Best part about your videos: you talk a lot. You explain every little thing that’s happening. I can easily follow what gear you’re on. What the conditions are. Now I’m just debating between the 4 and 5M Parawing.
aww thanks bud! I really appreciate it! I'd def recommend the 4m. you may need more wind but everything else should be better with it. take advantage of the sale! 25% off right now! and LMK what you get and what you think. I wish you an awesome weekend!!
Was insane to see Johnny Heineken try the parawing out for the first time at the Hatchery a few weeks ago. He was just ripping upwind and doing flawless tacks. He seemed pretty stoked on it so the potential is real. But then he is Johnny Heineken. And it was a super windy day.
lol yes JH is legend, and I'm nowhere near that level, and prolly never will be. but I love the fact he made it look good. I want to work on it. I want get better at it so it actually looks good! thanks bud, I wish you an awesome rest of your weekend!
Hi from the UK. Because of an old shoulder injury, paddle up DW seems out of reach for me. The parawing has just opened that door again. Really enjoying this content, really informative. 👍
awesome, thanks for the comment bud! just be warned, I have kinda tweaked my shoulder from various winging things, and I see this as having potential to be dangerous, since it's very one-arm intensive. you can use a harness and whatnot but it can def pull away and up. I'm constantly thinking about that stuff when I'm out there. but I wish you the best of luck... LMK how that goes!
So is it actually fun in flatwater? Would you prefer it to a wing? Is back-and-forthing it an end in itself or is this thing a means to an end (packed down riding)? Thanks for documenting all of this, you're the only one out there it seems giving honest feedback and in real-world conditions.
is it fun? it's fun trying new things. it's fun challenging myself. it's fun conquering and mastering things. but I'm so much better at winging, that tends to be more fun. I rode a wing yesterday and it was joyous compared to the last 4 sessions I've had on the parawing. but I'm still into exploring the pw. right now I'm trying to get comfortable enough on flatwater to be ready to do a pack down in the right situations. so... I'm having fun. I'm gonna continue to try it and hopefully things will start clicking and I'll get to the point where I can make it look good. stay tuned. I wish you an awesome rest of your weekend!
I keep watching parawing videos and wondering when the first shoulder rotator cuff injury is going to happen - it just looks so open to this type of issue with the arm being raised so high and under power.
yeah I totally agree! I stopped trying 360s cause I kept jacking my shoulder, so this has totally been on the front of my mind. the harness helps a little. and I think in general I nee to fly it lower. but the potential is great for shoulder injury. fingers crossed. I wish you an awesome weekend bud!
The concept was conceived to ride DW runs with strong winds. You're morphing into light winds and tacking upwind, making it a lot more difficult than it should be. Give you credit for leading the pack and taking the beatings for the rest of us to learn. At this point I don't see the appeal of using the parawing on flat water with light winds. Other than the challenge of making it work. Fun watching you try.
haha it's fun trying new things! I do agree with you, but if it was just for strong winds, why'd he make a 5.1m and a 6.2m? my goal is to get comfortable with it on flatwater so I can be a little more consistent with it out in the gnar. it seems finnicky, it des it's own thing sometimes and leaves me scratching my head. but also seems tamable. and I wanna try to tame it. I 100% think if you have high winds and can use the 2.9m you are gonna have a totally different experience. but I'm trailblazing with the 5.1m in real world conditions. it's not that bad. but trust me, I totally still prefer winging at this point :P thanks as always bud, I wish you an awesome day!
@@OCEANBOUND1 the larger 5 and 6m sizes make no sense to me. Maybe for guys riding ocean waves with light wind. When this evolves to guys riding large breaking waves, we're going to see some nasty kitemares
So there’s some wingers on Maui that now prefer the parawing. At one point, kiters said the wing was stupid. And this is when kites dominated the beach. Now it’s kinda rare to see kites and wings are everywhere. Parawing is the future. I just think they need a little more work. Ideally they’d have ram air to hold shape like some Paragliders. At least that’s my guess.
hahah thanks bud! I know it's gonna cross over to the wing. now that I broke the seal, I can see me using it this winter. sigh. it was bound to happen at some point. 3.5 years of stubbornness... I should get a prize for holding out this long. lol, I wish you an awesome rest of your day!
One of the other issues when you gybe, is you are suddenly heading towards the parawing at a speed that is probably similar to the wind speed. The parawing drifts well cause it is so light, but not that well. I think being able to turn quickly is going to be pretty essential.
