Tragic to see such a mighty structure reduced to this. Privileged to have worked there for 15 yrs (some former workmates may object to my use of the word 'worked').
I know it's such a shame and also impressive at the same time how the can clear a site this size and a lot of my family worked at Longannet over the years and its going to be such a shame once it's all gone.
I started work there in Oct 1973 as an APA after discharge from the Navy at Rosyth. It was such a great place to learn and in doing so it afforded me the experience to take those skills and use them elsewhere. In June of 1975 I landed in Canada having secured a job with Ontario Hydro at their Nuclear Generating Station at Pickering just East of Toronto. My experience in the Navy coupled with my time at Longannet gave me a little more than most new recruits so I rose up very quickly. I thank all the good people who took the time to pass on their knowledge at Longannet for the life I was able to get here in Canada as it all started in the Ash pits and Mill basement there. Sad to see it gone but soon Pickering NGS will see the same demise.
So sad to watch. I spent my whole working life here before having to retire following an industrial accident. So many bittersweet memories and so many colleagues no longer with us. RIP the "Gannet"!
Very sad to watch, the speed at which the Government has allowed the thermal generation stations close and be demolished is worrying and scary, a lot should of been left on standby or mothballed, power consumption is on the increase and wind and solar can't provide the capacity that is required, the lights will eventually go out once we have lost these faithful cathedrals of power.
Longannet was coal-fired I have a lot more videos if you want to check them out. I know they should have kept a few a strategic reserves just incase the wind turbines and solar panels fail and also its true they can't provide the capability that is required for our demand.
Criminal to take such a place down . Sadly those in power will have never picked up a shovel , welded anything ,built anything in their pathetic path and have no respect or appreciation for the work done in the place and also construction of it in the first place . Now it’s been reduced to rubble . Can think of a few government buildings around the world that should see a similar demise .
