- Sorry about the delay on this one! For some reason, this video WOULD NOT TAKE at all yesterday, until late in the evening! Anyhow, this is part 1 of Game show hosts week from 8/28/08.Thanks for being patient!
Does me good to see all these good friends on a show together. Truly, game show hosts were like a fraternity-- they all knew each other. I get so jealous of them being so spontaneous, cheery, bright, witty and funny. Never a dull moment!
Very sad news to report. Jim Perry passed away yesterday at the age of 82. Jim Perry hosted two of the most successful game shows ever. "Card Sharks" from 1978-1981 and "Sale of the Century" from 1983-1989; both aired on NBC. Mr Perry was game show legend and will be truly missed. R.I.P. Mr. Perry
Charles allen jr over a year now. time flies and it needs to slow down every once in awhile. not too much to slow down though.
Great game show moments we'll never see again. :( Love these game show specials.
Wink sooo funny witty and polite. Glad he played for CP Center in his hometown. Loved that he called Jim Mr. Perry. Such respect!!!
This was the golden age of game shows every network had at least one! Miss those daytime ones!
Being a game show fanatic, I would've loved to be in the audience for this one. To share the room with five legendary game show hosts would've been an awesome thing.
I love the opening of this special edition of card sharks
Wow this is the first time I seen bill Cullen walk since they usually have him sitting down because he has walking difficulty from polio
We lost a legendary game show icon on November 8, 2020-Alex Trebek, the #JeopardyKing-passed away at the age of 80 after over a year of battling pancreatic cancer. He was one of the contestants who competed on #GameShowHostsWeek on this game show.
Please pray for his family.
R.I.P. Alex Trebek (1940-2020)
#PancreaticCancerSUCKS!!!!!!
I would've liked to see them do something like this on the CBS version for a week. If I was going to do that, the hosts I would have would be Peter Tomarken, Bert Convey, Monty Hall (because none of them were on the show before) and you guessed it, Jim Perry.
You forgot to include Bob Barker!
I like the way JP yanks the mic out of his "model's" hand.
It was fun to see Alex Trebek here considering that the opening of "Card Sharks" and the theme music were lifted from his short-lived "Double Dare." And Bill Cullen's "FREEZE" was kind of a sly reference to the days when contestants used to "freeze" their bids during his days as the original host of "The Price is Right" on NBC and ABC in New York City.
Ah yes, the #OG of #TPiR, Mr. Bill Cullen himself on NBC's version of the above named game show.
Alex Trebek, the #JeopardyKing passed away from pancreatic cancer at the age of 80 years. (1940-2020) on November 8, 2020.
R.I.P. Alex! Thanks for the countless and unforgettable memories and for making Americans a little bit smarter!! You made Nightly Family Hour not just informative, but entertaining!!
#PancreaticCancerSUCKS!!!!!! 💔💔💔😢😢😢
Wink vs Gene vs Bill vs Alan Card Sharks Old School! (RIP)Jim, Alan, Gene & Bill!
Amen 4 saluting CP, Wink!
@tvtimetravel A bygone era without a doubt
Wasn't aware of said episode existing. I know for sure I don't have it. Maybe it'll be coming up on GSN?
It has been said that Merv Griffin initially wanted Jim Perry to replace Chuck Woolery on WoF, but NBC quickly nixed the idea because they felt it was too soon after "Card Sharks" was cancelled for Jim to be brought back on the air. Actually I agree in this instance because Wheel was too slow-paced back then for it to have worked as CS and $OTC were rapid-fire which Jim was accustomed to.
Pat Sajac was employed by NBC 4 of Columbus Ohio which was an Outlet Communications owned and operated Television station at the time. Outlet Communications had an extremely excellent relationship with NBC and RCA and General Electric and eventually NBC merged with Outlet Communications in the 1990’s. It was like Outlet Communications Owned television stations were owned by NBC!! Merv Griffin liked Outlet Communications as much as NBC and found favor in Pat Sajac who was a meteorologist at the time for NBC 4 Columbus Ohio.
I thought after Wink was done, Gene Wood would say and here's the host of Card Sharks Jim Perry.
Very observant. I grew up in Toronto, and it was not well known that J.P. was from New Jersey.
maybe the only time we see Cullen take steps in color
2:15 Wink Martindale like Chuck Woolery, Peter Marshall among others never got to host a Goodson game show.
Bill Cullen the OG of TPIR (NBC version 60s)
I love to see thr other hosts in a different environment. Any one of them could have done this show
Jim Perry's card sharks. NBC
If Jim Perry hadn't been chosen to host Card Sharks, I think Wink Martindale would have been a good host for card Sharks. :)
Jim Perry could have
I definitely agree that Wink could have been an amazing host!
This, and alot of other NBC game shows, was taped in Studio 3...the same studio that Jay Leno is taped today. Unfortunate, the studio will be torn down in the near future when NBC moves to Universal Studios.
Quick side note, I am a huge fan of the Scooby-Doo cartoon series and I remember reading that the actors strike was what delayed Scooby's 1980-81 Saturday Morning premiere until November 8th of 1980. Usually the networks Saturday Morning schedules premiered during the first or second week of September but during that season Scooby and most of the Saturday Morning shows did not debut until November because of the actors strike.
Wink got Jim Perry confused with Alex Trebek. Alex is from Canada, but Jim was born in Camden, New Jersey, outside Philadelphia. Though Perry did host a Canadian game show called Definition.
