There's plenty of moments of hand-drawn animation in Unicorn, especially _of_ the Unicorns. They just use the 3D model for transformation shots and very specific, very slow scenes
Despite being the first animated Unicorn project, there are 2 notable differences with the eventual Theatrical OVA/Short Film series that adapted the novels: 1. The Unicorn is depicted largely in 2D animation like with other Gundam entries Katoki contributed to (Mobile Suit Victory Gundam and Wing: Endless Waltz). In the OVA/Short series, it is depicted in both 2D and Cel-Shaded 3D animation so we could get a good glimpse at the Unicorn's transformation. and 2. The background music is very much in the style of the old Universal Century shows and SEED with a fully orchestral and symphonic sound. The OVA/Short series bought on a guy named Hiroyuki Sawano to compose the music and it sounds like a combination of symphonic orchestra and mechanical techno. Also, Sawano's work ditched any form of Opening theme song in favour of instrumental work, unlike his (inevitable) later work on the franchise. Literally, the closest thing to a traditional theme song plays at the end of each entry and even then there are different songs for each episode.
The guy's a legend in the industry in his own right for a long time. I didn't get why I resonated with unicorn's music so much until I learned who the composer was.
What I find most interesting about this version of the Unicorn in the PV is that the shield is almost always in Unicorn Mode and only expands into Destroy Mode whenever it’s being used for defense, not to mention the reddish tint of the armor in Destroy Mode, its red thruster effects, and the Unicorn Mode’s blue eyes
Since this is technically a preview for the Gundam UC novels before the ova came out, it basically follows Hajime Katoki's original design on the Unicorn Gundam, more specifically his early design of the Unicorn because that one had the blue unicorn mode eyes as well as a unicorn mode shield in its destroy mode
Fun fact, in the series the unicorn gundam and his brothers are very powerfull, but the actual line of kits, specially the real grade line are quite delicates at some joints
0:08 What type of Jegan is that? It looks like an OG Jegan from CCa in Jegan D Type colors with the F91 shield. Definitely not Type A2 because of the vulcan,shoulders, and othrr details. Probably a prototype design that was never used? Maybe that was the original design for the Jegan D Type. EDIT: Upon rewatch, I noticed it had a D Type styled backpack at least for the vernier arm joints.
@@17.m.fahimnasih40 I know right, it's so visually distracting when there's poorly used 3d. I have an idea that they won't use for the movie, use a new perfect grade design and make the live action adaptation partially stop motion
@@17.m.fahimnasih40 lets hope they actually look good, and don't float around weightlessly, also low angel shots like in the first episode of the series to give a sense of scale. that'd be awesome, unlike pacific rim 2. also let's hope they keep the natzi illusions to wwii and the such, not toning it down for modern super sensitive audiences. possibly an MA15+? unlikely, but I can always hope.

このPVを当時見てたとき、多分アニメ化するだろうな。ナレーションも池田さんなうえフロンタルの台詞を言ってるから絶体フロンタルは池田さんだろな。って思ってて、その1年後ほどに本当にアニメ化する&フロンタルが池田さんと聞いたときは凄く嬉しかった。

I love the way unicorn lurches and pulls as it tries to break out of the docking stand, very reminiscent of evangelion

As far as I know, UC Gundam docking stands do not hold down the Mobile Suit like in Evangelion. So it's a little weird to see Unicorn do it
