  • EFF leader Julius Malema has hailed the party's national protest a success. Malema said the most significant indicator that the EFF had achieved its purpose was that "the biggest centre of the economy in the whole of Africa, Sandton City was closed without burning any building or looting. Malema, who led the protest in Pretoria with other EFF leaders walked hand-in-hand with the leader of the African Transformation Movement (ATM) Vuyo Zungula, and Carl Niehaus, the leader of the newly formed African Radical Economic Transformation Alliance. Other political party leaders who attended the march which has been largely hailed as peaceful include PAC's Mzwanele Nyhontso, and Mzwanele Manyi of the ATM. Professor Bheki Mngomezulu, the Director of the Centre for the Advancement of Non-Racialism and Democracy at Nelson Mandela University and joins us virtually.

    Contrary to the Prof opinion on the security sharing information on the protest. The aim of law enforcement agent in relation to civil unrest is to protect lives and properties and to ensure peaceful demonstration. The focus shouldn’t be to hide and catch culprits unaware. If sharing the information would make protesters behave peacefully, then sharing such information is more useful for the society at large than to allow damages just to catch offenders.

At least when you make such claims, you should at least provide evidence which then will accompany claims. You may not like julius malema as a person and you're allowed to do so. @RemOmni ปีที่แล้ว +14

    What I think everyone is ignoring is the rhetoric that Malema, the EFF and those associated with them, are engaging in and ignoring what happened in 2021 during the last shutdown.
    The deployment of police and security clusters in response to protests is to help prevent the recurrence of the kind of violence and property damage that occurred during the previous shutdown which resulted in significant property damage and loss of life, which also highlighted the need for better preparation and coordination between law enforcement agencies during this shutdown.
    It's worth noting the deployment of police and security clusters in response to protests may create the perception that the government is behaving irrationally and attempting to oppress the people, even if the deployment is a necessary response due to the violence and property destruction that occurred in 2021.
    Moreover, the optics of a heavily militarized response can also contribute to an atmosphere of fear and intimidation among the public.
    In conclusion, the deployment of police and security clusters can play an important role in maintaining public safety and preventing the recurrence of the kind of violence and property destruction that occurred previously. However, it's was crucial that law enforcement agencies deployed an appropriate number of personnel and used a measured approach that respects the rights of individuals to protest peacefully which I believe they did for the most part barring bad actors on both sides.

    • @ckoriablack
      @ckoriablack ปีที่แล้ว +4

    • @RemOmni
      @RemOmni ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ckoriablack You make a valid point that protest and looting are two different things, but you also have to acknowledge that the phrasing "shutdown" is also used to refer to the widespread protests, looting, and violence that occurred in July 2021.

    Really it was a success. ANC has role models in NP (National Party) during apartheid look at the comment of helipad in Nkandla they said PW Botha had one. What they did with the announcement about security it was for the first time I had in my life I saw 1976 June 16, 1984 September 3 in the Vaal which shaked PW Botha and his Parliament because the following year the was state of emergency it was planned long before September because I knew about it in July people were given a benefit of doubt but with ANC and DA it's worse. Maybe by then DA was PFP(Progressive Federal Party) before it became DP and changed to DA we never saw this intimidation. That is why George Bizos said Marikana reminded him of 1960 which UN condemned. But ANC role models are NP. Ramaphosa might not leave now but Rome was not built in one day

    Mr Maleme was quick to outline the problems in the country, we all know the problems and have experienced them. It is easy to accomplish your objective using fear as your tactic and psychological torture, so getting this done would be easy, but the truth of the matter is the ANC is still in power. He also keeps including bringing up apartheid and racism towards white people, it is clear he does not like (white) people, and that I as a white person who had nothing to do with apartheid, what future do we have as white citizens in this beautiful country, so my question is, now that we see what the problems are, Please I pray tell us, what is now the solution you propose? Do you have the answers or even an idea of how to solve these issues, while still keeping a racist-free democracy?

      Yesterday protest was not only about that. Load shedding that is a crisis in our country, unemployment rate, the repo rate is rising once again.
      We can argue and disagree but the truth is yesterday protest was not about EFF but for all of us.
      Ask yourself what will happen when ANC loss the election/power?
      Are we all safe?
      Will they accept defeat just like that?
      If you look closely how they react and use Police and all forces to intimidation South Africans practicing their own right.
      We are all not safe from these politicians be it EFF, ANC or DA
      The only thing they have achieved is dividing all of us. Ask yourself why most white people were against yesterday Protest to me it felt like It was EFF vs ANC and Whites not about Us as South Africans.
      We are not united and as long as we keep fighting against each other the politicians will continue to loot and destroy our Country
