wait at least 3 months to see if the implants are growing into my jawbone. Does this all seem normal? You do a great job explaining things in layman’s terms. You have a Big Heart. Thank you. Mrs. Debbie Feighner, Fort Wayne, Indiana.

    A few years ago I had a periodontist attempt to do an all on 4 but during the procedure, he broke 2 titanium implants off in my jaw, he was unprepared and did not have an extraction tool so he had to drill them out and break them into pieces with a prybar and then perform a bone graft. The remaining 2 implants that he was successful in placing were improperly placed too far toward the back of the jawbone and 1 of them became loose and caused an infection resulting in the remaining 2 implants being removed by a maxillofacial oral surgeon. I am now back to square one and have a considerable amount of lower bone loss. Have you worked with a Japanese-developed synthetic calcium bone regeneration compound?

    What can cause the dental implant to fail. I’m asking because my daughter was born without out one of theeth and has braces. We have to make the decision to open up a space for the missing tooth or close it and risk her having an underbite.

    • @drgurssehmi
      @drgurssehmi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The most common reasons are either overloading with the bite (I doubt this would be an issue, I assume she is missing the lateral incisor teeth, these don't take much load). The other reason is not keeping it clean enough, but if she is accepted for braces, then cleaning should not be a problem.
      Rarely I have seen implants fail for no reason that I can explain, but as I say, this is rare.
      Don't get to obsessed with cleaning- this can cause recession around the implant too!

    Honestly,all this information is awesome, however, you mention that the tipe of implants is a personal choice,you also mentioned that most people go for the cheaper alternative, and honestly, most people can not afford even the cheapest implants, how can they have a choice? • @drgurssehmi
      @drgurssehmi  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I understand what you mean, it's very difficult for a lot of people. The cost of implant treatment is mainly the cost running a surgery, staffing costs, insurance etc, the cost of the implant is just a little proportion of the cost to the patient. So going for a premium implant isn't actually a lot more than a basic implant, that's why I recommend just going for the best when you can

    For a (congenital) missing lateral incisor with about 8-10mm of gap will it be safe to do ceramic implant vs titanium, what type of implant would you recommend? I need to do a bone graft from lower jaw for this.. do i have any other options? Just worried as my gumline for this missing tooth is pretty low ( braces was done to increase the gap to accommodate implant). Or, as the gap is a few mm should I look into closing gap back through braces vs. putting in an implant? I also have other metal fillings and a crowned tooth, so worried about metal implants, but not a lot of surgeons are ready to do non metallic. Is there a reason for this? Should I wait for any new technology break-through that you know of? I'm currently based in the u.s.a

    Hi Dr, i am planning to have full upper and lower implant and the implant i am choosing from are Neobiotech MDI (MINI DENTAL. IMPLANTS), Osstem Implant system & BioHorizon Implant.
    What do you think about these choices?
    Thank you for your advice.

    • @drgurssehmi
      @drgurssehmi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly, the implants so not matter as much as the skill of the surgeon. Most Implants will work, and for full arch stuff, some designs are better than others. The implant dentist should be able to advise you more on this

      I've heard that peope go to Turkey to do their teeth. Honestly I've taken look on that and noticed that mostly dentists put DIO IMPLANTS in Turkey. Could you explain to a bit more of it. Why are they cheaper there than in other countrys.? Are the DIO IMPLANTS worth it or not?

    • @romankniter1378
      @romankniter1378 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. DIO implants are Korean, and have a lower cost overall (3rd tier as Dr S mentioned). 2. Osstem, while also a Korean company has a much better reputation and overall acceptable for most applications. 3. Biohorizon is an American company, on par with Osstem. If you're in the US, it's easier to get parts and service. I personally like Osstem more (while I use neither of these). As Dr S said, it's more important on the Who does the work, then what brand they're using.

      @@romankniter1378 hi, thanks for your comment and info on implants. What you think about zimmer implant? they’re 100% made here in the USA. the dentists the I had my consultation with said that’s the kinda implants they use.
      I have a whole mouth restoration coming up soon. I’m still doing a bit of research, I decided to go to Costa Rica to get dental work done, since its a fraction of the price I got quoted here in the USA. they also have a big dentals tourism there. and some great clinics, with doctors who study here in the USA.

      @@nikkidell4180 Zimmer used to be on top of the "implant game" few decades ago. As of right now, I'd chose Astra, Straumann or Nobel Active over Zimmer. (in that order). In the end either of these 3 companies makes great implants and in the hands of an experienced and knowledgeable dentist you'll get excellent results. Zimmer has good surface treatment, but their inner connection isn't on par with these 3. Also, by now most of the implants (Astra, Friadent, Ankyloss a.o.) have been bought out and belong to a huge conglomerate that at least in name is an. American company. These are all companies that are represented all over the world and you can get parts pretty much wherever you may live. Too much info for this chat and I don't want to distract from an excellent video that Dr S has posted.

      Marlow, England. It's a rather expensive place to live. The average house costs £974,000 or $1.3 million even though it's nowhere near a beach or a ski resort.

    Hello Dr.shemi /guru. My name is Michael I was wondering if you would be interested in doing a implant smile make over on me amd possibly use out for your videos. I can be the one whos life you can change . you always sound proffesional and knoledgable about what you do. Your videos are awesome and give good choices for people.. But on the real note if you ever decide to do something like that I would really do it amd be the blessed one. Ive been try to get the 'all on 4 ' for about 6 yrs so I can smile and chew again. But its just so hard to be able to come up with that amount of money when you have a family and live pay check to pay check. I even was going to try and aave to get it done in Mexico but something always comes up. I guess that's life.. Ok well thanks for the videos. Mike. A

      Hi Mike, of you were in the UK, I may have been able to consider something like this for an online course I am putting together, but as you mentioned Mexico, I just you are in the US. This stuff is expensive, and I know it's extremely difficult for most people to afford it. We are always trying to reduce the cost to patients, but without comprising the quality of the treatment.
