She's not the worst pianist in the world, she's just a nervous young performer. She is playing the Prelude and Fugue No.2 in C minor by JS Bach in a critical environment. A colleague of mine is a concert pianist, and he messed up Bach, yet went on to perform brilliantly the original version of Rachmaninov's Second Piano sonata; so these things can happen to anyone. Bach is a nightmare to get back into if your memory lapses, because a lot of his music is "circular" and you can end up in the wrong "groove" so to speak.
Bach is a nightmare. When I started Grade 9 RCM, I played that exact Bach piece, along with a Chopin nocturne, I believe it was Op. 37 no 1. The key was definitely G minor. Anyway, without excessively practicing the nocturne, I nearly completely learned the piece in a week. The Bach, I hardly ever improved with lots of practice. I went back at it because I'm trying to get into University for music, and I chose that song as one of my pieces to play. I spent nearly an hour on one section with little to no progress. I know music takes time and energy. I haven't given up on it, and I have improved with the song because of dedication. My point is Bach can be a nightmare to play on Piano compared to Chopin or Debussy.
That's is so vile to turn someone's struggling like this into a public display. She is not a bad pianist and definitely not the world's worse. She was caught out by memory slips and panics, but she kept going - my hat off to her! Well done! Some nice moments there too

I hope she is still alive after having such a painful moment broadcast to the world and being described as the world's worst pianist. Mark Stevens, it is not your job to drive people to suicide. Have a heart!
I once fucked up a performance in front of about 200 people - I paused for about 10 seconds after forgetting where I was in the piece before saying out loud “I’m dead” and continuing playing. They heard it at the back. The thing is, I don’t even regret it.
I have a performance tomorrow and I have to go there without any practice for 2 days. I am so nervous. Because we can't afford a piano I only can practice once a week.
Botching a public performance has been a performer's worst nightmare for countless centuries. Only this century has the added prospect of humiliation on a far larger scale via TH-cam. Most of us enjoy bloopers, especially from established pros. But inviting public ridicule for students or other hopefuls having clearly nerve-induced meltdowns feels a bit mean-spirited. This "worst pianist in the world," who really is anything but, has only my sympathy. I can too easily see myself in her shoes.
You know that probably someone recorded this performance and put it on TH-cam for everyone to see right? It's not just the TH-camrs? The content needs to come from somewhere. Like...
PabloPeekaboo Exactly! All these people are so stupid. What else are they gonna judge on. It would be so unorthodox to start judging on something else that has nothing to do with the score and the way it’s supposed to be played. Play freely on your own time if you want.
To be really honest the mistakes are probably due to lack of practice and overconfidence.. but calling her the worst is kinda mean although the performance is indeed, quite horrible
Please keep your cruel and merciless judgment to yourself! Pianists in a competition are always under tremendous pressure, and she could have had an anxiety attack. There could be a number of different reasons why she played the way she did and she probably felt pretty bad already. There is absolutely no need to add insult to her injury!! Imagine if you had a bad day and sounded like that...AND someone posts it on TH-cam and call it the worst pianist ever! How would that make you feel?
Girl, I'm waiting to see your video of playing so wonderfully the same piece in front of an even larger audience and take a bow for a thunderous applause. You will do it.
First of all the fact that you had the audacity to post something like this on youtube -a misrepresentation of the pianist basically-just to "get views" is truly disgusting . Of course it wasn't a good performance, but from the very first second of the video you can tell she's extremely nervous. As a piano student myself having gone through somewhat of the same situation, I can tell you that you cannot realize how stressful it is when your mind suddenly has a blank during a performance unless you experience it yourself . Secondly the title "worst" is truly something you should never use, ESPECIALLY when talking about the arts or sports, as it is disrespectful towards the performer who worked hard for a goal, that he/she unfortunately did not achieve for some reasons. So go practice your music instrument yourself instead of laughing at a performance just for your own leisure
That's a cruel comment. She wasn't ready for this performance, OK, I'll go along with that. She's young enough to get over this if people would not beat up on her.
Alan Ledezma Had no knowledge of what level this recital was held at. Had assumed it to be early amateur. If it was advanced international competition, I hope she has found a nice job somewhere.
Hmmm. Who published this? Shame on you. 👌 she's good compare to me when I had my first exam at school on the piano and I totally failed in it. I quite and got up.
yeah that's true. the road to success is ridden with failure. we shouldn't be publicly humiliating her but instead give constructive feedback and help. she's definitely not the worst, but not the best either. that's okay, because with time and effort and ENCOURAGEMENT, she can definitely become a better pianist.
