      rtx 3070 here.. and i have pretty insconsistent fps with i7 (7th gen tho...)
      i used auto-detect settings, so it's preset is very high... draw distances maxed.. i think most fps is draw distance...
      but i love it how far u can see... i think horizontally moving theres screen tearing.. so i guess it doesnt do very well with my monitor vsync off...
      should i use adaptive or fast ? in vsync settings.

    Right click on the Task Manager CPU tab and select "change graph to", select logical processors. If you have hyper-threading enabled it will show twice the core count that your CPU has. From there launch and enter the game. You will see which core or which 2 logical processors (w/hyper-threading enabled) are being used by LOTRO on the graph. High core usage can cause client side lag, adjust settings as needed.

    I generally get great performance in LOTRO but going to try some of these settings when I log on later today in areas that have issues. Minas Tirith here I come!

      Test complete! Disabling the post processing was hands down my biggest improvement. Everything else is pretty much set to max except anti-aliasing (just 2x) because I don't like how aliasing makes models look in LOTRO.

    Thanks louey. This is a well put together video. Covering an important topic . 👍

    This is good! A video that addresses, what I consider, LotRO's Achilles heel.

    I'm glad you did this but maybe not for the reasons you posted the video. I have a similar system to yours (5600X and a 3070ti) and have been playing with settings for a while trying to figure out optimum settings. Since my FPS would sometimes dip below 60FPS in some areas, I was afraid I had something set up wrong. Your settings were mostly the same and I was able to see your system can get below 60FPS in the game too.
    So the video helped me feel like I have things set up about as well as I can and aren't messing up. Thanks for sharing :)

      Eventually I will get to a proper settings video!

      I found this video while tweaking my setting and all that. The biggest issue I have is LOTRO essentially using only 1 CPU core (no matter how much of them you have). Which mean that no matter how powerful your CPU/GPU are, the bottleneck is still likely to be a single core of your CPU. This is due to how old the engine is, obviously. The fog in the video (which also appear in many other places, mostly as "ground fog", like the barrow) is a very heavy hitter (I lose nearly 60FPS by looking at it), and sadly, there are no way to disable it. That I found. Using FPS monitor, everytime I'm dropping frames, that's because a single core of my CPU hit 100%.

    • @danabell2709
      @danabell2709 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@erei2420 Yeah. As best I can tell, the game only uses one core. That isn't a surprise given it's 15 years old.
      I wouldn't say it doesn't matter how powerful your CPU/GPU is though. My old i5 8400 ran the game a lot slower. Likely because 1 core on my new CPU is a lot faster than a core on the old one was. Still I agree the game cannot make use of anywhere near all the power a modern CPU/GPU can offer.
      Maybe the rumored upcoming remaster in 2023 will help some? I can always hope :)

    Thanks a bunch, mate. Nicely put together! May I ask if anyone here got problems with micro stuttering? My system is potent enough to run the game on ultra settings with different shaders, but - not matter how low I turn the settings - I got micro stutters especially in populated areas. V-sync was my first candidate to check, but without any luck. Googled the problem and seems like I'm not the only one, but only found generic solutions which didn't help at all.

    • @rid3206
      @rid3206 ปีที่แล้ว

      the stuttering is pretty normal, me and my friends have the same and our PC's are good enough to handle this game on max settings obviously.

      I'm 36 years old and don't give up like the others here. Micro stutters, if you have a high end PC playing this ancient game, are a serious system issue. I would play with driver versions to start. Had same issue on my 2060...had to use driver that was a cple years old.

      @@aaroncash5139 it is a well known lotro problem that it has problems with multi core cpus and their ancient engine. It has been a problem since forever

    The lag can be game breaking for me. I tried HH and wanted to throw myself out a window. Thank you for the tips, hopefully I can mount my steed in Mordor without fear of death.

    My major issue is dropping sub 10fps when moving around. I get these massive drops and I don't know why. I have a very strong PC and am trying to figure out what the issues is. Huge frame drops every couple seconds especially when in cities.

    Shame about Yondershire being allergic to 144fps. All that's left to do is make a top 10 Goat tierlist.

    bro no! NEVER put a priority realtime! NEVER! put it high and you're good to go but realtime actually can cause huge issues, crashes, blue deaths

    Anti aliasing is just bad imo it smooths edges but it reduces image quality. I prefer all my games without AA if its possible.

    • @Supadrumma441
      @Supadrumma441 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lotro's AA is pretty bad too, overwrite it with you driver software is so much better.
