Honestly I like that the new anime’s that if/when the female lead gets hit on and the male lead protects her, they don’t try and push forward with hitting on her more, they just accept it and move on. I feel like it is becoming more precedent in the newer anime’s and I’m all for it
Its probably because its a Slice of life anime, if it was slightly more bitter or more darker themed, they would just beat him up
This kind of a scene is a trope with RomComs or romance anime in general. Just like the beach or school festival episode. Most of said animes are wholesome in nature so they dont push much for drama (like the guys still pressing their luck)

While a bit weird for surrounding a girl that they perceived was alone, I'm glad that the guys ended up back off and even rooting for Shiraishi. Gotta love how Shiraishi's invisibility actually came in handy for once, as without it, he wouldn't have shocked the boys as much. Speaking of Shiraishi, he is becoming more comfortable with Kubo, which shows a slight amount of character development on his part. He is just such a gentleman in this episode, being very considerate of Kubo's feelings and personal space at the subway train and the coffee shop.
If this was an H, they'd attack him, roll him up in a carpet, and make him watch.

I remember reading the manga volume that has their movie date and thinking it was a real turning point in their relationship. Up until then, Junta was still unsure of whether Nagisa was really interested in getting to know him, or if she just liked teasing him. Throughout this volume, and in the anime episodes, we see him finally accept that Kubo is genuine and that it’s okay to be more open with her. The way he stands up for Kubo is very realistic for his personality as well, while still being a huge leap forward in character development. I was excited to see how they were going to portray this in the anime, and I’m glad to say they did a wonderful job. Junta is slowly but surely becoming the main character in his life, and making progress with Nagisa too. You just love to see it.
It kinda does mark a turning point for the manga as a whole though. For one thing, after this point, the manga begins to slowly do away with its loose structure of vignettes and endorse a more story-driven narrative, with plenty of call backs, set ups and pay offs. Of course, Nene Yukimori did a pretty good at shifting the tone of the manga without sacrificing the slice-of-life vibes that the first third of the manga was going for. Aside from that, another aspect that changes is just how much more important the supporting characters become after this event. Hazuki, Tama and Sudo, all begin to have much more prominent roles in the manga, and their great comradery with the main duo and among themselves is something that I yearn to see in a second season of the anime.

I mean to be fair, no one would bat an eye if they were "dating" since they are essentially already are and just not formally acknowledging themselves as anything more than friends/classmates. And this entire outing was very much framed as a date anyways, so... Yeah, Nagisa wasn't exactly lying XD

You know i've always wonder, What's exactly the plan of the guys that do this in an anime? You know, surrounding a girl between them and ask her out, Do they want to have an 0r6y or what? I mean come on, What kind of girl would just accept to hang out with a bunch of unknown guys?
I can understand it if it was 1 guy inviting 1 girl, but 3 guys inviting 1 girl is just weird and there is no way a girl would accept unless she has some mental issue or wants to use them to eat for free and then dump them like trash after she finish eating, what a weird trope just so the MC can looks like a hero.
It’s not necessarily from anime, in movies going back decades it’s been common to have groups of guys pick up a girl like that. Why would she accept? Well probably mostly for the second option. It’s free food and a good time. At the time when the trope originated, it was seen as lot more innocent then nowadays.