She’s actually quite decent, and perhaps a great pianist for keeping the show going. Good on her! This one isn’t easy. Don’t let stuff like this get in the way of doing what you love, you can move mountains if you work hard enough.
Sounds like my practising! It could happen to anyone! I would wait a litle longer before putting myself forward for an international piano competition though!
The comments section here is really warming me. I perform recitals and this has happened to me multiple times. I fear it so much. Being judged and laughed at. And it's happened. I know exactly how this pianist must feel and making a video like this is quite possibly the worst thing you could ever do to her. It takes so much gut to push on, especially in the way she did. When I see this, all I see is a warrior. I stand by her and look up to her.
She is far from the “worst pianist in the world.” What are you talking about? She makes a few errors. So what? How many of you can do what she’s doing?
sounded kinda good for me and also for many others , I hope that girl had enjoy and still enjoying every moment she plays the piano while she's beating up all her fears, that's the most important thing to do between a human being and the art.
Not her best day and obviously not well prepared, but on her worst day she is still better than most who would humiliate her. My heart goes out to her.
1835, Chopin : “The crowd intimidates me, its breath suffocates me, I feel paralyzed by its curious look, and the unknown faces make me dumb.” “Concerts are never real music” “You have to give up the idea of hearing in them the most beautiful things of art.”
Man.. imagine being super nervous while performing and did badly.. just when you thought the nightmare ended there... a person had posted the full video on youtube with a title that says 'worst.....'. Crazy
Mark Stevens, I’d like to see you get up in front of a bunch of people and do any better. People make mistakes and we learn from our mistakes. She did pretty great. You shouldn’t just make other people bad and not care. It’s so mean and cruel to do this. She was trying. And that’s a good thing. She did good. She make some mistakes but aside from that the piano playing was incredible and beautiful. I bet you wouldn’t be brave enough to play for a bunch of people. This may have been seven years ago but I’m sure she thinks about this every day. Can you imagine how upset and hurt and embarrassed she was? How could you ever want to do something like that to someone. Now, I don’t know if you knew her or she did something to you, I don’t know but that doesn’t mean you should make fun of someone and let billions of people see by having it on TH-cam. Why would you ever want to embarrass someone like that? I just can’t believe the way people are sometimes. I will report this video. I hope it gets taken down.
Hey it happens, and not necessarily in the "hardest piece in the program". There is an Argerich performance playing beethoven sonata 7, but shows "extracts only". Why do you think that is? According to a critic, she even botched a SLOW movement from some concerto in a performance. Catastrophes are possible in anyone.
But the person really going hell is the one who posted these captions. Most people glued to their devices making fun of her don’t even know what a Bach fugue is…
During my junior year recital in college I was playing the 3rd movement of Prokofiev’s 7th piano Sonata literally lost where I was and my hands went up and I froze. I took a second, restarted the piece and powered through. That’s exactly what she did. This was a learning experience. I can guarantee she won’t make those mistakes the next time. And sorry, but until I see you flub up on stage like this, you have no right to call her the worst pianist in the world.
At abrsm grade 8 piano exam, I stopped in the middle of playing a piece as my mind went totally blank.. Luckily I had my piece in front of me. I opened the page and carried on playing and safely(?) finished my exam. Since then I never again play by memory..
Yeah playing by memory is dangerous tbh due to the fact that your brain may improvise and make you think one note was another and then while your playing before you know it you messed up the whole piece since you might in the middle of a piece suddenly stop playing and then forget how to start again.
@@mgam4963 yeah especially with bach its so easy to get lost since it is very repetitive and follows the same pattern. its easy to remember the pattern but also easy to forget which bar youre in or if youre playing the right notes.
I have great respect for her. She is going through this situation confidentiality and this will make her a better performer in the end. And I also believe that she is capable to play the pieces flawless, it was just to much adrenaline because of the audience.
It’s pretty good. Better than you can ever do. Edit: I also, just don’t understand how this is bad. All music is beautiful. The person who posted this probably couldn’t play this piece. She is getting too much hate. I would clap for her for days and days. The time, tears, and pain she put into this. Do you think that is worth all this hate? The uploader should be ASHAMED of him or herself.
This makes me so sad that someone called her the "worst pianist". She isn't at all - she is just nervous. As a fellow musician who suffers from severe anxiety, I can relate to how she may be feeling. Performing can be scary sometimes. If the pianist is reading this comment, please know that you are not the worst pianist. You did an amazing job and the main achievement is that you went up there and did it. That is far better than not going up there at all! Please be kind to musicians. Even though we love performing and sharing our passion to others, our job isn't always easy and at times we may mess up.
