Almost 3 years ago I invested into my friends company and we put a concrete pad and a building ourselves in his backyard. Best decision we’ve ever made now we have 3 cnc machines in that 800 sq ft shop doing our best to make a difference for our customers. Started the whole company with 25 grand of our money and a Tormach mill and that was life changing
nice man really nice i might also start doing my own thing but i gotta get some money and get a lil bit older and get the permits since im in Germany and im not allowed to start my own shop with out certain titles
If you don't have access to financing, you need to take it slow. I work a full-time job, bought SolidWorks, and after work, I design for a few companies. Every weekend, I work on renovating an old barn into a CNC workshop. I look for deals, and that’s how I managed to buy a few 20-year-old machines. Every day, I pray they’ll start once I finish the renovation and get the electricity hooked up. I started this journey 3 years ago :D Estimated 2 more years, and I’ll finally see the first chips fly!

In planning stages to break ground on a 5000sq ft building summer next yr on my property. Even started my own website for some of the products we make. Started my business 1 year ago. I bought a haas mini mill. Used my savings. I have zero overhead. My biggest problem now is getting more customers because i still work my day job. I have over a decade of experience programming and machining. My next step is building a website so i can accept RFQ's and have potential customers see my work. Penick precision machining based out of AZ.
My why: I worked at a place that used outside shops besides our inside shop for production parts. I saw some god-awful work being purchased. I knew I could make those parts and make them better. I knew Mastercam, set up and operated a cnc mill. Now almost 20 years my own shop with 6 cnc's. I just wish I did it two years earlier. I signed a lease the end of 2004. I started making chips 2/15/2005 for a customer. Still making parts for them.
Great talk brother. Small shop with two tormachs and for 8 years I've afforded a new house with 4 acres and a bigger shop (still moving in). God provides. Anyhow, I'm in my 50s and I am leaving this cash cow to my son someday. At 14 years old, he is learning cad design and helps me out here and there while learning things in the shop. Keep up the great work and God bless you.

I trained to be a machinist, it was my dream job. I went to find a job and found nothing in my state. I couldn’t move for personal reasons. I decided to just find something else. I regret not staying with it. Now I just wish I could get back in the shop. I have a great job now but I want to continue learning CNC machining. I’m going to try to use the rest of my GI Bill to take some classes. If anyone knows some good classes to take let me know.
With all of your connections to Fort Wayne Indiana I'm surprised you didn't relocate here. Tons of CNC machining here, along with other forms of advanced manufacturing.
Thanks! I’ve been collection machines and buying. Hanes to pick them up and trailers and storage sea cans etc.. I’m almost ready to jump on a property. Have lots of ideas! Fortunately I have to do stuff the hard way and climb over stuff to do what I have to do! lol
I would like to start my own shop. However, I worked for a Company where I did all of the 3D modeling and CAM programing, but was not allowed to run the machines which made it impossible to find a job when the owner died and the place closed down. Maybe I can find a used machine and learn on my own and learn G & M programming. THATS how I learned CAD/CAM!
Titan you’re a great motivator. Thank you for all that you have done for anyone interested in machining running a business and how to treat people. My career was cut short and I’m thinking of possibly starting my own shop.
I have to learn some of this to get my company off the ground so that the world changing technology that is in my head can make it out into this world so that those that need it most can have a chance to be in control of their own energy needs. But like most I need help getting the company off the ground.
My biggest concerns about opening my own shop is the credit and getting customers. All my working contracts don't allow me to show the parts I programmed and run to prove my skills. I have the title needed to open a shop, the knowledge etc of machining and finished best in class in the finance part of my title. So I have faith in me but can't really be sure to secure work
I can see it! I can feel it. I want the greatness for my whole team! We are positioned for it. We have great machines but were kinda ugly... I want to change that! 2025 baby!
Titan I am a guy that works for a local highway dept and I feel like I have more talent and a passion for CNC and CAD. I'm 38 years old and have bills so starting at the bottom of the pay scale is a hard obstacle to overcome. I know in my mind I want to pursue manufacturing but not sure how to go about it. I have started the Titan Academy which is a start but still not sure how to get noticed without prior experience. I've had several 3d printers and taught myself how to use it to a point I had one customer that send me files to print and I taught myself thru hours and hours of TH-cam how to use basic CAD with Fusion 360. Since starting the Academy I've switched over to Solidworks. I've never used a CNC but I'm glued to videos of them but I really enjoy Cad design so I'm not sure if there is a job for just Cad design or if CAD and CNC are the same job?
Titan, I want to thank you for showing me it is possible for me to work on a CNC. I always used to think it's too complicated oh I cant do that but now watching your videos I now know it is possible with dedication and hard work. Its all because of your videos showing me the way. Thank you, Andrew 🥳

How do you compete with China's products and low cost of raw materials. They do have now the expertise to do quality work, we teach them, we gave the technology and they are becoming better at it through experience and time. What niche jobs can you find in US at large scale so you can compete with made in China?

Bro missed the entire point did you not listen he had an investor he didn't find a 100k he found someone who believed in him and had a 100k you have to take the leap you can even lease a lot of machines for a couple grand a month and easily make that to cover ur lease
Perhaps not the attitude to succeed. My first cnc machine was purchased by the customer I was developing for. I was providing solutions for them with my limited means amd convinced them to purchase a CNC plasma, after another hear and more positive results I convinced them to purchase a CNC router capable of doing aluminium. There is no straight forward path, you must seize opportunities and make sacrifices. BTW I had zero idea how to operate a CNC machine when I asked for one
