Highlights from the Planes of Fame Flight demo for the Lockheed P-38 Lightning. Amazing number of people turned out for the day.
The Lockheed P-38 Lightning is a twin-engine fighter aircraft that was used by the US Army Air Forces during World War II. It gained its name from the shape of its fuselage, which resembled the letter "V". The P-38 was used in a variety of roles, including as a long-range escort fighter, a fighter-bomber, and a photo reconnaissance aircraft. The P-38 was one of the most advanced aircraft of its time and had a number of significant features, including a unique twin-boom design and a sophisticated electrical system. It was the first American fighter aircraft to fly faster than 400 mph in level flight and was capable of flying at altitudes up to 44,000 feet.During World War II, the P-38 saw action in both the European and Pacific theaters. It was particularly effective in the Pacific, where its long range and high altitude capabilities made it an excellent escort fighter for bombers. The P-38 was also used extensively in the Pacific for low-level ground support and as a fighter-bomber.The P-38 remained in service with the US military until the early 1950s and was used by a number of foreign air forces as well. Several P-38s are still flying today as part of private collections or in museum displays.

Lockheed has built 2 of the most beautiful aircraft ever: the P38 and the Connie.

One of the most stylish and interesting heavy fighters of World War II. I can imagine what opportunities it will have if it is recreated for peaceful purposes with the help of the most modern materials.

I can guarantee a Live Fire is never on the cards. Close you may get is a pyro pass at one of the airshows where if you dream real hard you can maybe think it is.

      No, it is not.
      It is it's own design.

*Hardly. The Deadliest Fighter in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations. By Far.*
*1,000 Reconnaissance versions were built, and they shot 90% of all the Allied Reconnaissance Photographs taken over Germany.*
*They flew un-Armed and un-Escorted all over Germany.*

All historic planes should not fly anymore. Irreplaceable historic machines are destroyed in flying accidents every year

      What a ridiculous comment.

Most of the accidents are from pilot errors. The war birds today are in way better condition then new. Better maintenance, material fluids and personal.
What's the sense of having them in a warehouse and not flying them.

Check your facts Dozens more are being restored and most warbirds that do go down are also re- restored. But 7500 auto accidents and a hundred people dying every day doesn't make the news Also you may find the number of airplane fatalities worldwide last year was less than a week of deaths in America alone in cars
