Hearing Quartermain on commentary is so refreshing coming back to this. He has so much energy and investment into every moment of play. In comparison, i cannot stand James Brawshaw covering our game. So many moments of any match he is silent as the grave
Geelong supporter here, amazing watching this back and seeing all those chances that went begging from a St Kilda perspective. You were probably better than as that day for a large portion. That Saints team will go down as probably the most deserving team of a flag which never won one. So many legends on that team, I'm sad they never got one!
The Saints peaked too soon in 2009, as they did in 1997, as the Cats did in 2008, and as the Crows did in 2017. On this occasion, inaccurate kicking for goal made all of the difference. 14 goals 9 behinds (93 points) would have been a 13 point victory. Bad kicking is bad football, as the commentators say. I have huge sympathy for Robert Harvey and similar legends. He was loyal to St Kilda, and paid the price for that. Over the years, a few players switched clubs to achieve the premiership that couldn't come any other way.
Absolute classic. 2005,6,18 are the only competition - but the absolute brutality of the competition between these sides and the weather just perfectly fits the vibe. It might be the best match ever played. Sorry Sainters.
It was great to see Bob Davis out there enjoying the win. He didn't survive to see Geelong's 3rd in that set of 3 completed in 2011. He was a premiership player in 1951 & 1952; premiership coach in 1963 and had to wait 44 years to see the next one.
I was there! It's the ultimate being at a winning Grand Final. Nothing like it. When Harry Taylor had it at the end, I stood up and said "Don't hurry it. Hold onto the ball! Take your time".
Cats supporter here, had no nails left at the end of this game. We were lucky with regards to Tomahawk's goal that hit the post. Had the Saints won it would've been well deserved.
I understand umps like to put the whistle away in the last qtr but Schneider not getting holding the man free kick was a shocker. Milne choking and Dawson was a boy among men. Cats experience shone through when it mattered. Chappy won the NS because he set up so many of their forward attacks even when he wasn't kicking them himself. He was the difference. Saints needed a Chappy up the other end and they would have won easily.
@@tr1p1ea No - in 2008 Geelong was the best team no doubt, but outplayed in the grand final. In 2009 St Kilda, was the best team and also the best team on the day but ultimately lost the Grand Final. Geelong players and Bomber Thompson have openly admitted how lucky they were to win in 09. It’s one of the biggest injustices on Grand Final day there has been.
@@GeneralSunspriteGram was the best on ground easily. Most people at the ground and even Geelong supporters were saying he'd win it. It was a bit of a shock wehen Chappy won even though he had been fantastic.

They should have won back to back!

This is in my top 3 grand finals this century. Along with 2002 and 2016

Anytime I watch the passage beginning with "the toe poke" my spine just tingles uncontrollably.

I forgot how good the last quarter was. I was a 22 year old die hard Geelong supporter and spent most of my time pacing around the room screaming 😂
They you did 2011 and 2 years ago
That Milne and mcqualter miss in the 2nd qtr right infront of goal wowee that sums it’s up.. still hurts 💔🤍🖤
I remember being 10 years old watching this at the footy club, I was so nervous I could hardly watch the 4th quarter
Pretty sure that goal post is still shaking to this day
The incident at 1:05:15 cancelled out that non-goal to Hawkins
@@jasonvandermeer9854 except for the fact that Geelong kicked a goal straight from the centre bounce after the Hawkins ‘goal’
It made no difference. Rooke made sure with his after the siren goal.😁
Pretty sure our premiership cup is shining to this day 😅
@@GeneralSunspritehaha sure did 😅 Go cats!!

I was born on the year that the cats won, its no wonder that I support them
Great game! Wanted the saints to win!
Not so much the next year.
Thanks for uploading!
In this match , I would have played Riewoldt at full forward and Kositski high up the ground forcing Scarlet to play on Riewoldt .
Not even 720p? What a crime! Where's the HD copy?
Still hurts 😭
i remember watching this as a 16 year old kid in the last 4mins i was in my backyard i couldn't watch the game i walked inside the the cats won 😂🤣🤣🤣

I wonder how much channel 10 paid to have their logo on the sherrin
Why would you upload this 😢😢😢
Because 😂
Time this yr
If there’s ever been a grand final and a season where the best team didn’t win this is it.
... You mean 2008

@@darkmatter7301the conditions hurt the Saints too I think. If it were dry and sunny, Riewoldt and co would have likely had a much greater impact.
Go Catttters!
Small forwards ..miss miss cost us
That Free kick to Ablett in the Second quarter was a Joke.
Still think Rooke and Mackie stiff for Norm.
Jason Gram stiffer even
