i love enemies to lovers but i really had a problem with lucy. i don’t want to offend anyone but i was so bothered by the importance of her height. it seems her entire personality is based on being cute and tiny and her character lacked depth in my opinion.
Yes!! I felt like I was reading a really popular wattpad story. I can’t understand how so many people like this so much! Was so disappointed Great video!
bro i agree with every single thing u said and the amount of “look at me and how small and cute and tiny i am i’m so ashamed 😖🥺” made me cringe into oblivion
I was annoyed that I never found out about the job , I was like what. And I wanted to know more about her family. Like I feel like so much of the things in the book could’ve been left put because they were boring and unnecessary I also hated the way she described her ex! Like was the necessary to emphasize how big Josh is, like that was a messed up mindset
I just finished this book today, also based on the high praise it got from so many people on social media as well as reviews. I'm glad to have found this video because I thought there was something wrong with me for leaning towards the unpopular opinion about this book. Honestly, I felt like their relationship started off rushed, and the kiss in the elevator that started it all was a little random; the way they began their relationship felt unnatural. I completely agree that the story was predictable. I thought it was weir that I caught everything coming such as who sent Lucy the roses and that the bride was going to end up being the ex girlfriend. At the end of the book, it felt incomplete to me in a way. I suppose one could argue that it ended on a happy high point and there was no need to further the storytelling and it's left up to the reader to decide what happens, but I would have loved the author's take on a lot of the storylines she left open. I was very sad there was not a portion in the story where Lucy finally gets to pitch her idea to get the promotion. I understand in a way that there was no need since Josh stepped down and Lucy was a shoe in, but it still felt like something that was just as important to the story as their relationship was, and it was never concluded. Also I would have loved to know if Lucy and Josh ever got to go to her family's farm, if Josh and his dad ever started to build a better relationship, how Josh dealt with Lucy and Danny's relationship. It just felt like there were so many great storylines running parallel to the one regarding their relationship, and only one was ever resolved.
It was so frustrating that the whole point of this story was that they were going up against each other for a promotion and we don't even know what happened to Lucy with the promotion at the end!!
@@alexandrawenner2726 I remember doing the exact same!!! What was the point!! Why give her the man and not just confirm she got the job too?! I cared more about the job and her presentation than Josh 😂
thank you!!! I just saw sooo many problems here and I couldn’t get past it. I genuinely couldn’t see how this was rated so highly. I’m glad others liked the book but definitely wasn’t for me. I feel like i was reading something on wattpad titled “my sexy mean coworker” 😂. I agree that Pride and Prejudice and red white and royal blue did a lot better of a job with enemies to lovers.
There were soooo many problems! I wish I could understand why people loved it so much aside from the writing being funny at times. Hahaha I probably would've preferred it if it were a wattpad work 😂
I just started the video and I agree about Enemies to Lovers! The reasons they’re enemies is always either really ridiculous or could be solved with a conversation. It’s just toxic and not the kind of relationship I’d ever want to be in! I far prefer friends to lovers, fake dating, or strangers to lovers
Yes! I prefer those as well. Usually there is a reason people are enemies! I also don't mind if they were friends then became enemies because of a falling out, then find their way back to each other.
I'm so glad this video exists, I had such high hopes going into this because I typically don't like romance novels but this one had so many good reviews that I really expected something good. But this whole story was so flat, so toxic, superficial and unbearable. The only plot lines were overused tropes and the characters only existed of stereotypes. I got to the final chapter and I was so annoyed and bored of it that I didn't bother finishing it, which almost never happens. This was such a disappointment ..
Yeah, I like the "hate to love" trope if it's like Pride and Prejudice, where they thought the other person was a jerk, but they were wrong, not that there are legit reasons to dislike each other like the book you describe. I'll skip this.
I liked the beginning of it but then it got so sexual out of nowhere and I was like agh! I don’t want to know this, I don’t need the details, it’s too sexual, I thought this book was gonna be a comedy , I had to skip like have the pages in this book
Yooo I really liked your review. You really opened my eyes up to a lot of problems this book had. I personally enjoyed the book to an extent but I'm enjoying reading and hearing different perspectives.
