    Thank you so much for this video! Fixed two 6030's - one I had to a repair shop three times and problems not fixed. A second I got on E-bay for parts. Thanks to your guidance, they both run smoothly now and every function is working. The one for parts is now being used. I have two 'modern' embroidery/sewing machines but for regular sewing, I will go to the 6030 every time! You are my hero!!

    I just purchased a Viking 6030 from the original owner. She has all the paper work with it and all the accessories. She has not used it for a while so very stiff. Thanks for the great instructions on how to un gum it. I had on these that was destroyed in a flood . It broke my heart so I am so excited.!!!!

    I, too, bought a 6030 stuck in reverse. Even with just tri-flow, some heat, and time, it sprung back to life in 3-4 days, going through several phases (hard to move, screwdriver only, to move with my fingers, to slooowwwwly moving out of reverse by itself, to bouncing back). Give it time, folks, work it morning and evening. I finally got the carb cleaner today (B12 per recommendation) and it hasn't seemed to make any further improvement to the responsiveness.
    Thank you for the confidence builder, another vote for "It's really possible" and to emphasize give it TIME with even just the tri-flow!

    • @austinado16
      @austinado16  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      TriFlow is a lubricant. It's not a penetrant, so it doesn't creep or contain solvents that would work to soften and hopefully remove the old dried grease. PB Blaster, or better yet, Kroil, would be the preference, along with the carb cleaner, and heat. Once things are moving freely, the TriFlow can be used as a lubricant, which is where it excels. Glad you were able to get your machine going again.

    Thank you for the detailed instructions. It's been surprising to me how many shops won't work on the 6000 series!! I LOVE my 6030, I purchased it with all of my graduation money in 1972, totally the top of the line then. Hi Carol! I have a lot of experience on this machine. My mom was sewing more clothes to my siblings (I´m '66 , sister '68 and lil'bro '72). As oldest I was always "helping" her :). Amazingly, I can still remember she was sewing early 70's and now a couple years later (1973 - 2023) my wife got a heritage Husqvarna. 6030 needs old oil flush. I hope ToddM's instructios works.

    I just bought a 'repair/parts' 6030. Seller said the arm doesnt move but he hears the motor wanting to run.
    I am hoping it is just seized and the cam and crank shaft are ok. I already have a working 6030 but the plastic crank shaft broke. I bought it for 50$ at a flea market so I wasnt surprised to see the part had broken before as oer the crazy glue on it lol. Great machines so I have a new one coming. This is a terrific, clear, and helpful video. I have a 6360 that was completely seized up and was able to get it working after watching this several times. I really appreciate that you point out the key parts of the machine's button hole feature as that was completely stuck as well. I was able to find a Service Manual online and that gave me details on service adjustments. After watching your video, I was able to get this beautiful machine working after replacing the main cam (a bit tricky, but patience and perseverance are the keys). Now the machine is working although the stitch width knob rocks a little when I'm sewing and so I'm wondering if there is a way to tighten it up? Thank you again for the wonderful instructional repair video!

    Your videos are SO helpful! I live on the Central Coast of CA where competent repair people have been hard to find. Twice, two different shops have returned my machine still not working correctly, so the last time I couldn't use it (completely frozen) I followed your instructions. it's a 1975 6430, and I got almost everything to work, just using the hairdryer/carbeurator cleaner and lubricant method. (Actually used silicone spray - not sure that's the right thing?). BUT, the stitch selector is still not functioning. The outer wheel turns partway (two stops), but the ring between it and the machine, the one with the colored bars does not turn. It is not stuck to the body of the machine, but seems disengaged from the knob that you turn. So, wondering if there might be another issue besides just being stuck. I know you can't diagnose everyone's individual issues, but in case there's something obvious that you or anyone else who has used your videos might know, I'd love to hear it. Thanks again for making and posting these informative, clear videos.

