    One thing that I learned is that knowing the very details are crucial to execute a movement perfectly. You had the touch to explain every corner case that often comes unseen. As a white belt, I thank you for sharing this fundamentals with us.

    I love this pass! Fredson, my old professor, showed me this at blue belt and I've been using it since. Thank you! Great instruction. I'm going to teach this today.

    Yup, I agree with the other guy, so many details, showed nice and slow.
    That's what we, white belts are looking for ;-)
    Respect and thanks for this video!

    Did this in class tonight with a slight alteration. When you pull the leg back to hook the foot you have to really drop the hips deep into the mat. Otherwise the dude on his back can hook that foot behind your knee and your not passing guard and on a few occasions he even got the other leg out and round he back.

  • @jessg562
    @jessg562 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I think it’s more effective to sprawl once you trap the foot, makes passing so much easier 🙌

    • @MMALeech
      @MMALeech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's always a good option especially when the opponent throws his free leg over your back and grabs it with his opposite arm, negating the step over method.
      Only drawback of the sprawling method is that you don't have much drive to keep your head in the proper place, if your opponent pushes your head to the same side that you are passing it's gonna be hard to finish the pass.

      @@MMALeech Hi Professor, is there any video of you demonstrating this sprawling technique? Or perhaps, you can give me a reference to this movement being used in a fight.

    A good opponent won't let you kick your leg out like that, they'll keep their hook attached to your leg.

    • @MMALeech
      @MMALeech  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you can't free your leg you can always trap his foot with your hand before kicking out, or windshield wiper the other leg trapping both of his ankles with your shin.

  • @besogon
    @besogon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How will this work with gi? With gi the opponent playing guard can pull you closer by grabbing lapel, can he not?

    • @MMALeech
      @MMALeech  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You gotta make sure you break the lapel grip before you engage trying to pin him down, otherwise you might be susceptible to collar chokes, loop chokes etc...
      As a general rule, always break the collar grip before you start passing any type of guard, not only butterfly...

    What am I doing wrong? The guys keep chasing me with that far side hook when I kick my leg back 3:56. Their hooks seem like they're glued to my thighs. I'm tempted to try use my right arm to try to hold their ankle.

    • @MMALeech
      @MMALeech  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Using the arm can be a good option to kill that hook, just make sure you don't lose tightness/control over his hips otherwise he can create space and recover guard.
      You can also wait a little longer and time it when he tries to step on the mat. Anytime he steps on the mat trying to hip escape out of that bad position, he won't be using his foot as a hook.

    • @mpageflint

      MMA Leech Yes. Very smart thinking -- to wait the foot to shift. Thank you sir.

      You could try cross-facing strongly so that they must face the other way, that might make it harder for them to chase

      Keep your head centered on his chest so there is no guillotine.

    I was told recently not to do it this qway anymore. That it is better to have your hands available to control the biceps. Do you agree? BJJ changes so fast and this is 4 years later.

    • @MMALeech
      @MMALeech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Things change fast indeed. What are you referring to more specifically Andrew? To control the biceps and then still do the same technique or take a different route?

      @PTS.MT.Goalie.BJJ.Andrew 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MMALeech Man, it's been a while. I think it's almost the same thing except we do not control the foot but instead the bicep on both sides. Maybe it's a walk around or a switch base. I'm not sure. It was shown to me about 3 months ago from Mathieu Gagné a black belt at BJJ Quebec BTT affiliate. Ill have to ask him and get back to you.

      @@MMALeech This is what he said"Sorry for the delay. The pass i teach is from the Blue to purple curriculum. Very similar. I keep the pant with my hand until the hand to prevent the guard recovery thought.
      " I remember also a blue belt from gracie university who trains here said something about how he was taught that way too from their online videos as more of a self defence option. I wish I could ask them personally but we are still mostly on lock down. Just opening up slowly but it's controversial since there is no evidence of herd immunity.