Some of you commenters need to look at yourself especially the poster who decides to put her performance on TH-cam! Sitting behind your computer mocking a young lady who is trying her best and clearly has a lot of talent. Its says alot about your insipid character
I’m glad that this comment section is protecting her. She was just nervous. It feels bad , i never experienced it. But i assume it must feel very bad. Calling her the worst pianist is not appropriate. I think that if she made it this far with the piano , she is really good. Just don’t bully people. It’s the worst thing ever. This is why people commit suicide everyday , because of bullying. Please change the title. Thank you.
I had to play the Prelude at an audition, and I forgot it. I had to start over. I know how it feels. It is also a difficult piece, especially the Fugue. It could happen to anyone.
She obviously had some big memory slips and was very nervous. I'm a pianist as well. She should be highly commended for soldiering on. Good for her! Shame on whoever posted this
When people get really nervous and are under a lot of pressure, they’ll mess up. It’s normal and you shouldn’t be making fun of someone for it. They’ll only get more nervous and mess up even more next time.
Mark Stevens, Ten years later and we are collectively still hating you for publicly humiliating this talented woman. You’re an example of how people with no personality try to put others down for a kick.
Music, for me, is about joy. Its about having a good time. You have to like music to play music. The big problem for me here is not about the wrong notes or her bad technique or anything, its about her not enjoying herself. You can clearly see this is not her thing, she is not happy doing this, therefore there is no musicality express in it. Probable some father beating up his children to play it against their will and sending them on this stupid competitions. Whats up with this competitions anyway? Its just stupid, cant we just appreciate the music?
Let's report so that it was removed. I cannot understant why would someone do this to someone. Revenge, jealousy?.. That's not how to move ahead in life successfully.
Are you kidding me? You're going to humiliate this performer for their one mess up? That doesn't make someone a bad player. We all have had bad performances before. You never judge the musician by one performance. You need to think before you post.
You people are horrible and vile. As a young performer myself, I take personal offense to such inconsiderate attacks like the ones most of you are posing. How dare you turn someone’s nerves into some public display for you to make fun of? I once played the beautiful 2nd Movement of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in recital many years ago, a much easier piece than she had to deal with. Beethoven’s Violin Concerto is my favorite piece in the entire world and I was so excited to play it, but my vibrato was shaking so badly from nerves that I could barely finish. I still remember that performance to this day… I also remember the audience cheering and clapping at the end, hopefully as a show of support and appreciation that I tried my best rather than them laughing at me like I was some comedy act.
I honestly feel so bad for her... having played in front of a group of 30 schoolmates before, I can only imagine what it felt like playing in front of judges at an international competition. I was so nervous even in front of a small group of strangers, if I had such a bad memory lapse I would break into tears... kudos to her for keeping her cool
She is not the worst pianist. She was simply nervous. You(whoever posted this), might be classified within the worst human beings out there. This is cyber bullying.
This has happened to every amateur and professional musician at least once in their life. It’s not uncommon to be able to play a piece to a high standard when in your own place, but when put in a stressful situation, your memory and your muscle memory can completely fail you. The awful thing is, people who can’t play think that you can’t play, but every musician will fully understand what has happened. This is why I hate playing in front of non musicians. If she’s been playing it like this for the past few weeks, she would not have agreed to enter the competition.

I hope she is still alive after having such a painful moment broadcast to the world and being described as the world's worst pianist. Mark Stevens, it is not your job to drive people to suicide. Have a heart!
Agreed
My advice would be to not pay attention to what the asshat who uploaded this video thinks.
I once fucked up a performance in front of about 200 people - I paused for about 10 seconds after forgetting where I was in the piece before saying out loud “I’m dead” and continuing playing.
They heard it at the back.
The thing is, I don’t even regret it.
It happens to all of us. What's important is that you keep going and next time come even more prepared.
I have a performance tomorrow and I have to go there without any practice for 2 days. I am so nervous. Because we can't afford a piano I only can practice once a week.
Dude that’s so fucking funny if I was there I would’ve laughed out loud and gave u a high five backstage
Kudos to you for saying "I'm dead." I love a performer who's bold enough to say stuff like that. Virtual high have.