yeah I totally agree. I took it out in some super gusty offshore winds, and when doing a jibe the wind made it dance around a weird way and in an instant my head was in the middle of all the lines. it can happen so fast! the only annoying thing is with the 5.1m I'm usually on a big foil that doesn't turn so fast, but this is making me push those turns harder than I usually do so it's helping my riding all over the place. thanks bud, I wish you an awesome week!
I liked your analogy of Joy Stick handle for control. I can picture it in my mind. What do you think the average wind speed was? Hard to gauge in the offshore conditions. Thanks for posting your progression, it should make mine 'easier'!
sup bud! avg was 17mph, building closer to 20mph average at the end. as with winging, more wind makes learning easier. but it gets overpowered quick, especially if you are still figuring it all out. stoked to hear yr getting into it! I hope something I said helps you on your progression! good luck, keep me in the loop, and I wish you an awesome day!!
Your videos inspire me to get into the winging. I have an efoil and live out by Worcester. The lake is not good for winging. I keep taking my Armstrong kit to the north shore and Nahant, but the conditions haven’t panned out. Any attempt ends in a walk of shame. I hesitate to go out unless the conditions are right. I am heading to cape Hatteras this week for a 3 day camp. Hopefully that will at least get me enough to stay upwind. Can you suggest the best place to learn when I get back? Thanks for all your great content!
Sup Jeff! We’d love to have you come wing with us at Pleasure Bay in Boston. Flatwater, deep, great for learning and honing the skills. Best directions are SW through E. We set up off the SW corner parking lot. If it’s windy there’s usually people winging. That’s the spot I’d recommended the most. Good luck in OBX! I’m jealous!! Although today was a delicious wave day at Nahant. Email me, I can invite you to our GroupMe group.
Awesome mate you defo need to practice the pack away on land you will learn faster with less consequences. I love that you just go full throttle at it I'm the same haha. It sounds like re learning to fly kites is key it must be a little tricky with just 1 handel as you say the break lines for stearing by twisting . Great info I need to make one if I ever get the time keep ripping and good winds .
thanks bud!! the pack away will be practiced on land. I think the 2.9m will be more accessible to that that the 5.1m, I just need more wind! it's like a kite, but different. I have 3 friends getting into it with me, and only two of us have kited for a significant time. so we seem to have old habits we are breaking through, but also seem to have a little better understanding of the way it behaves. it's easy and it's hard at the same time, lol. we have some waves today, and the wind looks like it will pick up... I'm looking forward to a proper regular wing sesh. it'll be good to rip on a wing after the last 4 full-parawing sessions. I hope all is well with you all on the other side of the pond. I wish you an awesome rest of your weekend Chris!
thanks! and no, I don't use a baseplate shim when I wing or parawing, but I do when I paddle on the flay. prolly not a bad idea to try it though, so if I throw it in and I think it makes a difference, I'll let you know! I wish you an awesome weekend!
Sup bud! Started 15-17, grew to 17-20 with some gusts that were higher. So I’m thinking 20 is about when I can do that 1180 with my ML board and the 5.1m
I agree, it's in its infancy. I guess I'm part of the development? I don't think it's only for dw, but TBD on how people use it in a few months to a year. I don't think it's going away. stoked to watch it evolve.
Sup bud! I def had power. It was maybe blowing 17-20, some higher gusts. I had enough power to go down a foil size, and that was a first. But yeah, these things like a decent amount of power. I wish we had more wind!

Fair concern. I worry about that when trying to paddle up too though. Definitely had a few Advil evenings after trying to do flat water paddle ups.

Harness 🎖 Congrats .. and now with a wing .. your bones would like it ... 🏆 Nice thanks for the vid.

woot woot will do!

This would be awesome for down winders near me, my start point is about 2 miles out from launch. Add it to the list!
sweet! I really hope for conditions to try that soon. I'll let y'all know how it is when I get there. thanks bud, I wish you an awesome weekend!

It’s def not yet!

Yes, fantastic, I am still kitefoiling with BRM Cloud 12🎉🎉amazing
This concept needs a lot more development , at this stage not really convincing

The bar needs to be like a kite bar. It would work so much better.
yeah that'd be cool. only you'd have no trimming/power/depower. so I get that they made it like this. it's def a challenge to break the kiting habits!
looks like you are underpowered... needs a big wind day