The intense love for this book has truly baffled me. I am not a big rom com fan in general but I have definitely found some that I’m a fan of, and they are usually extremely popular. But THIS!?!? This is childish and obnoxious and just... so stupid? I think the premise is great but that’s about it. More rants please! 😃
i honestly have mixed feelings about this. like it seems like such a cute roommate at first but on the other side their love story just seems kinda toxic. there were moments where i just wanted to hug the book and smile but there were also moments where id like to throw it across the room. this book is also very poorly written. i always got confused about the dialogue and who is saying what. also the sex scenes were also very poorly written like i had absolutely no idea what the heck was happening. the whole storyline of it was also like so cliche… like she’s the sunshine girl with the happy life and nice parents and he’s the grumpy alpha male with a f-ed up family and a sad/dark past. as well as the whole office romance and the kissing in the elevator. but like can we just talk about how weird and toxic they act?? like when lucy talks about her last relationships and compares them to joshua, saying how small and scrawny they were and how big and muscular joshua is. joshua is also like so creepy like who paints their wall the color of their crush’s eyes… and he keeps everything that has her freaking touch on it. also lucy’s character is literally the definition of cute and quirky like girl we get it you’re tiny and small and cute.. another thing id like to mention is that it left me completely unsatisfied. i want to know what happened with lucy’s job, i wanna see joshua meet her parents. I WANNA SEE THEM GET MARRIED AND HAVE CHILDREN. but instead it ended in them saying they love each other which was pretty dang obvious from the start of the dang book. also a major plot of the story was lucy and josh’s competition for the promotion but the book doesn’t even show lucy presenting the project she has been working in for literally years, and it doesn’t even show her getting the job!! this book was definitely a page turner that left me HOOKED like i finished this book in two days but honestly it has so many things wrong with it i cant even mention it all in this comment haha. ALSO I LOVE YOU GIRL THANKS FOR THIS REVIEW
You took the words right out of my mouth. I felt the same way about all of this. And did you notice the use of the r word toward the end? I was honestly so confused coming into this book and realising pretty early on that I wasn’t enjoying it when it had been so highly recommended. At least it was an easy read and I could finish it quickly!
It was an easy read but there were still so many problems! I don't remember seeing the r word in it but I have read a few reviews that mentioned that. I wonder if it was edited out in other editions or if I was skimming through it and just didn't notice!
I dont mind some enemies-to-lover in certain contexts, for example i liked it in “Red White and Royal Blue”. But this does not sound good at all. I will not read any romance that does not romanticise consent. I hate any media/book that portrays grown adults like they don’t know right from wrong. I hate toxic relationships omg. It infuriates me to no end lol. Im trusting your review on this book because all your points seem very valid! Also big men should be written as gentle giants not serial killer-esque. And who cares what size people are! Size-difference troop is way over done. Its cute sometimes but people need to chill with it
Oh yeah! Red, White, and Royal Blue did it well! Neither of them were toxic and once the enemies aspect was over, they were great together and had good communication! Yes! I'm so tired of excuses being made for why men can act this way. Let's hold them to a higher standard and stop romanticizing bullies.
First off, your video was so entertaining to watch! I loved this review even though I, overall, did enjoy this book. This being one of the first romance novels I've ever read, I easily got swept up in the romance of it all, that it wasn't until after I finished and the excitement wore off that I really started to think about the problems. Josh did show gross signs of possessiveness, and yeah the way he acted towards Danny was stupid. One thing I never could make sense of was why Josh acted for so long as if he hated Lucy. I can totally believe that Lucy "hates" him just because she thinks he hates her, but I can't reason why Josh would go so long acting like he didn't like her when he was drawn to her from their first meeting. Maybe he was unsure if she felt the same, but that's not the vibe I got from his character. Idk, there's definitely issues, but I still enjoyed it and swooned at the end. I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Hi there :) I'm sorry it took me so long to reply to your comment! I'm so glad that you enjoyed it for the most part! I still don't understand Josh's rationale for pretending like he hated Lucy the whole time either haha. Someone else mentioned wishing they had Josh's POV and I think that might have been a nice touch to have with this book to understand why he made some of the choices he did.
22:58 omg as a 5’ woman I’ve spent so much of my teen years and even into adult life, having people comment on my height and my height difference compared to partners as if being short and cute is the only interesting thing about me.
