  • #TEDxMedUniGraz #healthcare #future #digitalization - Since Mary Shelley invented the defibrillator in 1816, thought experiments have been an important driver of technological advancement in medicine. Could it be possible to avoid future pandemics with antivirus software? Can you imagine a more dangerous place in the western world than a hospital? When will we develop medicine with algorithms? Christoph Holz invites his audience to search for solutions in healthcare with humorous thought experiments in the field of tension between digitalization and ethics. Christoph Holz explains the complex digital world in an incomparable and humorous way. His thought experiments show the larger context and the personal effects on each individual. The computer and rocket scientist knows what he is talking about. He is a startup founder, Silicon Valley entrepreneur, angel investor and a real cyborg. Like no other, he translates digital knowledge into logical future scenarios and surprising consequences. His activities as a speaker, podcaster and university lecturer have taken Holz from CeBit and TEDx to Google in California. Christoph Holz knows how to inspire with wit, impressive images and extraordinary examples. He combines technology, society and business into a meaningful whole. His future perspectives take away people's fear of change. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Yes, this is the time to be doing these 'thought experiments' and putting no limit on what we can imagine because one day it will be achievable. Truly exciting times.

This is such an important conversation to be having now, a real conversation where we ask big difficult questions, that simply right now aren't answered fully. I like forward to you Christoph being one of the people asking...

It’s much more than just healthcare, isn’t it? Despite these thoughts are amazing for myself the most important one is the danger of technology developing faster than our moral. Thanks Mr. Holz - Recently, I became a curious listener to your podcast making my days even more worthwhile !

Thought experiments like these challenge our assumptions and provoke critical thinking about the realities of technological advancements - both positive and negative.

Medical breakthrough that enhance an individuals quality of life sounds like a good thing. Nothing is really ever a certainty though I do think I'd give it a go if that meant I could hear at an old age.

There's something about the idea of human implanted microchips that really appeals to me. It's this ease of access of what's important to me in a now very complicated world.

  • @natalemodesto

These are really cool scenarios to think about! I really hope it does get to a point where an ambulance can just rock up to wherever the medical emergency is and is equipped with something that can assess and provide treatment right then and there. Would be so valuable in terms of those situations where time is crucial.

I really love Christophs idealism here. Sadly I'm a lot more realistic and highly doubt medicine will evolve to a place like this. At least not in the US, where everything is an industry, designed to make money.

Okay the self driving car thing freaks me out though. Unless there was some way to swap over ALL the cars at the same time there's still going to be people just cruising around, completely able to make mistakes and there you were UNABLE to react because AI is driving your car!!
