The Minimap before you start the battle does show you where the ship is going to be when you load up the mission. You Placed both capital ships on the far left of the convoy, away from where the enemy ship was coming from, which was the red ship icon on the Minimap.
Oh and By the Way, You can cram bigger guns onto the top deck of the Ardent. The Deck is rated for 11 ton weapons, and the 4 pounder is 3 tons. You should be able to cram 9 pounder Desaguliers, or 24 pounder Carronades onto that top deck.
Still, a 3 mission sea rampage, and quite a successful run so far!

The corvettes may come back in for one of the later missions, and Carronades may or may not be important for said mission. Wink wink nudge nudge.

The CREW is probably the coolest feature of this game. Every Task on the ship needs a number of crew to properly operate, and their is 4 different tasks with the 5th tab being "free crew" who are standing by for orders.
Need your crew to conduct Damage control and short on crew? Turn the cannons OFF and furl the Sails and they will all focus on Damage Control Duty.
Need to sail the a captured ship out of the battle and keep it afloat? Turn the cannons off and most of the crew will work on keeping the ship floating and the needed crew will man the Sails and Rigging.
So on and so forth.

It's a Shame that this isn't made clear. Casual observer might not notice. But it makes a world of difference to the effectiveness of each ship.