To be honest, I have read fanfictions that are better written than this...Lucy is boring, Joshua is irredeemable alpha male, plot is not exciting, side characters are stupid or none exciting....
Oh my god thank you!!!! I don't get why this book is soooo highly rated hahahaha I had almost the same problems as you!! like the elevator scene?? I also thought like uhhhh this is harassment?? I 100% agree with everything you saiddd, you forgot the thing about Josh's walls being Lucy's eye color? Like how is that cute? I'd be like dude what? DO YOU NEED ANYMORE RED FLAGS? I also thought Lucy was super annoying and dramatic and SO CHILDISH!! hahah I'm kinda sad you didn't comment on the sex tho cause I thought it was so weird and like not at all cute or hot, I was laughing the entire time I read through it. I also kinda thought the love "story" just wasn't there even though the book as almost 400 pages. Like they hated each other and out of nowhere they're obsessed and all over each other, I was kinda like did I miss something?? I also gave it two stars for the same reasons, like I laughed at certain parts but ya, great review!
Ok so I read some of the comments here and it's funny how people forget that writers are amazing because they actually have to energy and courage to put a story together. Us readers can either love, hate or not give a damn. I particularly liked this story, overall it had fun and engaging content that piqued my interest and kept me coming back to it. I saw that some of you here in the comments didn't like that the author mentioned Lucy's height so much and made such a big deal about it. I am 5'2'' and don't mind my height, but I know people who are actually bothered by this. and so Lucy is one of them. another point that I don't understand why it bothered some of you, is the fact that Lucy was trashing the "tall blonde" haha, well come on, we all have people we don't like because they are so different from ourselves... In this case the complete opposite of a short brunette, what do you think it is? right... Well, I hope most of you enjoyed the plot and drempt of their own office romance!
I think the point the other comments were trying to make about the height and blonde girls’ mention overload wasn’t exactly that it was mentioned so frequently but WHY it was mentioned so much in the first place. If, as you suggested, the author wished to explore Lucy’s insecurities about her height or her hair colour, and the way she is perceived because of them, then I think her goal would have been more obvious. It would have been thrown about in scenes to purposely make us question Lucy’s beliefs, why she has them, why she is saying all that. But the topic was never raised but to be funny or make the reader sympathize with Lucy. Sadly, the truth is that Lucy, and the entire book in general, was very shallow and many themes it could have touched were left unexplored. The characters don’t get any arcs, so if the author was really trying to make a point through the mentions, they weren’t successful. The height thing seemed more like blind cliché-worship and the blond girls hate was just bad writing, with a sprinkle of unjustified stereotyping. P.S. This is not to cast shame on people who liked the book, obviously. People have different tastes and opinions, and it’s beautiful to share them. :)
Thank you for saving my time! I'm more of a non-fiction reader but I throw in some fiction books in my reading list for variety. I'm a sucker for enemies to lovers trope and this book gets recommended a lot. But damn it really did feel like I was reading a typical wattpad story. If I maybe 10 years younger, I would have probably enjoyed it. I was so ready to switch to a non-fiction book but can't because of FOMO lol so I'm glad I found your video, you provided a great summary that I no longer feel the need to finish this book :D
I have to say I agree with you. I wasn't cheering for Josh and Lucy at all. I thought Josh was way too jealous and could often be too aggressive. After I started watching your video, I learned a lot more things. You told a very clear story and your opinion makes sense to me.
I'm so glad you found this video! 😊 This is one of the romance books I feel could've benefited from the male's POV because then maybe I would've understood Josh a little more. Or maybe I would've just hated him more 😂
i was so flummoxed as to why this book is so popular? i was looking for a trashy, trope-y book so the bar was LOW, but i was ??? this felt like a better edited Wattpad book but even less enjoyable lmao
I completely agree!! I was thinking all the same stuff while reading this book. Lucy seemed more in love with Josh’s body the whole time with all her comments objectifying him and I feel like that’s why she just went along with the elevator thing at the beginning
it felt so cliche and almost like a middle school romance. the characters hate each other for literally no reason and act so immature in a workplace like what ???? and then it felt so rushed because the enemies phase lasted like two pages. the character development is all over the place.
