- Hi my name is Kathleen Laurel Sage and I am a textiles artist, tutor and designer with 20 years experience.
Video description
This weeks video is focusing on a collection of techniques I have been working with over the last 20 years. I will talk you through making one of my iconic flower panels that many of you will have seen at shows like The Festival of Quilts 2018 and many other show across the years. We will be looking at my layering technique, free machine embroidery, reverse applique and finally using the soldering iron to give your work a lacy feel.

I just found your tutorials, techniques, and ideas. I am so pleased and impressed. My only regret is that I didn't find you sooner!
You are just amazing. I’m an art teacher, retired, but love how you have developed an art form -- WITH HOLES IN IT! Very nice. I joke a bit. Just beautiful.
Oh! My Lord, the patience needed to make this. It is absolutely amazing!
What a fantastic tutorial! Just the right balance of explicit instruction and getting us to work it out ourselves and keep the video to a watchable length. Thankyou so much for sharing your expertise. I'm really enjoying your ideas and getting very inspired!
Thanks Emily
Im enjoying making the tutorials. Easc one gets a little better as i relax into it. and of course my daughter Julia is a wiz at filming them and editing . I have so many ideas so keep watching x
I didn’t think this was my thing (aesthetic) but I love to learn. By the end of the video my brain was overloaded with ideas. Thank you for sharing your technique!
I just love, love, love Kathleen Laurel Sage’s ideas. I bought a dragon as my first experiment and that was it. I was hooked.
I have only recently discovered you (suscribed). I first saw Meredith Woolnough and I had never heard of water soluble fabric before. I actually looked at you for the Dorset buttons and was hooked. I do a variety of crafts and I learn something useful from each of them. Off to look at more. I come from Ashton-under-Lyne in lancashire but live in Melbourne Australia.
Wow, such beautiful original designs.
Thanks for the video!
Very lovely work! Thanks for sharing your techniques. I have worked with silk organza-wonderful, sheer, beautiful. In my work I color the pieces myself with a liquid acrylic paint thinned way down to protect the translucence. I did a rather abstract garden of flowers, green grass, etc. very fun to work with. After basting down the pieces, I hand-stitched the edges of the pieces on top to hold the work together. Lots of work! But I loved it. I laid this on top of my quilt and hand quilted it. It was a very long process and more difficult than it sounds. So glad to hear about a much easier way to go.
My goodness, you are truly a talent! These are absolutely beautiful. I have a cutwork tablecloth my mom made, which this technique reminds me of. What a great idea, I think I blew a valve in my brain watching this because now, I am all kinds of excited to use this in different ways, with organza, lace, wonderful shiny scraps of shiny fabric. How excellent, and how fun! Thank you so much for your genius.
Beautiful! Honey, that's a wonderful talent and art! Thanks for sharing ☺️!
Outstanding instructions and an amazing process. Once the world returns to normal, I look forward to giving this a whirl - thanks so much!
Thank you for demonstrating this awesome technique
Lovely tutorial, Kathleen. I've just found the Crazy Wool technique too, which is very similar, so I have plenty of the soluble to play with. The panels you showed at the end look fabulous - the transparency is very much like watercolour paintings.
Thanks you glad you enjoyed it, have fun.
I love this ! Very use full video - Thank you so much
This is gorgeous. Can't wait to try it
Love to see another creative Brit! Thank you, great video for enabling creative thoughts.
Considering now, how to incorporate such techniques into a base for one of my hand crafted flower bouquets... 🤔
Wow, this is amazing! Going to put at the top of my list of new things to try.
How wonderful...
Will definitely order a few after Christmas.
In fact I am going straight to look at your shop.
Thank you so much for the inspiration.
How lovely! I wish I had found your channel before I tossed all my yards of organza.
Fabulous technique and video. Thanks for sharing.
New Sunnis here... Beautiful work!
These are amazing. I remember seeing you and loving your work at the Fashion and Embroidery Show years ago when it was held at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate. I have seen you at shows at the NEC too.

Visited Textile event at Swavesey and met some ladies in their third year of your course. Their artwork was stunning. I was fortunate enough to be given taken through one of their art journals, so inspirational. Hope you are feeling better.

Something unique for me... hard work pays
Lovely! Really amazing ! Congrats!
Beautiful !!! 😍😍😍
This is an amazing technique, thank you so much!!!
I bought one of your kits and had such a great time making it! Thank you so much for sharing this. I've made my own pieces based on my own designs and I've been looking for a thicker water-soluble stabilizer like the one you included in your kit, but I have been having a hard time finding something similar that is clear. Any suggestions?
Does the fabric need to be prewashed? The only organza I could get are those little bags for favors and such at weddings. I'm sure hoping that works. I also have some glitzy tulle-like fabric that I was going to try for the top & bottom pieces. What's your opinion of that?
Lovely art! Thank you for sharing your video
Beautiful
beautifull thanks ,very interesting.
What a fabulous technique!
Thank you for sharing this idea,so cool!
Cannot find your organza kits anywhere please link? Or tell me where to find them love the hummingbird one and the butterfly as well as the clematis!!!!

Супер! Фантастика! It's amazing! Thank you!
Wow- how beautiful- greetings from NYC!! 😁💗🌷
Couldn’t we use spray baste to secure it together for the free motion part?
pena que não ta em português, mas adorei a técnica, não sei se faria,da trabalho parabéns lindo
Great tutorial thanks!
Such beautiful work...do you have a book published? I would buy it immediately 😍❤️👍
So beautiful!
This is extremely neat. When you say, water soluble, are you talking about “stabilizer?”
Yes i do but it needs to be a firm type like solvy ultra

Great tutorial. Do u use natural or synthetic organza?
Jennie, i use synthetic . Natural wont work with a soldering iron .
fascinating techniques, beautifully created.
Impressive
wonderful
Amazing
This was great but I couldn't find anywhere to order a kit.
Kits are available from Kathleenlaurelsage.co.uk the link was in the info beneath the tutorial. Check out all kits on my web site.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I love this technique but being in Australia can't afford the coast and postage to buy a kit (unfortunately). Thank you again.
No Problem. you should be able to source the fabrics in your country and then you can have a play. Its so much fun to do.
Creo que no entendí como le quitamos el plástico del diseño no lo que cortamos sino el que queda en la flor
יפה מאוד
Is this polyester organza or silk organza?
You can only use polyester organza otherwise the soldering iron will not cut through the layers.
nice workkk
❤ ❤ ❤
Ой какая красота😍👍
What's that water soluble thing is? How can I find it
What kind of instrument you're using to burn/cut fabric away?
Gitana Morena , a soldering iron
@@mauidon Thank you 😊
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Where do I go to order a kit? Do you ship to Canada?
Muy bonito pero sin traducción bien complicado
Are these quilts meant to be only decorative? Doesn't seem practical for everyday use.
Sorry It did eventually go away.

Music is horrible -- couldn't get through it, even though it looks great!
Love it. Is the overlay piece another organza? What colors are most effective for the overlay?
Could of gotten rid of the music. You explained things really well but music was distracting and annoying.
Beautiful work. Thanks for the tutorial.
