    I’m an RN in CA. I’ve been a nurse for 3 years. I work 40 hours a week. My current hourly wage is 67 per hour and my benefits are free, however, my rent is 3600 a month. The average 2 bdrm rental in my area is 3200 per month. The cost of living is outrageous hence the pay. Sounds like you’re getting a better deal.

    I worked as a nurse in California for 10 years. I worked in the Bay Area for Kaiser Permanente. Kaiser Permanente nurses probably make the most money of any nurses out there. When I left in 2017, my base pay was $76.05. Overtime paid well. We worked eight hour shifts. Work double shift, it was time and a half for the first four hours and double time for the last four hours. If you worked for 16 hours, you were paid for 22. Then you had third weekend pay, if you were called in on your weekend off, the next scheduled weekend was double time for both Saturday and Sunday. Double tine and a half for all holidays - New Years Day, MLK Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. I was great, most money I every made. But here's the downside, you still can't afford a decent home. State taxes are 10% and you're in a higher tax bracket. I left in 2017 just because it was too expensive. I moved back to St. Louis make a little bit less money, but at least I have a home. And to reference your last video, yes the nurses out there do like to spend their money and still complain they don't make enough...lol

      Do you mind saying how much you made for the year and what you paid in rent/mortage? I am considering moving to CA and I would like to gain a better perspective of what to expect.

    • @VercumPraeses
      @VercumPraeses ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Baby1Bone when I first moved there in 2008 I was paying $1225 for a small one bedroom apartment in Santa Clara CA. That same apt, in 2023 that same is I’m sure well close to $3000, probably more. In the 10 years I was there, I averaged about $190K. Again, it’s different now. And everything is based on seniority, only the more the more senior nurses are offered overtime and third weekend, if you’re new, plan on being at the bottom for at least 3 or 4 years. As far as travel nursing, know your shit! They will not help you and you will always get the worst assignments. As far as they established nurses are concerned, travelers are the enemy. No travelers means they can negotiate their union contract easier. The average house is well over $1M, that’s if you can afford to outbid everyone by at least 25% over asking. I certainly wouldn’t move out there now is a Nnurse unless I was a traveler and they were paying for everything and just work and save up a bunch of money. That’s my best advice. Yes, travelers are treated like dog shit, but if you don’t plan on staying out there, who cares

    Some questions:
    Do you ever feel unsafe going into patients’ homes? Are you exposed to bedbugs, second hand smoke, etc? Can you write off a portion of your vehicle? Does your job require heavy lifting?

    • @AccordingToTawanda
      @AccordingToTawanda  ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Hi M!! Honestly I have never felt unsafe in any patients home. I usually communicate with my husband throughout the day. He is always aware of my schedule. My husband also knows that it is very rare not to have some form of communication from me in between parties. I have never been exposed of bed bugs that I am aware. I have been in homes that are not the tidiest, and a couple hoarder homes. I’ve never had a patient or family to smoke while I was in the home. However, I can smell and tell if someone in a home smokes. My job requires minimal lifting. The most I’ve lifted in the position is a lower extremity. However, I’m sure other people have different experiences. Write-offs have change a lot from when I did HH years ago. My solid answer is no. If you work under a 1099 it will allow write offs. A lot people work under 1099 in HH.
      I hope these answers help. Thanks for watching, and commenting 😊

    I stay in California because of the nurse to patient ratio and the fact that I make 95.00/hr. The hospital gives us cna's 24/7 as well as resource nurses each shift to give us breaks because California is strict on breaks and we get penalty pay if even one 15 min break is missed. The resource nurse breaks us, does our admissuons, our blood sugars etc and basically picks up the slack. I work 2 jobs and I am not stressed at either job I have. This is why California is awesone for nurses
