What do you think about the traditional flamenco posture (bottom of the guitar sitting on the right leg, no foot stool, no support)? I really like it both in terms of body health and fretboard access. However, one challenge it poses is a part of the weight of the fretboard falls on the left hand (at least occasionally). Do you have any thoughts and recommendation about this way of holding the guitar?
Hi! Thanks for commenting! It’s definitely more comfortable to play that way, but you’re right that when we need to do more intricate movements on the left-hand, it’s difficult to do so in that position. I prefer using a guitar support which still allows the guitar neck to be raised. The one I use is this one: amzn.to/4e9rqNH You just have to bend the movable arm a little bit so that you can use it on the right leg. If you see some of my other videos, you can see how I’ve done that. Thanks again!
Another question I have is about the angle of the guitar with your torso (the angle we'd see if we looked directly down from above). Could you clarify what this angle should be in each posture? For the flamenco positions I feel it's easier when the neck is about 45 degrees away from the body, but I'm not sure if I'm right.
Hi! This one is a little bit harder to answer because it’s a bit different for everybody. I would definitely try starting at about a 45° angle and then varying the position a little bit to find whatever feels most comfortable. Hope this helps!
Thank you for commenting! I have not tried that, but I’ll definitely take a look. I’ve had very much success and comfort with the ErgoPlay so I’ve been sticking to that one. 🙏🏽
When you have the guitar on your right leg, and you angle it downwards, are you also angling the neck so that the head is farther away from your left shoulder than the body of the guitar is to your right shoulder? In other words, if I could look at you from directly above, would the guitar be at an angle relative to the front of your torso, like this: _\, or would it be parallel to the front of your torso, like this: = ? I hope that makes sense.
Thanks for your comment! Yes, that’s exactly what I’m doing. I’m pushing the neck a little bit forward so that it helps my left wrist. Be a little bit straighter. 🙏🏽
Before bending the support, the guitar was unstable on my right leg. The weight of the guitar would always make the guitar slip on the suction cups. Bending the support allowed the weight of the guitar to be better distributed when I place the guitar on the right leg. I actually can use it on both legs this way.
another great lesson! thank you master yoda!!!!
Thank you! That was very helpful.
Thank you
Actually, good info for electric players too.

Have you tried the GuitarLift? Just curious.

@@DiegoAlonsoMusic awesome, thanks 🙏🏻
So...why dd you need to bend the support so as to use it on your right leg?

Hi, Diego the posture for a female guitar player is the same? I always wear trousers when I play my guitar.
Hi! Thanks so much for commenting! Yes, the posture for a female guitarist is exactly the same.