So glad I found a review that shares the same opinions I had towards this book! I'm halfway through her latest book (the first 2 chapters seemed like something I would actually enjoy) until I ran into the same flaws I felt were in THG 😬
I guess different people have different preferences. I respect your views and completely understand how you feel about this book. To be honest, ‘sexist’ never crossed my mind and I actually enjoyed this book. It was interesting to find out how others view this book and I hope that in the future, you might learn to like some of Thorne’s works. I wish You all the best:)
I cannot express how much I appreciate this comment. Thank you for being so kind about our differing views. I'm so glad this was a book you were able to enjoy. 💙
I really disliked the book but I do love the movie! I feel like in the movie they did a better job of showing how Josh never hated Lucy, he was just very reserved and didn't want to get hurt again. The book in my opinion spent too much time inside Lucy's head where she basically bickered with herself.
20:50!!!! I have been listening to this book on tape. This was literally the moment that I am done! I tried I really did. I could not handle the toxicity and manipulative remarks and actions anymore. I’m so glad you told the rest of the story because it seems I’m not missing anything worth my time. Thank you !
I’m here because I thought the reason why Lucy hates Joshua is lame. Please tell me I’m not the only one. Guys, does the book get any better ? (Currently on page 50)…
I never watched this video when you first posted it because I still wanted to read this book and didn't want outside forces to mess with my feelings of the book, if that makes sense??? lol anyway I just tried to read it and could barely get 60 pages in before dnfing the book. It was just one big yikes after another, I definitely agree with everything you've said!
I’m so glad I found this video. I was seriously starting to think I was crazy because I couldn’t even finish the book. I think with more writing, the author can really blossom, but this book just wasn’t it. And how is this getting a movie???
I agree! Her writing style was probably the part I liked most about the book. It was a really readable story but had too many red flags for me to find it an enjoyable read!
this is my all time favourite contemporary romance novel of all time, love it so much - i feel like people who don't like the book focus too much on the plot and not enough on the psychology of the main characters
i actually hated the guy so much throughout the book, the girl was boring and the sex had me zoning out. the characters were the worst part for me. but people have different tastes
I do understand the smile thing. It’s like you’re friendly with someone and they don’t respond to it. It happens to me and I understand it. And the other things you talked about, I somehow agree, but the thing is it didn’t stop from enjoying the rest, especially the ending. It just made me give 4 stars instead of 5.
I recently finished ‘Shipped’ which is described as “The Hating Game meets Unhoneymooners”. Everyone should do themselves a favor and read that instead. It does the enemies to lovers plot SOOOOO much more justice than the lackluster snoozer that is THG.
I've read the book 6 times and i loved it, but the comments are making me look at it way differently. I definitely get where you're coming from too! To me, the whole height difference thing was really weird. She mentioned it like what, 3 billion times? Idk I just got a weird vibe from it. And what does she have against tall blond women? There's no need to bring others down to make yourself feel/look better? This was kind of an eye opener for me, thanks! ;)
I have read this book rapidly I did not very much focus on how he forced himself on her sometimes but now that you verbalized it omg you're right. I think the worst part is that she romanticizes that kind of behaviour. We are looking at the story from Lucy's perceptive tho and the way Lucy thinks not the author. Lucy is a character who fulfills all the kinks she never thought she had. I hate how she was just magically accepted and loved in the family to the point where she got between Josh and his DAD. And that was somehow okay! Josh's dad spends his entire life mistreating his child and after one speech from Lucy that was in my opinion still very badly placed is convinced and even apologises. I agree on everything you said. We have the same perspective except for the friends to lovers preference but I mean that's a preference. I still enjoyed the book it was captivating. It just felt more like a fanfiction than an actual book. I learned nothing from it. I felt like it served no actual purpose, no deep meaning. No under text to look out for when reading between the lines. But it was fun in a very messed up way.
I ranted about this book in my November wrap-up and Nat mentioned your video so I had to check it out! Love how you discussed this!! I also had to underline the parts I hated lol.
I read this book a long time ago. And HATED it. I seriously cannot see anyone enjoying this and the hype surrounding it makes me hate it even more. I loved your rant and your vibe. Subscribed for more videos from you ❤
When I hear people talk about how amazing it is I feel like I got a bad version of this book. I could understand if people thought it was a fun story but nothing very memorable but for it to be some people's favorite romance??? I am very confused by that.
thePMreader hmm I enjoyed it but I think that’s just because I didn’t really analyze it too much as it is just a rom com meant to please the masses. They’re definitely things that’s didn’t make sense but overall it was entertaining to read in my opinion
oop I love enemies to lovers but it’s prly just the pride and prejudice stan within me. Never heard about this book but I enjoyed listening to your thoughts.
