I feel that way too, why are they turning cute and innocent characters into literal monsters?!? I hate that a lot. Where’s a good god character that have the power to eliminate EXE monster's and bring peace to the characters, animals and the world when you need one.
I'm not particularly the type of person who likes to play these games with freaking hedgehogs that don't stop killing innocent characters, I must say that it makes me very sad and angry, but if I said that Mr. Pixel doesn't have the talent for this kind of thing I would be lying, and in my opinion, the worst lies are the ones we tell ourselves, Mr. Pixel is very good at what he does, I may not like horror games but I recognize talent when I see it :)
What I think this rework could have is a good ending, I know this is not a game that should have a good ending, but I think it's good because almost all these games are the same thing, a sinister hedgehog comes and kills everyone and youcan't do anything other than make them move on to their inevitable end, I don't like seeing this all the time so the least the characters deserve is a chance to make this nightmare end, and with Mr. Pixel producing the game,I have no doubt whatsoever that he can do this.
In the last version, there was a death scene for letting the timer reach 9:59 in the Tails stage. Which I didn’t even KNOW about until watching someone else’s video on the game yesterday. Maybe that same death scene may still be used in the rework? Hope this helps when trying to find deaths scenes in the rework.

There's now an English version of it, so everyone can now understand the plot (which can be unlocked by selecting characters in the correct order).
