    Looks like a great design if you have a need for adjustable heights! Simple and effective. With some additional thought and planning, you could even make the heights correspond to various machinery for indeed/outfeed support! My only criticism is footprint they'd take up when not in use. In that regard, nothing I've found works better than the 2 sets of folding plastic sawhorses I bought 30 some years ago. All 4 of them hang neatly on the wall on a bracket and out of the way. They're good quality, hold a lot of weight and are easy to carry. These look really good though, Jon!

    Hey thanks for a truly ingenious sawhorse design. The only way I deviated from the plans was to use 5/8" diameter hitch pins instead of anchor bolts. They came with retainer clips. So if I am doing something with a lot of vibration they're unlikely to slip out. I also love how sturdy they are.

    I tried to get away with using cedar pickets for all the braces. After all, this first one I'm making is a test. I wholeheartedly advise against using cedar. It's not nearly strong enough. I also advise making a jig for the foot leg assembly.
    I haven't made the part that is made last. But based on what I've done so far, I would recommend making another jig to keep that part square. Be sure to follow Jon's instructions how to keep the feet identical. It's very important.

  • @rclayton80

    It looks like depending on where you insert the pin (top rail vs bottom) you can get adjustability finer then the two inch spacing of the holes in the riser.

    I am in the process of making more of these adjustable sawhorses. It is not as easy as it looks. And I am a fair to middlin woodworker. I've got the first one about three-quarters done. The quality is so low I would be embarrassed to even attempt to sell it. No fault except mine. I will keep at it, though.

    Jon, you may want to erase this comment.
    I find that the leg/foot assembly, as designed, is too hard for me to do, accurately, since I don't own a finish nailer. What I'm going to do with the next one will be to use a one-piece foot running horizontally. The triangle braces will be approximately 14 inches tall and 16 inches wide. The feet will have a cutout on the bottom 3in in from both ends, about 11/2 deep. I finished my first one and I had about five and a half hours invested in making just that one. I had it in my head that it was only going to take me about maybe an hour and a half to make one. You make it look real easy. And you did a great job.

    Hi Jon,
    I've been seeking a sawhorse design that would lend itself to outfeed table utility and by goodness, I think I've found my victim. I can see that you have had a lot of takers on this concept, but finding a decent outfeed support for my table saw would be the bomb.
    Due to its inherent abilty to free stand, provide a wide base of stability as well as a decent amount of 35"+ stabilty, why not?
    I plan to play around with the foundation your design provides and if it works out, I'll provide you with some photos of my Frankenstein sawhorse creation. Ahhh-Haa-Haa-Haa! Damn, I think my attempt at an evil laugh just caused my autocorrect to blow up). Cheers ... Dave

    What a complete waste of time!!! My $20 plastic Harbor Freight ones work just as well!!! I can picture you chuckling while reading this... I enjoy seeing everyone customize their own saw horses differently. Well done Bud. Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey out!!

    • @billnelson3605
      @billnelson3605 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure your comment about the Harbor Freight plastic horses was made in jest. Those are the reason I'm looking at plans for saw horses. I'm working on a fairly heavy platform for a washer and dryer, and can barely manage the weight. To make it easier to unload the materials to build it, I decided to cut the plywood to size in my 16' X 7' trailer, using the HF plastic horses. With my wife's help, we managed to get the plywood on the horses, but one of the links that holds the legs in place separated while we were cutting and the last couple of inches of the kerf broke. Not a happy camper! They're so lightweight that it's hard to put something fairly heavy on them without having them flip over. I do have some HF horses with metal legs and wooden top that work pretty well, but they're in an outbuilding holding up another project.