I read Pride and Prejudice for the first time this year and I thought that the enemies to lovers in that was done SO WELL. I wish this trope was written more like that was 😊
I know I'm late for this but thank you. I feel so frustrated that everyone seems to love this book despite the disturbing red flags. I give it a chance but all I could think was this is not what a love story looks like. It's crazy how Lucy had a normal life before that kiss and the rest of the book she acts like a zombie to the point where he can say and do the worst things and she'll be talking about his hard boner. Can we talk about how he barely has a relationship with her and he undresses her while she is unconscious with fever? He just do whatever he wants. He is also very rude and mean with people that have done nothing and she doesn't have an opinion on him BECAUSE HE IS HOT. I also found extremely annoying how much this girl talks trash about herself all the time in ways that she manages to ALSO insult other women in the "I'm not like other girls" tipe of shit. The part where he says she was on his couch the previous night in front of Danny making her uncomfortable and putting her job in danger. I would honestly set up an intervention for this poor blind creature that can't stop reminding us all that she is small.
today, i read the first two chapters of the book and skipped to the epilogue. i donʼt know much about what they went through but it seemed like he hurt her?? idk what type though. but overall, it was honestly sweet and i had butterflies. but i really couldnʼt overlook the fact that josh was kinda like... obsessed with lucy 😭😭😭 idk. it was a bit creepy ngl.
I'm glad I saw this video before finishing the book. Thank you for this review💜 Well, guess who's not going to continue reading it. Hehehehe I'm in chapter 5 and I am really confuse why I don't find the book really interesting just how others would describe it.
sociological analysis is actually necessary on things exactly like this because their popular and the subliminal messaging impacts the way people see things. also lmao a guy being an asshole isn’t sociological it simply makes the character unlikeable. people are not allowed to like things lmao
I read the first chapter when it first came out and it didn't appeal at all. I recently saw the amount of reviews it has on Amazon and wondered if I'd given up too quickly. Read to chapter 7 and just... meh
Thank god a reviewer who didn't like this book either. I read this a week ago because I kept hearing how it's such a good enemies to lovers story and that trope is my brand so I decided to read it. But I just couldn't click with Lucy and Josh at all. I disliked it right away because imo it's not enemies to lovers if at some point one character hasn't tried to at least kill the other lol. But since it's a contemporary romance not a fantasy book I thought there would be a good enough reason for them to hate each other in the beginning but there just wasn't. When Lucy reveals she hates Josh because *he didn't smile back at her when they first met???* That was such a flimsy reason it took me out of the story from the start. Also one of my biggest pet peeves in romance is when the author constantly brings up how small the protagonist is. The fact Lucy was always mentioning how short she was was so annoying. I too hated the way she always thinks of how short she is yet turns around and thinks disparagingly about her ex who was at least 6 inches taller than her ugh. Another pet peeve is when the female protagonist has internalized misogyny. Like Lucy always brings up how friendly and thoughtful she is and yet she doesn't have any friends??? Or how she kind of looks down on her mom for giving up her career to marry her dad and even asks her mom why yet that conversation never gets fully resolved either. And Josh ugh other than his jealousy he had no depth at all he was just a shitty communicator. He would've been more interesting if he started out actually wanting that promotion only to end up falling for Lucy, instead of him saying he was in love with her from the start. There was just no reason for us, the reader, to like and root for him. Sorry for the rant but I've been holding it back for like a week lol.
I'm just coming from the sneak preview. Guess, what movie I saw. The movie - or better - the story is on soooooooo many levels so bad, silly, unlogical and/or straight up ethically questionable. The movie was so formulaic. The novel has its issues and its obsessions, too. Neither the movie or the novel have well rounded characters - they were all quite toxic. It seems like they tried to spin doctor the movie, because the novel seems to be even worse. Like E.L. James started Fifty Shades of Grey as a Twilight fan fic, this seemed to me as a fan fic for Bridget Jones’s Diary or something. (If you guys know, which book/movie is more fitting, then give me a hint) Still, there's a good thing. I want to wirte a novel, that takes the piss out of that story, the way stuff gets narrated and the way sex and sexuality is regarded.
