How do you prep highly polished metal for Cerakote? All the manuals say to sandblast, but that would negate the polishing. Would it just adhere to the properly degreased/acetone soaked surface?
When using MC-5100 Clear you do NOT need to sand blast. If you're applying a color (H-Series or Elite) you would need sandblasting prior to application, and since it is colored, it would cover up any polishing anyways.
Yep. I've been using these products and they're amazing to say the least. Check out "gun candy", its an additive can be used with cerakote clear, much like the additives for auto paints... in pearls, chameleon, and metallic effects.
If I decided to spray this over my polished aluminum Alcoa wheels could I bake them in a spray booth? So I can mount tires and install them on my semi truck rig?
Ceramic can be transparent. Example being Aluminum and Yttrium Oxide. There are many optically clear ceramics that can be made. In real world use watch faces that advertise Sapphire Crystal are lab made Aluminum Oxide glass, and the same aluminum oxide is normally a chemical nano coating on your phone's glass displays to improve scratch resistance and oleo-phobic properties.
@@ubacow7109 you have more info? I have an aerospace aluminum (vanity) mirror (Boeing/Airbus) and am looking for a an anti-scratch coating that will not compromise the optical clarity, reflectivity, non-iridescent qualities of the mirror.
Though I have sandblasted surfaces finished with H series Cerakote.. and it holds up better than most any other finish... it takes a lot of blasting to remove it.
Jesus, it's tougher than Godzilla's taint. We get it. We get it. Just leave the poor tank alone... All it wanted was to be attached to an all aluminum, all Cerakote truck...
Looks like you've got yourself one hell of a chemical spill. Let me phone the EPA....lol
How long this product will last on a fuel tank on a daily use work truck?
Y'all had a little to much fun with this video.
For some reason I expected it to be burned after pouring gasoline and diesel on it :/

You can find the Application Guide for MC-5100 at www.cerakote.com/finishes/MC-5100Q/cerakote-clear-aluminum/
We haul hi calcium quicklime will it hold up? We have aluma clear on one now and the lime eats it right off
What did that fuel tank ever do lol
best par of all of the test 2:32
isskamm 41 lmfao yes I agree
If i paint my carburetors , to make them look shiny , will it last ?
Yep. I've been using these products and they're amazing to say the least. Check out "gun candy", its an additive can be used with cerakote clear, much like the additives for auto paints... in pearls, chameleon, and metallic effects.
Has anyone done a wood gun stock in this yet?
Seriously?!?!?
I'm dousing my Airstream in this shit.
Hahahahahahahahah verbal abuse. Need some of this stuff for sure
Have been looking for something to cote an aluminum turbo v8 engine block that will see heat it is bare cast aluminum right now will this work
If I decided to spray this over my polished aluminum Alcoa wheels could I bake them in a spray booth? So I can mount tires and install them on my semi truck rig?
No baking needed, it's an air cure product.
BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS ..PRODUCT FOR SOME TIME... I'M IN VANCOUVER BC CANADA....DO YOU HAVE A OUT LET ..OVER HERE??
Good presentation. Pretty funny
So you could polish a steel gun and coat it to protect from rust? Hmmm, intresting.
I think the drain cleaner did the most damage as the lye reacts with aluminum and not the coat
How long is the cure time?
It's tack free after 15-30 minutes, but full cure is 5 days (though parts can be installed generally after 24 hours).
Can this be used over other paints ?
We recommend using the MC-5100 over Aluminum, though we have a variety of Clear Coatings at www.cerakote.com/finishes/?tab=coatings&cat=CLEAR
Does it protect against acid and citrus shine?
Yes, though pure acids (Hydrochloric specifically) may eventually damage the coating.
Does this have to be baked on?
This is an air cure application.
So, being transparent, I suppose it's not ceramic. What's it made out of?
Top secret recipe. Not even Colonel Sanders knows!

This was funny and informative, good video!
Run a sand blaster down the whole length to simulate driving on a road, and then do all those things.
To be far , what can resist sand blasting?
Though I have sandblasted surfaces finished with H series Cerakote.. and it holds up better than most any other finish... it takes a lot of blasting to remove it.
I really could have used this about a month ago... Just finished a polished two tone custom AR... Took me weeks to hand polish EVERYTHING! 😵😵😵
Well ill be ordering some tonight!
Ethanol resistant?
Yes, it's very resistant to a variety of fuels and chemicals.
Hilarious and AWESOME! Cerakote for the win.
Did the boxer punch into the pee?
He had a glove on.... :)
I mean, step 1 was "etch the surface with NaOH", which is pretty aluminum specific and cheating. Cerekote is cool stuff but...
Coulda used the verbal abuse protection a long time ago. Neat product
Great ending 😂😂😂

We tried getting Godzilla, but he was prepping for a fight with Mothra.
I want it!!!
A perfect solution for the new aluminium F-150s.
Where do I invest and give you my money. I like the name as well very Native American
Sweet.
holy shit i need this.
Lol, that’s some strong shit.
Time to paint all my guns with a MW2 Tiger Stripe camo and coat it with this stuff...
Why you need so many guns?
lol, well done
So many EPA violations. Just kidding.