@Kelski1998 Yea they were, Bill C. was the best in my humble opinion
I assume they got Jack Clark because Chuck Woolery wouldn't do an appearance for turnabout.
Nice
Aces and deuces are the cards we seek
But sevens and eights leave us up the creek
On 'Card Sharks'!
If you think life is all work and no play
We got something special today.
While regular contestants are away.
Your favorite emcees get to play this game, their way.
LOL, the way Bill said "FREEZE!" would make one think they're in a Card Sharks shootout.
Well that's something usual:
They were the G-T Mic as I like to call it, in fact, they've used the G-T Mic on Different Shows:
Gene Rayburn on Match Game, Bill Cullen on The Joker's Wild, Allen Ludden on Tattletales (if Im not mistaken) and The Winker on Tic Tac Dough on CBS and early run 1st run syndication.
and when Jim came out as usual the Card Dealer brings him the MIC.
and also, Wink & Bill both worked in the same studio from 1984-1986 Wink on Tic Tac Dough & Cullen on The Joker's Wild
My favorite host is Allen ludden
Wow
Strange to see all hosts, except Gene holding mics. Richard Dawson would've been great on this show.
How about Bob Barker, Bert Convy, Bob Eubanks, Jim Lange, Geoff Edwards, Dick Clark, Jack Narz, Chuck Woolery, and Monty Hall?
@@Rlotpir1972Peter Marshall,too.
That intro reminded me of What's My Line where the announcer introduces the first panelist and then each panelist introduces the next one until finally the fourth panelist introduces the host.
When Bill Cullen said he was from Pittsburgh, I thought there was going to be loud applause in the crowd, as the previous Super Bowl saw his hometown Steelers win their 4th Lombardi statue.
the G-T mic was also used when Jack Barry hosted TJW. In the 1978-84 eps. that is.
And on some very rare instances of The New $25K Pyramid in the '80s, Dick Clark sometimes used the G-T mic as well.
Susan Stafford from Wheel of Fortune also used that mic. Also, Wink Martindale and Jim Caldrell (Tic-Tac-Dough), Geoff Edwards (Treasure Hunt), and Bill Cullen (The Joker's Wild '84-'86).
Jim Perry is technially from Philadelphia.
actually jim is from cadmen new jersey not philidepiha
louis tenore Camden. Cam-den.
Canada was mentioned. Mr. Perry has dual citizenship from what I've read. He's from my home state of NJ.
Jim is a graduate of UPenn's Wharton School & played basketball for the UPenn Quakers.
and also, Alex Trebek used the G-T MIC on Double Dare on CBS, Tom Kennedy used it on Whew! and The Nighttime Price is Right on syndication and Susan Stafford also used the G-T MIC on Wheel of Fortune, something that Vanna White never did, but I don't think that Vanna needed the G-T Mic or any other MIC and that's cool with me.
But on High Rollers, some of the Models used other MICS, but if anyone has any info on the Models using the G-T Mic on High Rollers please let me know, Thank You.
At this time, he was hosting "Definition" on CTV as well. A likely reason the Winkster referred to him as the "gentleman from Canada."
Did Alex Trebek, indeed from Ontario, play in this "Card Sharks" event?
Yes. Alex appeared in week 2 of the 3-week game show hosts tournament.
bill cullen
Do you have the Card Sharks episode in which Sammy Davis Jr. makes an appearence?
I apologize if I already asked that question to you.
and also, here's another fact:
Card Sharks was on when Ted Turner launched SuperStation WTCG which later became SuperStation WTBS and also, WGN became a SuperStation as well.
If I did a similar version to this special Card Sharks, I would have the Little Ladiez play against each other, and similar to this episode, they would come out and introduce each other one by one until I am the last one to be introduced.
You have NBC game show host wink Martindale Las Vegas Gambit Bill Cullen Blockbusters Allen lunden password plus before Tom Kennedy . Alex terbeck cancelled high rollers.
@sylviabh8ule let's not forget, Cullen also did The Original Chain Reaction for NBC Daytime and Geoff Edwards was a sub-host on that version, too before he did The NEW Chain Reaction for USA Network in Canada and also, when Jim Perry and Bill Cullen returned to NBC, Perry would host $ale of the Century and Cullen would host Hot Potato and plus, Gene Rayburn also did The Match Game Hollywood Squares Hour and he hated working w/Jon Bauman.
Let's not forget. Camden also had an aquarium, Campbell's factory, and is also near by Atlantic City in addition to Philadelphia. And yeah, Wink should've said "Gentleman from Camden," not Canada; regardless of Jim Perry's work there.
Power rangers Samurai Mia Shaka Hi Sam Barney Power is Icarly today
@megamanj2004X and also, Alex Trebek used it on Double Dare on CBS, Geoff Edwards on Treasure Hunt, Bob Eubanks on Trivia Trap, Jim Caldwell on Tic Tac Dough, Tom Kennedy on The Price is Right on syndication and Ricki Lake used it, too on Game Show Marathon, but I wonder has any female host or hostess has ever used the G-T MIC?
Susan Stafford on "Wheel Of Fortune" when Chuck Woolery was hosting.
Alex Trebek passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2020 from pancreatic cancer, with his wife and children by his side for his final moments.
R.I.P. #jeopardyking
