    Absolutely do not ever stick your head over the keg if there's *anything* going wrong; many years ago, there was a training film going around for barmen to show the dangers of messing with kegs - it was CCTV footage of someone messing with a keg that was hooked up.
    GRAPHIC DESCRIPTION WARNING
    The spike that goes into the keg (so the pump draws from the bottom) got launched up, through the guy's head, and pinned him to the ceiling. It happened so fast you couldn't even see the impact on the footage. Sure, the keg in the clip seen in the video here is venting, but I would not want to stick my head above it when there's any risk of anything failing further.

      @@alexabc220it's most helpful for things like chip pan fires etc. You need to cover the entire fire (the blanket is used to block oxygen and smother the fire out) but the way they laid it on the stove would still allow oxygen flow/burning , it would still have been helping just not fully effectively

    • @AD270479
      @AD270479 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@alexabc220 You need to cut oxygen off from getting to the fire, so any gaps is going to render it useless... In this situation, the best way to use it, is to not use it. Just shutting the oven/grill door would actually have done a better job at cutting out the oxygen supply.

    • @Stevelives13
      @Stevelives13 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@alexabc220 Fire blankets work by smothering the fire to starve it of oxygen. Without oxygen you cant have fire. They just placed it loosely over the front of the flames but the oven door was open allowing a gap. Effectively it was just like a tent over the fire. You really have to use it in a way that blocks all the surrounding air from reaching the fire.

    Fire blanket, JT. It’s made to be highly fire resistant so you can smother flames with it. Used correctly they’re good on most cooking fires and IMO every kitchen should have one as well as a small extinguisher. But it’s not exactly ideal to wait until you set your kitchen on fire to get it out, chuck it on the flames and hope, and stand there like an idiot reading the instructions to see if you did it right.

    • @aaronmicalowe

    Hey JT... The clup with the guy on the bike who didn't stop... I can tell you exactly what happened (cos Ive done this). He's wearing cycling shoes which clip onto the pedals and you have to twist your feet out from the pedal clips before you stop. If you struggle to unclip your foot, you have to keep rolling cos if you come to a stop you just fall straight over. You can see that he tried to unclip his left foot, which would be his dominant foot to put down first. When that failed to happen in time, he reach over to lean on the car to his right, but he was already leaning towards the left and still couldn't get his foot unclipped. So he stacked it. It happens to the best of us!

    A very British thing. You never assist in carrying beer when the person has chosen to carry too much, you sit back, watch with baited breath then cheer loudly when it all goes wrong. Thats the British way. It is also written in law that if someone drops a plate in a resturant, you have to cheer that as well.

    That has pull tabs so it is a fireblanket specifically designed for kitchen fires. However it is meant to be put tight to the burning item to smother the flames. Not how they used it with a bloody big gap.
