JINJER - Tatiana Shmaylyuk interview @Linea Rock 2019 by Barbara Caserta

  • JINJER European Tour 2019 has been an incredible success with venue’s upgrades and pretty much sold out shows everywhere: after 10 years of hard working, does this explosion find the Ukrainian metalcore quartet ready? What is so appealing about Jinger music and live shows? Do they change setlist evey nite or they prefer to keep it fix and tight? Your truly BARBARA CASERTA talked about all of this with growl-girl TATIANA SHMAYLYUK in Milano, on December 14th 2019, at Magazzini Generali, right before the hot awaited event… Plus: the “Micro” EP and the “Macro” album concepts and twisted songwriting, the influence of a war enviroment in their sound and inspiration, the music scene in their country and why Jinjer actually emerged as “Best Ukrainian Metal Act”, her excellent vocal range which has grown thru different genres, bands and situations pressing finally the pedal to the metal, her main female idol (guess who?)… her biggest goal, the wildest dream and get surprised by what’s next in the plans! Very special thanks to NeeCee Agency & Bagana.

Just discovered this band little over a month ago. I haven't really found anything intriguing since perhaps Fear Factory in the late 90s so I'm all in with Jinjer. I love their sound, their diversity, and the aesthetics of the band as a whole. I don't need any extra theatrics, no face paint, stupid masks, 48 band members, etc. Just give me 4 genuine people playing/singing their hearts out. I love it.
Also been checking out their interviews along the way and this one stands out in my mind just given the fluidity of the conversation, which is what it felt like rather than an interview. Tatiana seemed really into this interview so kudos to the interviewer.

The duality of this woman is part of what makes her so appealing. You can see the vulnerability, and I think it speaks to the vulnerability in many of us. She has said she is basically sad by nature, and you can kinda see it in her eyes. She handles it with such grace, strength, power and passion that one can't help but route for her, and for the whole band. It's the passion and drive that make them stand out. Her talent is God level, and like every other metal guy in the world (and most of the chicks too, admit it ladies!) I fell in love with her at first listen--but I'm kinda glad she's married now. She deserves some fulfillment inn life, like we all do. Enjoy peace and freedom for a minute! Take a break! Have a baby! Enjoy the fruits of your Incredible labor! Just please don't do anything to rob the world of more Jinjer. Band chemistry this perfect is exceedingly rare. My best advice: emulate Rush. They found the perfect chemistry, and it revolved around the FRIENDSHIP and mutual respect they all had for each other. They extended the chemistry over decades. They were always a fringe group, never mainstream, but they grew through relentless touring and dedication. And they never let their growing success go to their heads. They stayed humble. Tatiana, please take good care of yourself, find your happy place for the long run, and gift the world with much more of you and your band's amazingly beautiful music and powerful live energy! You're the best there is! We love you! Please keep it up forever!

Think their problem is they can't fill out bigger halls which means they have to play alot more gigs in smaller places. Covid really set them back and they're now trying to get back on track. People really need to buy their albums on cd etc even if they don't have a cd player...buy merch etc. Like a sports club support them.

When we see rockstars , we think they are having the time of their lives , but it's not always so, I think what Tatiana is trying to say about extroverts/ introverts. Extroverts like being center of attention but introverts are not comfortable in the situation, so they create alt person which switches on.💗

6:12 This is why I really like these guys. I do like the dichotomy and back and forth of female clean and fry-type screaming, especially when it's coming from a single singer and one as talented as Tatiana. But Eugene and Vlad are both phenomenal and introduce so much nuance and depth, on top of Roman's playing and her vocals. I love that there's not one you can single out as a stand out performer.

  • @Swampster70
    @Swampster70 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Tati is gorgeous and amazingly beautiful but that's isn't the reason why I love Jinijer. That she is beautiful doesn't make me watch the band more - that the band is awesome does. Especially since Vlad joined the band, I feel the band grew more.
But I can't deny - Tati is beautiful. She is beautiful and she can sing so well. Her talent is amazing. I don't know any singer that can go from clean, to jazz, to a vocal belt like Anne Wilson can to a deep growl,.
You can't deny that Tati's vocals aren't amazing. Teacher Teacher left me remembering my school upbringing. When I was listening to this in the car my daughter asked me if I was crying. Being a guy I said no.... but I was. Perennial, I'm not sure why, has the same effect on me. Pisces is the same. I'm an old guy, I'm not supposed to feel this way, right?
But the music behind the lyrics: Amazing. As a musician they're so interesting. Songs like Retrospection make me love music more. So beautiful, so powerful.

L'intervista nel complesso è piacevole ma a volte l'intervistatrice parlava sopra Tatiana e la interrompeva

I think that's a new tattoo on her right hand. I've never seen a tattoo with red on her.

20:50 don't laugh when taking Metallica as example, it's totally realistic they would tour with them. The only issue with overtaking them is that growling is less mainstream, and Metallica is therefore simply more commercial. But imo Jiner already outranks other growling bands like Arch enemy, Devil Driver, Slipknot...

Jinjer opening for Metallica would be EPIC!!! LET'S MAKE THAT HAPPEN!!

maybe you should use a microphone, to avoid those annoying background voices

    • @BarbaraCaserta

Most of the time guests are annoyed by holding the mic all the time, I rather prefer them to feel relaxed and at ease to get great quotes... plus, with 4 bands & roadies & managers around a backstage pre-show it would have been noisy anyways, trust me... even this is rock'n''roll!

@@BarbaraCaserta You can use lavalier microphone if you want them to feel relaxed and not holding microphone in their hands. It's more professional with good audio.
I make interviews myself (on my other channel - Black Dot Production, the pink thumbnail, I do have interview even with Jinjer, taken 3 years ago, they are great people).
Of course my first attempts for interviews are not so good, but now I have better equipment and software for editing and I try to deliver better quality for the audience.
Usualy I use normal microphine, which I bough years ago for 30 euros, but it deliver great audio quality, and last year I bought Rode lavalier microphone, it's awesome.
This interview with Tatyana is great, but little hard to watch. Greetings from Belgrade.

@@VasseVIDZ We always have a "Plan A" which is to welcome the guests in our studio, a proper full radio/tv studio, where we have all the super pro equipment (check out all the interviews filmed and recorded in our studio here on our channel) but it's not always possible for the artists to come over there... thanks for your suggestions, hopefully my boss will provide me with extra equipment for off-site videointerviews... I bought all the stuff I have myself (including pro cameras to shoot shows), but sorry I cannot afford everything on my own...

we are an italian radio station, we have our studios and everything, but sometimes is not possible. sometimes the artist have a short times between soundcheck/dinner/live/... and not always is possible to move the artists from the noisy backstage due security and logistics issue... we try to do our best
we are sorry if you don't like the result