I haven't read the book, but God, I just watched the movie. I hated it. it is so annoying. I never rooted for these characters ones. It is so frustrating. one moment they are saying nice things about each other, and the next minutes they are hating and being petty. umm what?
🤣 If you have never experienced Lust to the highest levels then yeah, this story is not for you. Its fantasy kink for women who have married for like 10+ years.
“all the girls are chatting and all the men are.. reading newspapers at the table.. cause you know, we’re in the fifties.” i BURST OUT LAUGHING at this. you are hilarious and i love your entire vibe. subscribed!
iʼm not really good at detecting whether certain behaviors are red flags or not so listening to this book rant has really enlighted me. like, holy shit. youʼre right! why have i never thought about that before.
i love enemies to lovers but i really had a problem with lucy. i don’t want to offend anyone but i was so bothered by the importance of her height. it seems her entire personality is based on being cute and tiny and her character lacked depth in my opinion.
I completely agree! The importance of height was too much in that book.
omg SO true, everytime she mentions how short and quirky she is I want to kms. Plus she kept body shaming her ex-bfs for being short??????like wtf
I completely agree!!!
she was like a pick me girl .. like okay girly ur small is there anything else ....
Yeah, almost like she was trying to play up a height difference kink.
I found it creepy him painting his bedroom the color of her eyes LMAOOOO like huh??? Isn’t that sociopath behavior???
SO CREEPY
@shirbert can you explain how it's ableist?
That and the fact he marked when she wore a skirt or a dress????!!! Like GIRL RUN WHAT
@@medyamnv2236 its not
i agree completely, the main reason i hated it was because of the size difference kink! i'm so glad i dnf'd it!
That was such a frustrating part to the book. After about the first 5 times of hearing they had a size difference, I wanted to rip my hair out hah.
Yes!! I felt like I was reading a really popular wattpad story. I can’t understand how so many people like this so much! Was so disappointed
Great video!
Seriously!! I was so letdown by it!

Yes!! I totally agree. Lucy's life was completely a mystery. And the weird fixation with size was annoying to read!
Right?!! If the promotion was so important, why did we know nothing about it

SO OVER IT! It's not cute or romantic. I don't know why people enjoy reading about it. It makes me feel icky.
This was basically an alpha male fetish.

@@thePMreader It's SOOOO good. Took me about halfway through to really get into it, but then I read the rest all in one sitting.
I enjoyed ur review more than the book. U literally voiced my thoughts
Hahah this made me smile. This book was just not a good fit for me. So many problems 😬
I liked the beginning of it but then it got so sexual out of nowhere and I was like agh! I don’t want to know this, I don’t need the details, it’s too sexual, I thought this book was gonna be a comedy , I had to skip like have the pages in this book
Hahah! I personally thought the sexual aspects to this book were not well written either. 😅
I agree! At the beginning I thought the book was sooo good but then suddenly it just became extremely sexual. It was very TMI
Yess !! I gave it a 4 stars Instead of 5 just because of the sexual parts
Yess!! It's so stupid and childish. I would love to see some books actually do this well and not make both characters whiny, jealous adults.
I had the same experience. I’ve read better fanfics
i honestly have mixed feelings about this. like it seems like such a cute roommate at first but on the other side their love story just seems kinda toxic. there were moments where i just wanted to hug the book and smile but there were also moments where id like to throw it across the room.
this book is also very poorly written. i always got confused about the dialogue and who is saying what. also the sex scenes were also very poorly written like i had absolutely no idea what the heck was happening.
the whole storyline of it was also like so cliche… like she’s the sunshine girl with the happy life and nice parents and he’s the grumpy alpha male with a f-ed up family and a sad/dark past. as well as the whole office romance and the kissing in the elevator.
but like can we just talk about how weird and toxic they act?? like when lucy talks about her last relationships and compares them to joshua, saying how small and scrawny they were and how big and muscular joshua is. joshua is also like so creepy like who paints their wall the color of their crush’s eyes… and he keeps everything that has her freaking touch on it. also lucy’s character is literally the definition of cute and quirky like girl we get it you’re tiny and small and cute..
another thing id like to mention is that it left me completely unsatisfied. i want to know what happened with lucy’s job, i wanna see joshua meet her parents.