World's worst video title, I actually really loved her playing
Botching a public performance has been a performer's worst nightmare for countless centuries. Only this century has the added prospect of humiliation on a far larger scale via TH-cam. Most of us enjoy bloopers, especially from established pros. But inviting public ridicule for students or other hopefuls having clearly nerve-induced meltdowns feels a bit mean-spirited. This "worst pianist in the world," who really is anything but, has only my sympathy. I can too easily see myself in her shoes.
Its downright evil! People has commited suicide for less.
You know that probably someone recorded this performance and put it on TH-cam for everyone to see right? It's not just the TH-camrs? The content needs to come from somewhere. Like...
@@snuppssynthchannel Indeed. Keith Emerson committed suicide for exactly this reason.
@@secretmission7607 Indeed, my favorite keyboardplayer and biggest hero was Emerson. One of the reasons to why this video make me furious!
Maybe she was the one who did it. Who knows?
Or perhaps a jealous classmate.
Mark Stevens I look forward to seeing your faultless piano performances...
As if it would be faultless
Competitions take the joy out of playing music.
Well said my bruther
Completely agree
But it’s a competition. You decide if u want to do it or not
PabloPeekaboo Exactly! All these people are so stupid. What else are they gonna judge on. It would be so unorthodox to start judging on something else that has nothing to do with the score and the way it’s supposed to be played. Play freely on your own time if you want.
for me, competitions make it better
She never stopped and kept going props to her 👏👏👏 this is a very complicated piece. Keep pushing through girl you did well.
I’ve been worse on a bigger stage, and yet I don’t see my video titled “WORST PIANIST IN THE WORLD”
Same
But I’m worse than that on a daily basis
Why would you call her the worst?
Imagine you going through that much embarrassment
How would you feel?
Thanks, Demotivational Shia
Pollinifan Paul? Is that you?
Some profesional Singers get off tune all the way and people complain for some bad piano notes 🙈
Piano competitions have a toxic, negative atmosphere, and the insistence of having no music infront of you creates undue pressure
Competition is one thing, and public humiliation is another. Come on man
Girl, I'm waiting to see your video of playing so wonderfully the same piece in front of an even larger audience and take a bow for a thunderous applause. You will do it.
+Daniel Evans YES
true!! beautiful comment!😍😍😍
He’s a judge tho... he can probably play this
agaveboy he’s a judge!??
I had the same thought
She’s not the worst. I’m sure she can play those pieces under less stressful conditions. Remember that this is being done from memory.
Hey, it happens.
Gosh...!
+Nina SuperNova yup! Prelude and Fugue in C minor.
Demotivational Shia shut up asshole
Hmmm. Who published this? Shame on you. 👌 she's good compare to me when I had my first exam at school on the piano and I totally failed in it. I quite and got up.
yeah that's true. the road to success is ridden with failure. we shouldn't be publicly humiliating her but instead give constructive feedback and help. she's definitely not the worst, but not the best either. that's okay, because with time and effort and ENCOURAGEMENT, she can definitely become a better pianist.
i think shes a brilliant pianist with a nervous mind
She remained composed throughout which is the main thing
She’s actually quite decent, and perhaps a great pianist for keeping the show going. Good on her! This one isn’t easy. Don’t let stuff like this get in the way of doing what you love, you can move mountains if you work hard enough.
The worst pianist in the world is the one who has given up and hides in silence. This, my friend, is NOT the worst pianist in the world.
Well spoken!!
All I have to say is who among us is perfect? So she messed up, I bet she plays better than most of us watching.
Among us???
Are you a time traveler?
@@generalgrievous3731 sus
Among us? That’s a little sus.
hi, after 7 years, how is ur life going gump tion
If only we could see how many dislikes this video recieved
I have a dislike extension right now, and this video sits at a beautiful and well-deserved 8.7k dislikes!
'Worst pianist in the world.' Simply not true. Clickbait.
Sounds like my practising! It could happen to anyone! I would wait a litle longer before putting myself forward for an international piano competition though!
She is human. She makes mistakes like me. And its good to know that on TH-cam arent only professional pianists :)
She played just slow and just some mistakes you thought everybody is LangLang?
sounded kinda good for me and also for many others , I hope that girl had enjoy and still enjoying every moment she plays the piano while she's beating up all her fears, that's the most important thing to do between a human being and the art.
Not her best day and obviously not well prepared, but on her worst day she is still better than most who would humiliate her. My heart goes out to her.
I love how she keeps going if it was me I would break the darn thing. And run off stage crying
I know how hard it is to memorise Bach...
Man, you can tell how nervous she is. Poor girl. D:
1835, Chopin : “The crowd intimidates me, its breath suffocates me, I feel paralyzed by its curious look, and the unknown faces make me dumb.”
