    i love how all the comments say "Oh wow that a nice bag, BUT you could add this, or instead of that use this, or thats a bit redundant you'll fix it soon." It's his choices and he is showing you what he thought would be good for HIM, not yall! Make your own bugout bag and let the comments flow in of how much people correct you on what YOU should bring.

      Thanks, I have long since updated this bag, I don't even use the same bag anymore.. upgraded a ton of stuff inside as well. I really need to do an update but I have had a ton of new videos keeping me busy so I will have to work on doing an upgraded video of my large bug out bag sometime during the weekend.

    enjoyed the video. one of the changes i would consider is the gloves. sure those work gloves will last you forever. but if your planning on wearing them alot, its hard to do anything other than push a lawnmower or swing and ax. theyre too bulky. try some mechaniX gloves. alot tighter to the hand. and plenty of durabilty.

    Thanks for sharing with us! I really like the idea that you have your items organized within smaller bags, inside your Bugout Bag. I'm going to go through my Main Bugout Bag tonight, and probably steal that idea from you.

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Darque Ronin I have updated it since. Went to another bag and upgraded some stuff inside. 10 days later and I have already changed things around lol. I will do a new video, but yeah, I just went though all my bags and decided to use them to organize it better.

    • @darqueronin3935
      @darqueronin3935 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just went through my Main (Long term) Bugout Bag, and at some point I had already broke everything down into smaller bags lol! I'm more squared away than I thought. Goes to show though, you need to check your gear out regularly!

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Darque Ronin Yeah perhaps we need to have a bug out bag meet up. Locals here just meeting up and sharing ideas and such for our bags. Might be able to get some ideas. We should post something up on the side in facbeook and see if anyone wants to do it.. its too hot now to do much of anything outside but something inside like this could be fun, besides its been ages since we have all met up.

    • @darqueronin3935

    Overall, I think it's a really nice pack. Seems to be well thought out and packed with intention. My only comments are that I didn't see a water bottle. I'd make sure you had at least 1 1l bottle, maybe 2. I'd also be inclined to separate out the trauma and first aid items from your first aid kit and move the trauma items to an outside pocket.

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah this was an older video so things have changed GREATLY since I did id.. I have an update to my larger BOB video out here somewhere, different bag and gear, and that has even changed since then. Its amazing how much putting it on video and then looking at it makes you want to change things around! My new setups both have internal water bladders as well as canteens or metal water cans!

      @@Iridium242 I always keep my drugs and meds bags separate from my trauma stuff ( and I pack the real deal in both, not some Tylenol for pain and some Bandaides for trauma. I make sure I can patch up major injuries and kill the pain and anxiety in case I catch a round. The ruck itself looks cool. It seems way more manageable than my U.S. G.I. MOLLE 2 large ruck and Marine ILBE. I think it would be a lot better if they put some rows of MOLLE on it ( simply because I like to set up my pouches where and how I want them, and I'm used to always having a lot of it ). Having those big ( I'm guessing 10 to 15 liter? I may get a lot more information if I watched the whole video before commenting ;) ) side pouches so they could zip together and make a 20 or 30 liter assault ruck like those huge British military Bergens ( that's a cool feature I've seen on a lot of Euro rucks, like my favorites, the Dutch Alpine Saracen, the Finn military Savotta model whatever, and the German Jumbo Alpine rucks. Those rucks are even bigger than what I've got set up as my combat and B.O.B. , the U.S. G.I. MOLLE 2 large combat ruck. Then again, mine is a 5000 cubic inch ruck, with my ILBE at 90 and more liters, especially with all the pouches and I MOLLE onto it, plus the weight of a pistol belt, Glock 21 .45ACP, chest rig, AKM, and lots of additional mags and ammo for everything. My kit is more succinct than when I was younger and carrying tons of stuff is a lot easier at 27 than 47 ). They could make it where you have the zip together side pouches covered with MOLLE, and, when they're attached to the main ruck, they can be sleeve pouches like on the old ALICE rucks. That would be cool, even if carrying an 80 pound ruck plus weapons, mags, ammo, tac gear, and stuff like that is harder now. I'm not sure if I could even carry what used to be easy for more than 300 yards now, and even then I would probably collapse and want to go home ( let the young guys do the fighting, haha ;) ). Okay, I'm gonna watch the rest of these reviews before I want to lay on the couch and watch horror movies all night