Let's hold them to a higher standard and stop romanticizing bullies.
thePMreader Exactly! I am not here for excusing toxic masculinity in 2020
First off, your video was so entertaining to watch!
That's so frustrating. Why are height differences such a big deal? Where did that even start? 🤔
@@thePMreader the author and her husband have the same height difference, maybe that's why it's mentioned a lot?
like a 100 mentions of how small she is like stfu its getting weird
Also there was some part of him going like I'm gonna need days and all with you when they finally have sex that was like so laughable
I'm glad I could help!! I agree. If I read it 10 years ago I probably would have thought it was so good.
I have to say I agree with you. I wasn't cheering for Josh and Lucy at all. I thought Josh was way too jealous and could often be too aggressive.
After I started watching your video, I learned a lot more things. You told a very clear story and your opinion makes sense to me.
Thank you very much! I wish I could've liked this book but it shocked me with how many problems I found with it.
i just read around 65 pages and got bored and landed here...thank u soo much for saving my time...in the start, I was waiting for josh pov too lolz
I'm so glad you found this video! 😊 This is one of the romance books I feel could've benefited from the male's POV because then maybe I would've understood Josh a little more. Or maybe I would've just hated him more 😂
You are right, I agree with some of your points. Just finished it and I had some weird thoughts about it too.
I had high hopes for the book but it just was not what I expected it to be!
i was so flummoxed as to why this book is so popular? i was looking for a trashy, trope-y book so the bar was LOW, but i was ??? this felt like a better edited Wattpad book but even less enjoyable lmao
I'm really intrigued to see how much more I'll like the movie than the book 😂
FINALLY i didnt like it 😭 i just finished the last chapters i wanted to cry and cringe at the same time i was so over it
There were so many yikes in this book!! It was sooo tough to get through. I'm glad you chose to DNF instead of deal with it 😂
I’m so glad I found this video.
BEST. 27 mins and 6 secs I’ve spent on Booktube. THANK U 😊 👏👏
Thank you for watching!! 😊
this is my all time favourite contemporary romance novel of all time, love it so much - i feel like people who don't like the book focus too much on the plot and not enough on the psychology of the main characters
iluvSchleeping I’m glad that you got enjoyment out of this one and found a favorite!
i actually hated the guy so much throughout the book, the girl was boring and the sex had me zoning out. the characters were the worst part for me. but people have different tastes
read 70 pages and dnf'd it, it just felt like a wattpad book, very poorly written.
I loved this review and glad other people feel the same way I did. It was extremely hyped and I was just disappointed. :/
I was totally disappointed too! With the love everyone seems to have for this book I was almost certain I'd read the wrong one 😬
I'm so happy I'm not the only one who thinks this. I'm only a few pages in but the whole time, I was just angry lol
Honestly!! I don't get the love for this book.
This was kind of an eye opener for me, thanks! ;)
Thanks for the thorough review, was about to buy the book, now im searching for another RomCom novels, any suggestion?
So far I’ve really liked the books I’ve read by Emily Henry, Talia Hibbert, and Ali Hazelwood. 💗
I'm sorry it's taken me forever to reply back! I honestly don't get the love for this book! Both characters were honestly so frustrating!
I’m just glad that I’m not the only one who disliked this book. It’s very overhyped and I’m disappointed that I don’t enjoy it
Soooooo glad I am not the only one who found this book a total bore… way overrated.
If you have problems with the book i wonder aboit the movie
I started this book and had a feeling I wasn’t gonna like it. Glad I came across this bc now I know not to even waste my time lol
I wish this trope was written more like that was 😊
Love this. We don't need to always focus on the good parts of books!
I agree! Some books just aren't good fits for us 😊
Love you and your review. I felt mad after reading this book too. It is too narrow-minded and judgemental for me!
It had a few funny parts but overall this book was bad and I thought it was just me but I literally agreed with every point you made.
I agree! There were a few jokes that I did laugh at but the negatives outweighed the positives for me on this one.