“Concerts are never real music”
“You have to give up the idea of hearing in them the most beautiful things of art.”
Man.. imagine being super nervous while performing and did badly.. just when you thought the nightmare ended there... a person had posted the full video on youtube with a title that says 'worst.....'.
This video was cringe. She literally is the worst pianist I’ve seen
@@Chorizo727 Can you do better? No.
@@Chorizo727no she isn't
Hey it happens, and not necessarily in the "hardest piece in the program".
There is an Argerich performance playing beethoven sonata 7, but shows "extracts only". Why do you think that is?
According to a critic, she even botched a SLOW movement from some concerto in a performance.
Catastrophes are possible in anyone.
But the person really going hell is the one who posted these captions. Most people glued to their devices making fun of her don’t even know what a Bach fugue is…
Fair play to her...she kept going regardless....
That piece is deceptively hard, even at that tempo.
Thumbs down for the title and 0 respect.
Thumbs up for pianist
I cannot agree with the title of this video.
At abrsm grade 8 piano exam, I stopped in the middle of playing a piece as my mind went totally blank.. Luckily I had my piece in front of me. I opened the page and carried on playing and safely(?) finished my exam.
Since then I never again play by memory..
try again :)
If I was able to play half as good as her, I’d be pretty happy with myself!
The uploader should be ASHAMED of him or herself.
this video shows how hard musicians work.
I was playing on a Bach competition, and i was very nervous, so i made mistakes. I think that happends, even if you know the piece well
Playing the piano is damn hard. It takes years of dedication to get to her level.
Clearly you’ve never heard me play...
God, I thought that I was the only one that makes mistakes, you guys try to play these pieces too
This makes me so sad that someone called her the "worst pianist". Even though we love performing and sharing our passion to others, our job isn't always easy and at times we may mess up.
how is she the world's worst? i exist
She really isn't that bad. I would just suggest that she perform a piece that she can handle.
Very hard to rely on an opinion coming from a black person
Bach is a pain on stage, i made a lot of mistakes when i play it and it's really frustrating.
You do realise how nervous she was, right?
This is disgusting to see someone post and make fun of this performer
SHE DID AMAZING I BET NON OF U CAN DO A LEFT HAND, WHY U GOTTA BE MEAN?
She obviously had some big memory slips and was very nervous. I'm a pianist as well. She should be highly commended for soldiering on. Good for her! Shame on whoever posted this
I flagged this video. She probably doesn't want to be on youtube for this.
When people get really nervous and are under a lot of pressure, they’ll mess up. It’s normal and you shouldn’t be making fun of someone for it. They’ll only get more nervous and mess up even more next time.
BACH SAID IT
Mark Stevens: Shame on you!
Mark Stevens, Ten years later and we are collectively still hating you for publicly humiliating this talented woman. You’re an example of how people with no personality try to put others down for a kick.
Mark Stevens is a great example of people who need their head examined. I mean, who in their right mind would publicly humiliate someone?!
Obviously the "critics" are not piano players.
Its just stupid, cant we just appreciate the music?
hard to have "joy" when you can barely get it going, and all those people are watching!
Freedom of speech is such a wonderful thing.
Bruh
I can't even played like her
She's definetly not the worst pianist
Trust me she is just nervous
This has happened to every amateur and professional musician at least once in their life. It’s not uncommon to be able to play a piece to a high standard when in your own place, but when put in a stressful situation, your memory and your muscle memory can completely fail you. The awful thing is, people who can’t play think that you can’t play, but every musician will fully understand what has happened. This is why I hate playing in front of non musicians. If she’s been playing it like this for the past few weeks, she would not have agreed to enter the competition.
Everyone can make mistakes
But people shouldn't make fun of this
Did this lady reject you, Mark? Why do you have a TH-cam channel dedicated to humiliating her? What did she ever do to you, Mark?
That looks more like Performance juries than an International piano competition .
You can't imagine how stressful is for some of us to perform in front of all the people, I left piano because I couldn't handle public presentations. Many years after I am trying to cope with it and return
😢
@@AzucenahVillarroel damn Im a pianist, I hate performing but I didnt stop playing, but I hate the fact I have to perform, its stress lvl 1000, u wont know what it is like until u experience it..
And she still plays better than half of the world population ❤
I’m a varsity student and this has happened to me, and all my colleagues. We are all the worst pianists in the world then
My guess is that this woman dumped Mark Stevens because he was a poor lover...
