Neil Gaiman read her, and everyone else Goodnight Moon, then the Hungry March Band played him happy birthday (which she had planned in secret as a surprise), and then she ended with this. I gave her a moonstone rock I carried around for positive energies and safe travel... God damn what night this was.
I dont really have the words for what I just experienced - even just watching it on youtube. My crappy chronically ill world stopped for a moment and there was just this and the memories it holds and im about to cry really hard. It shows incredible strength to bare your soul like that right when you have found out. Ash calling out for you killed me.
I have chronic illnesses too. Love music. I think there's something in my eye. Or maybe it's onions. Except I'm not chopping onions. I totally lost it listening to this.
I just realized what we've lost with Leonard Cohen. I heard the news but couldn't grasp it. another of the great gone. this is so sad. and yet, there is no other way to deal with this than remember the greatness and celebrate the Art. thank you, Amanda.
THIS!! My god this is why I love her! The raw emotion she has in her voice is amazing! Her voice isn't pretty in the way most people think of singer's voices being. It's so raw and real.
Amanda, you move me in ways that no one can. I feel allowed to feel my feelings in a world where most want to silence me. I had the privilege and honor to see "The Bed Show" while it ran, it forever changed me. Thank you for being who you are and doing what you do. I love you.

As moving as this whole performance of this special song goes, i think that raw action nearly moved the me most. Honesty, and a rendition full of beauty and grief. I've seen this performed 'technically' much better, but with a fraction of the soul here (though her playing style is still wonderful imo). This has been one of the most emotional and honest i've seen. With so much love and connection for the music and the man. THIS is art. THIS is live music. I remember this concert. Me, my youngest sibing (who was 17 at the time in case you were wondering), my older sister, and said older sister's now husband had arrived late and as we were entering Amanda said to the guy checking tickets at the door to let us in even if we had no tickets. And not long after we arrived the news was given to her about Cohen's death and it was so humanizing to see her expressing her grief so openly in front of the entire audience. I remember Neil comforting her, and us by proxy, by reading Good Night Moon and honestly despite the somber end I still enjoyed that concert.
Sometimes we are all blessed by being able to witness something as beautiful and mesmerizing as this performance. I believe Leonard would be quite honored to have someone turn his words into an experience that touches people souls. Thanks for sharing!
You are such an incredibly professional musician to have been able to recover from that grief and continue the show. It was a privilege and an honour to have been there to share that pain in the moment, and then watch you pull it together to pay homage to one of your songwriting heroes. I don't know if you remember me, but I was the "Coin Operated Hugger."
I see in Ash such a close tie with his mother, more than just blood tie, he has Amandas spirit in him and even not meeting him or ever seen his mother live, I swear I could feel this seen the way Ash cried and looked at his moomy on the corner.
