- Judd Sutherland visit famous make-up artist/monster maker Rick Baker and his shop around 1978. Baker displays his unique props, masks and other stuff that he was created and reveal the tricks and the secrets behind makeup techniques to his curious young guest. You can see the rubber mask from "Incredible Melting Man" (1978) and a bunch of alien heads from "Star Wars" (1977) cantina sequence.
Amongs the techniques, Baker talks about life castings, sculpting rules, moldmaking and foam rubber procedures, building creature mechanics for face movements and final makeup application.
Someone pasted this link in the comments of another vid I was watching, SO glad I wandered over to check it out. This video provides some glimpses into why certain masks were chosen/recycled for things like the Star Wars Holiday Special and the Richard Pryor skit. Many thanks, William!
That’s where I’m coming from too, but you know what I was really looking for? The SNL skit showing stars auditioning for Star Wars.
Han Solo:Christopher Walkin
C-3PO:Richard Dreyfus
Princess Leia:Barbra Streisand
Christopher Walkin reciting Star Wars lines that you instantly remember Harrison Ford saying in the movie are priceless and never age.
