Of course, special-effects folks of that era didn’t anticipate that fans would be viewing the episode in 2020 on our wireless handheld devices and pausing the video to look for these details like the obsessive trekkie I still am.
I like the way Sulu and Chekov both rushed Spock at once and Chekov gets pushed backwards to the helm and doesn't even collapse and Sulu ends up in the Captain's chair, spinning around for a bit and then Chekov leans out of the Captain's line of fire when he stuns Spock. Chekov's boots still have a highly polished shine, yet Kirk's are starting to look a bit dull after having had them on all day. Uhura doesn't even get involved in that dust up. She just stands there all during the fight scene. She must have seen how Sulu and Chekov got shoved back and decided "no, not going to get involved in that mess."

No words he could have spoken could have expressed utter derangement better than than that hiss. Vulcans are probably evolved from something very like a cat. It probably took centuries of mental discipline before they could stop themselves from hissing and purring.

"Don't move. No one is to move." When Kirk gave an order, everyone heard and obeyed. Of course, we knew Spock could kick all their asses toot sweet. Took a Phaser set to stun to bring him down. Such a great show.
Y'know what? I really like that stun-blast effect. It looks a lot more real and visceral than the blobs of light, whizzing around slow enough for the eye to see, that usually get used.
The music was absolutely perfect for this scene. The horn blasts are perfectly timed to the action. And of course Sulu and Chekov are going to charge Spock at the same time. How brilliant was that? No other show on television has made such prolific use of the double-fisted hammer blow. One thing is for certain: when I want some hard-hitting evil twin action, I turn on Star Trek.

Or because he's had enough of the fact they always have the same problem with Spock: they simply can't match his Vulcan-strength and have to phaser him?
The impact site of the phaser stun bolt doesn't line up with where Kirk is aiming. He's aiming for the chest, but the impact nimbus emanates from Spock's abdomen.
Mr. Chekov addresses the Ambassador as "Mr Spock", but Mr. Spock/The Ambassador does not correct him. When I used to watch this as a little boy I always thought that it was sad when Captain Kirk interrupted Mr Spock/The Ambassador and told him that it was time to dissolve the link, then Mr. Spock/The Ambassador sadly responds, "so soon?" It reminded me of a child enjoying himself at an amusement park, and then the parent tells him that it's time to go home and the child sadly responds, "so soon?"
As much as I love some Kirk/Spock slash - - this is a far cry for that. lol. An open handed gesture such as this one has been noticed across centuries and cultures as a "safe" gesture to show the person means no harm or malice (showing they have no weapons in the hands, etc.)