      Thank you for the kind words. Have you taken your machine to Steve at A&M Sewing and Vacuum in SLO on Alfonso St.? I'm sure he could fix it.
      When you're doing this process, think in terms of:
      -Getting metal parts hot enough that the hardened varnish will soften
      -Understand that even with a lot of heat, that varnish may be so stuck to the metal, that it has to be scraped off with a tool
      -With the varnish softened, and the metal hot, the cleaning solvents in Carburetor Cleaner (I only use Barrymans) will have the best chance to attack and dissolve it. However, it's a good idea to use other products that have a good solvent base, and WD-40 is top on that list. It's a terrible lubricant, but an excellent metal cleaner. You can follow the WD-40 with something like Kroil, or PB Blaster, and then use TriFlow
      -Once you get a system working, following up with a drop or 2 of synthetic, very high quality, sewing machine oil, would be an excellent idea
      Regarding your current issue, I'm betting that if you just look in that area of the machine with a bright LED pen light, and rotate, or attempt to rotate the associated knobs, you'll see the mechanical parts that are trying to move. Doing so might give you an "Ah-ha" moment, where you suddenly see and understand what the knob(s) are attempting to move. You can then focus on that area, and it may take several attempts, and maybe even over a period of days, but I think you'll get it.

    • @GlennaThompson-k8x
      @GlennaThompson-k8x ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, thanks AGAIN for even more helpful advice. I did use Berryman's, as per your video. But was afraid of WD40 so will try that, and the bright LED, and THEN will try Steve. A recommendation for someone in the area by you is worth following up on, so will. I looked for 'TriFlow' but didn't find anything with that name, but will look more for that too. Many thanks for the followup message.

    Very informative video, thanks for posting. Interestingly enough, after struggling to get things moving with the machine, I finally loosened a screw that I thought might get me some slack in the cog belt. It didn't. What it did do is release the spring-loaded reduction gear, which dropped out of position. Once it was out of the "loop", the machine took off running. Then I replaced the reduction gear and the machine went back to frozen mode. I'm leaving it out, and hoping I find out what could be wrong the assembly. Maybe it's usable without the reduction gear? Any ideas? Thanks again.

    This is a great video on these machines. I fell in love with these a decade ago and brought 3 back to life. They are hard to work on and I had two that needed new camstack gears. I have a minty mint 6570. It's been serviced and has a new cam stack. It feels a little stiff when I turn the wheel but sews fine. Are the 6570's supposed to feel a little tight when you turn the handwheel manually? Thank you for posting.

    Eureka! I could not figure out how to open the housing above the needle, thank you!
    I'm working on a Viking Husqvarna model 10 30 (and have been challenged to find repair info) . I don't know how old it is but it was my grandmother's and I'm no spring chicken. My machine is not doing zig zag stitches anymore and I'm not sure the stitch length knob is functioning correctly either. Can I use WD40 to clean moving parts? Would I spray a little and hold a cloth underneath?
    Also it was my understanding that one is only supposed to use sewing machine oil (lily white) to lube machines (as other oils can stain fabrics or ultimately gunk up machines). Thoughts?

      It's been a few years since I worked on that machine and created the video. I've always been able to get them freed up, by doing what I show in the video. It may take some effort, and I may have to revisit some areas, but I've never had to take one apart any further. With a bright LED flashight, or a penlight like a Streamlight, you can focus the beam on a very selected area, and then wiggle the knob back and forth and see what it's trying to move. Then focus your attention on that location. I'm sorry that I'm not of more help.

    Was this machine cleaned internally before making the video? It looks very clean, no signs of oil/varnish or cleaning fluid residues. I'm taking on mother's machine, stored for years, well-maintained, just gummed up. Will dirt, goo and cleaning products run down onto machine parts, or require a thorough cleaning afterward? If the inside gets messy, which you're video doesn't show, perhaps I'll opt for a pro. Your video shows how nice the beautiful piece of machinery cleans up. Inspiring. Thx.