    Thank you for your informative video. Could I pass along an idea that, though perhaps a smidge too large for the tool pocket, may let you free up some weight by doing two things in one tool.
    Have you ever checked out the Speznatz shovel by Cold Steel? It is based on the soviet special forces shovel. It can, of course, dig but, it can also be used as an axe and a makeshift weapon. I received mine as a present along with the sheath. I put a carbiner on the loop of the sheath and hang it on the outside of my bag but, you can also hang it on your belt as it has belt loops as well.

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Blacksphear Void Yeah, I need to do a new vid, I have re-done this whole bag ages ago, I am not even using the same bag anymore. I ended up getting the Schrade shovel, I have a review posted on my vids, I like the idea of mounting it on the outside and my new bag has MOLLE attachments, so both it and my Axe will be mounted on the outside as soon as my attachment clips come in. Thanks for watching, I really need to show an update of my new BOB :)

      Contingency Preps Thanks, yeah I had to pear it down some, It had way too much food in it, way to much extra stuff, I am sure I will be filling it up with more stuff, but I have 4 other bug out bags so if I was leaving for a long period of time in my vehicle they would all come with me.. This was more about keeping it as a good full bag, but keeping the weight down. Just watching your BOB vid now, seems a lot of what you keep in your bag, I keep in my vehicle car kit everywhere I go. Thats a whole other video.. lol the car get home box that lives in there :)

    Quarters may not be much good for phone calls but a few bucks in quarters can keep ur tires aired up in a pinch. Should probably keep the quarters with the truck if that's what we're using them for though.

    Pretty good video and I saw that you already responded to your first aid/trauma situation down below. I would just say I would try to have a quick-detach pack on you bag either tied on or MOLLE or maybe on your belt. I didn’t see anything about hunting/trapping, if you don’t know how to hunt grab some good rat traps and peanut butter and you’ll get some some game wherever you live, maybe fishing supplies if that’s an option where you live.

      In 2005 Victorinox bought Wenger. In 2014 all production of Swiss Army Knives under the Wenger trademark ceased. Some models are still out there in stores and being sold but the prices have gone up a lot. If you don't remember the model name/number, this site might be able to help. sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php

      Cool, I just went into my store room and got it off my knife shelf, sure enough opened the main blade and it says Wegner. The other side of it has some promotional stuff on it for some event, Says Vallorbe Swiss and Grobert -Swiss Vallorbe. I got it at some big event at the place I worked at in NYC years ago... like think 1994. I will look it up, thanks!

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I just looked it up, this one is a Wenger Viking or commander, they are both sort of the same. Neat, I will have to clean off the dust on it and save it :) Thanks for the info.. I always figured it was some Chinese knock off because it was given out for free.

    • @05generic
      @05generic 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome. Glad I could help. I'm in to SAK's and enjoy studying them. The Viking has a small blade and was frequently used for promotions. The Commander has a nail file instead of small blade. They're not rare and it would likely be a long time before they appreciate substantially, but it's still a bit of a treasure IMO. They are solid knives with a ton of history and tradition. Have a good week.

    I honestly dont get the why people make short and long term bobs. Theres only bob and should be long term only. For one, in a bugout scenario you cant carry both. Carrying one, you will leave the other and you really cant tell for how long. So honestly the only type of bob you need is an inch bag.

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This bag has been substantially redone since I shot this video, but in my case, the smaller BOB for short term would be grabbed if I had to respond to a short term emergency with ham radio or CERT, that's why I have 2 bags and a totally separate INCH kit. That and I review a ton of gear, so I build extra bags lol in a later video I explained that you do not need 2 or 3 bags, its certainly not necessary.

    Decent bag, whatever you do, do NOT listen to the REI snobs who feel that if you didn't spend 1200 dollars on a tent and sleeping bag, you have some how done wrong.
    Gear snobs are main reason people never prepare, everyone thinks you need to spend thousands for a simple bug out bag. Are there areas you can improve on? Sure.. but it looks like you are already doing 100% than most people are. Good job.
