dude it still blows my mind how good these graphics are for a 2001 baseball game even still... I am still satisfied to play this game every now and then. this game was way ahead of its time by a long shot (no pun inteded) and surprisingly very underated!!!
So did anyone ever play a full season and have success at it? The automatic fielding could work to your advantage but it could also be a major disadvantage.
Being a big fan of the World Series baseball games for the Saturn, i thought this game would be amazing. But having fielding being automated completely ruined the game and the franchise. I don't know who thought that works be a good idea
This was the one sports sega sports game that got worse when visual concepts took over. They need to revert back to this older model game. This would've been beautiful on the xbox 360.
The hitting in this game should be adopted in today’s games. Also I think the graphics and player movements are as good as today’s stuff! They honestly had a great game here.
If I remember correctly, this is the game where you had to hold the trigger under the controller before the pitch came, and you would let go of the trigger to swing. The faster you let go of the trigger, the harder the swing. To this day, I haven't found another system that felt more natural at swinging a bat. It was awesome. You'd let the trigger go a little bit for a warm-up swing and then if you liked the pitch....boom. I wish they still used this system in today's sports games. You could use it to wind up for a slap shot. Throw a football. Shoot a basketball...etc. At least make it an option maybe? Meh.
Did anybody ever complete a full season with this game. I tried a few times but got frustrated because of the automated fielding and the numerous hits by the opposition that could have been outs.
Its because the game is basically a port of the world series baseball game found in Arcades. The game used a little baseball bat to control the game on the arcade machine. So feilding wasn't something that could be done.
It was disappointing. The automatic fielding was due to the Dreamcasts limitations so prerendered fielding animations were used. If you could have controlled the fielders the game would have been a top 5 for the DC definitely
I had high expectations because NFL 2K and NBA 2K were both spectacular. World Series Baseball '98 for Sega Saturn was also spectacular. Obviously the biggest complaint is how could they release a game with no manual fielding? Boggles the mind. Limited options and features. Weak sound. the announcing is recycled from World Series Baseball '98, which was over 3 years old at the time. The only pluses I'll give it is the hitting system was interesting, but literally every other aspect of this game is such a slog that it doesn't matter.

When it comes to the Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, etc. MVP Baseball with Manny on the cover was the only good baseball game I've played. High Heat with Vlad on it for PC was amazing too.

The problem was they wouldn't let you field. I think they figured you could just get the sequel since there was no other sports game.

For this game we used Roxio Game Capture HD. Run the Dreamcast through a converter from AV to HDMI, and then plug that into the Roxio.
