    Easily the best game I played in 2022 and I can’t get enough of this one. Has absolutely landed in my top 5 of all time and is an amazing team game.

    It's annoying though that now in the core box comes forgotten island+across the river maps and to get narrow passage and magma & ice maps, you need to buy neoprene mats, but the combinations are narrow passage+across the river and forgotten island+magma & ice. So you will get twice the same core box map.

      Yeah they dropped the ball with that one. Even worse they are to arrogant to admit it.

    I have an all-in kickstarter in my collection, but no one to play against. This isn't a game I can take with me to a local store gaming night, this needs a group of dedicated players and we buy too many games to focus on one game. One of the best games in my collection that probably never will be played.

    Thank you for the review!

    The addons to get those additional heroes seem a lot. vs the base game. I hope your analysis going further includes the value of the KS price (or if not a separate mini section where you venture into price). It spikes with those addons which is more than half the game (no k.s. discount for those addons).

      I thought that was interesting too. About $67 for the base game, and then to get the 5 hero packs adds another $213! The only thing I can think of is they're doing what drug dealers do. The first dose is "free" because they know if you like it you'll be coming back for more and they can charge what they want at that point.

    First time when this game was on Kickstarter I wanted to get it, but 4 player stopped me from it. Now I want to get it and I know I might not get it played, but would love to play it. This game feels is what I would enjoy. I did get Super Fantasy Brawl instead just cause it was a two player, but not quite there...

    I would back it instantaneously if I could play it with 2 people. Sounds outstanding!

    • @clanechelon

      You can, if you are willing to both play 2 champions. I've never played the game, but it looks simple enough especially after a couple of playthrough, unless either of you is prone to analysis paralysis

      @@clanechelon But is it as fun or do you lose the experience of having more players?

    • @clanechelon
      @clanechelon ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zenster1097 Based on my research, the game really seems to be balanced around bigger groups as you need to strategize openly with your team (giving away information to your opponents) and, while resolving the actions, you can no longer discuss with your team(opening the door to mistakes). This is obviously gone in 1v1... It seems to be closer to a traditional skirmish games with the MOBA wincons. Again, I've never played the game, but I have been eyeing and researching for a while. i am not sure if I would pick it up for 2p, but mostly cause I barely never play 2p games. We are usually 3-5 in my group

    How does this compare to Super Fantasy Brawl? I have that already and not sure if I need this as well.
    I appreciate it is a bigger game, but with the player requirements I’m sure SFB will get played more.
    Interested though.

    For people who would love to experience some teamwork in a skirmish game, I think there won't be another title that does it as well as this one for a very long time.

    Consider Skytear for a similar game playable at lower player counts (while also being great with more).

      You could always make home rules and play 1v1, where each player controls 2 or 3 heroes each. Probably not the exact same feeling as playing 4 players, but I think a viable and still fun substitute method, if you are missing the extra players.

    They confirmed that the addon like , mega minions, tower and relics wont be part on the current campaign and won’t make a return because the core gameplay is at it’s best without those. Did you play with those game modifier ? If yes were they good gameplay wise or the game felt better without them?

  • @cymraegddraig
    @cymraegddraig ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Again totally agree, the game itself is brilliant. But as I said In your other video , the expansion boxes are too.darned expensive.
    What's your take on the prices of these Chris?

  • @anab0lic
    @anab0lic ปีที่แล้ว +1

    hmm I prefer my skirmish games to be a 1 vs 1 battle of wits, and while this game can be played that way, is it really the best choice vs other options out there in this genre, that were specifically designed as a 2 player experience... Aristeia! Judgement eternal champions, Skytear, to name a few....

    • @forouza1
      @forouza1 ปีที่แล้ว

      People do play this at 2 player but it is definitely meant to be played at 4 or 6 player.

  • @LaurensPP
    @LaurensPP ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This thing is simply way more expensive as it has right to be. In my country, with VAT and Shipping the full package goes for €325 (+ a waiting list of at least another 1 year). What. The. Fuck. In the end the package is a bunch of miniatures, a lot of cards and a couple of boards. It has no business costing anything more than €150.

    • @lit_wick
      @lit_wick ปีที่แล้ว

      I ended up buying only the core game with two expansions. Ended up being 150usd. Which I feel is fair for 17 characters and two maps. Comes out to less than $10 a character, for MOBA games, that's pretty good.

  • @luisecmf
    @luisecmf ปีที่แล้ว

    You sold the game for me. Do you feel the base game is enough or the game really needs more heroes right away? I found the hero expansions somewhat expensive

    • @steveschlepphorst
      @steveschlepphorst ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a lot of depth and replayability in the base game, but if you think you'll play >5 times, I have personally found the add-on heroes very worth it (I was all in on the first KS and will certainly be all-in again). $8/hero feels very reasonable, to me, alongside comparable things like Unmatched or FFG releases for Marvel Champions or Arkham. I've also played a lot of KS games and thought "the production is cool but I'd happily trade some extra plastic for more development and fine-tuning to make a better game." Guards is my most-played game of the last few years, and I have a lot of confidence in the development work that goes into each hero.. Our local group has played maybe 50 times and isn't slowing down, and the depth/fun of exploring heroes adds considerably to that. Obviously ymmv with how a group takes to a game and how much play it gets, but this is the one we keep coming back to.

    • @forouza1
      @forouza1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Extra heroes are so worth it. The game shines with all the variability in the heroes.