    • @austinado16
      @austinado16  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How the machine looks in the video is exactly how it looked when opened up. Sewing machines, by nature, are very "sterile" inside. So as long as they have always been stored inside a home, they will be very clean inside.

    How do you tighten up the loose power contacts where the cord plugs in?

    • @austinado16
      @austinado16  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What usually works well is to try to slightly close the female connectors located inside the plug, at the end of the power supply cord. You may be able to accomplish this by using a flat blade jeweler's screw driver. Place the blade of the screw driver between the outside of the female connector, which is basically a thin metal barrel, and the hard plastic of the power cord end, and then gently "pry" against the female connector, to slightly close in the diameter of the barrel shape. If you look closely at the metal female end, you might be able to see a seam in the metal. Place the tip of the screwdriver to once side or the other, of the seam, and then pry. You should see the barrel change shape, and become slightly smaller. It doesn't take much force, or much of a change in the diameter.

      There's no way for me to accurately diagnose via keyboard. If it were my machine, I'd take it apart and see if it was "glued" together inside with varnish, and if it was, resolve the issue as detailed. If you're not able to perform such work, I'd suggest taking or sending the machine to a qualified service shop.

    • @austinado16
      @austinado16  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have any parts. May I suggest that you take a look on ebay. If the existing handwheel is broken, and you have the majority of the pieces, you can probably epoxy it back together, either using a two-part epoxy specifically for plastic, or JB Weld. Or if you're in a situation where it's mounting area is broken or missing pieces (so that it won't stay on the shaft of the machine), you may be able to "rebuild" that area, using "Epoxy Steel Putty" or similar. ESP is thick, and cures incredibly hard, in about 10min. As it's curing, you can shape it, or shape it around something. After it's cured, you can shape it or modify it, using a dremel tool and a small bit. Either way, I think you have some solid options and will be able to get the machine going again! I'm sorry I could be of more help. A lot of times on something like this, I'll use a bright LED flashlight to look inside the machine, while I articulate what ever it is that I want to fix or adjust. For example, your offset needle. I'll move the needle from it's incorrect position, to it's correct position, repeatedly, while inspecting all the linkage that is being caused to move. A bright LED flashlight can really help with this. I'm usually able to see where there are adjustment points, or where something is stuck (glued together by old varnished lubricant), and then take the necessary steps to correct the problem. For example, in your case, the offset might be caused by the dial that adjusts that, or what the dial initially contacts, or moves. Sounds like you have the skill to solve the issue, so I think if you just keep playing with it, you'll have that "ah-ha...found you!" moment.

    I have fixed the thread tension which was so high that the thread was just stuck, and I took away the dust inside, but now it still won't work. If I turn the wheel by hand I can make it move, but if I try the pedal the motor makes sounds but the macine does not move (and I don't dare try too much because I am scared thet the motor will burn or something).
    Also: you have the cutest way ever of pronouncing Husqvarna!

    • @austinado16
      @austinado16  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry for my wrong pronunciation of "Husqvarna." :-) Regarding your mom's machine, it seems pretty common for all these old machines, whether they are Pfaff, Husqvarna/Viking, Elna, etc. to suffer from their old lubrication oils evaporating and drying up, which leaves behind a varnish that acts like glue, sticking the moving parts of the machine together. The trick of getting those glued areas hot with a hair dryer seems to always work. Sometimes as the parts cool down the moving parts will again be stuck, so you have to repeat the process, or in worst cases, you may gave to take that portion of the machine apart and actually clean the pivoting/moving parts (using some king of solvent like carburetor cleaner).
      Hope this helps!

    Great video. I fixed a stuck button hole unit for a 5230 model. When using the button hole function, the reverse button should be pressed automatically at position 1. However, the reverse button is not pressed automatically, but when pressing the reverse button at position 1 it stays in reverse. When leaving position 1, the reverse button is released as it is supposed to do. The spring being activated at position 1 for the button hole function seems being too weak to press the reverse button. However this is a real minor.