I think they were both weirdly obsessed with each other!
i personally like this book but i 100% respect your opinion
I thought it was slightly boring
I'm glad I saw this video before finishing the book. Thank you for this review💜
Well, guess who's not going to continue reading it. Hehehehe I'm in chapter 5 and I am really confuse why I don't find the book really interesting just how others would describe it.
I’m halfway through this book right now and I really don’t even want to finish it 😭 I saw so many good reviews but I feel it was very overhyped
Totally overhyped! Did you end up powering through?
I'm at the same point and I am not going finish. All these reviews have just confirmed what I've been thinking. I'm not crazy.
This video makes me feel sane again
The fact that she was cheating on her bf the hold time made this movie more not okay
Your review gave me all the good emotions this book failed to deliver😂😂😂
I loved this book! I don't understand why anyone wouldn't like it.

@@diya-hn2wy I thought he was fun.
@@diya-hn2wyI am known for having terrible taste in men though, lol.
@@rhondahunt8080 lol but anyway its all personal taste, I just find the whole jealous guy thing unattractive
@@diya-hn2wy I understand that. It can cause a lot of problems.
It's really not that serious? Like, it's a stock standard chick lit book - I don't feel like there is some sort of sociological analysis to be made.
Mima D I’m glad you enjoyed the book!
yet you actively landed here, which means you sought out this type of video. Take your own advice 😒
sooo people arent allowed to critique it just because its a lighthearted 'chicklit' book? that makes no sense
sociological analysis is actually necessary on things exactly like this because their popular and the subliminal messaging impacts the way people see things. also lmao a guy being an asshole isn’t sociological it simply makes the character unlikeable. people are not allowed to like things lmao
I read the first chapter when it first came out and it didn't appeal at all. I recently saw the amount of reviews it has on Amazon and wondered if I'd given up too quickly. Read to chapter 7 and just... meh
Right?! I'm still baffled that so many people adore it. I guess I read it through a different lens.
This book is so shallow and bad oh god I'm not gonna read the last 100 pages honestly
Honestly, if you're not enjoying it now then the last 100 pages will just be unnecessary suffering! It gets very cringe.
(If you guys know, which book/movie is more fitting, then give me a hint)
Still, there's a good thing. I want to wirte a novel, that takes the piss out of that story, the way stuff gets narrated and the way sex and sexuality is regarded.
Yes thank you I hated this book for these very reasons 😆
It was such a frustrating book to read!
I haven't read the book, but God, I just watched the movie. I hated it. it is so annoying. I never rooted for these characters ones. It is so frustrating. one moment they are saying nice things about each other, and the next minutes they are hating and being petty. umm what?
I read 99 Percent Mine and disliked it. This sounds even worse lmao, even though it has a much higher average rating
omg... she did NOT call short men 'boys'. How do authors get away with this shit
How she got away with a lot of the choices she made in this book is beyond me 😭
🤣 If you have never experienced Lust to the highest levels then yeah, this story is not for you. Its fantasy kink for women who have married for like 10+ years.
Oh! Man! I thought it’s a great book. Happy to know
Some people really liked it but I couldn't accept some of the choices made!
Can I ask u recommend a new book but romantic and not sad (if u can recommend without smutt 😂)
Sim concordo, achei o livro uma porcaria... já o filme gostei um pouco mais por causa dos atores escolhidos que fizeram toda a diferença ..
I’m halfway through and don’t even know how I’m going to finish. It goes from one trope/cliche I hate to the next. 🤮
It's littered with cliches!
@@thePMreader absolutely. I rated it a 3 on GR but honestly I think I was being generous and I should knock it down to a 2.
I'm sorry you DON'T like enemies to lovers!?!?!?!?!?
I was enjoying it, however i noted some problematic things Lucy said. Got mad when she used the g slur:/ i want my money back lmao
wait it doesn't make any sense im saying i enjoyed but want my money back lol
I definitely would like money back for it as well haha. I'm glad you enjoyed parts of it though 😊
I loved this review! I finished this book yesterday and was so disappointed. The plot was interesting but everything from start to finish was stupid.
Yes! The plot sounded so good but the execution was very questionable to me. Both characters were a mess.
"you're like a beautiful racehorse"
I mean wtf was that line :(

iʼm not really good at detecting whether certain behaviors are red flags or not so listening to this book rant has really enlighted me. like, holy shit. youʼre right! why have i never thought about that before.
