I've heard that the male Actinidia Kolomikta (Arctic Beauty kiwi) vines have showier pink leaves, however when my male vine was still alive, I wasn't personally able to tell the difference between the leaves of it and the two females that I still have. The only reliable way to determine the sex of the plant, that I'm aware of, is to closely examine the flowers to look for anthers or pistils. Here is a good image that shows a female flower on the left and male on the right: journals.plos.org/plosone/article/figure?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0180542.g005
@@EastsideGardening They are definitely in flower now so i will check for anthers and pistils for anthers and pistols when I get home. Makes me wonder if my Paw Paw is doiecious. I got a few but maybe they're all males. They do set a little bit of fruit but it drops very quickly? TY
@@sentient8146 I don't have much personal experience with Pawpaw pollination, but I'm trying to get my young trees to set fruit with hand pollination this year. I've heard Pawpaws are self sterile and need cross pollination from a different variety for successful pollination. I do know from growing a variety of other fruit trees that they might drop fruit if the tree is not mature enough to carry it, or if the conditions are not right.
Great pro tip about bleeding the rootstock pre graft area!
Thanks. Got that tip off another TH-camr. Really helps.
Love it! Great tricks!! I was so curious about grafting a male onto female!
Hope that helps.
Hello,do you know Actinidia Rufa? I heard it is used for rootstock to graft green and gold kiwi.
I'm not familiar with Actinidia Rufa, but sounds interesting.
Hello my friend. Is there anyway to tell the difference between a male and female Arctic beauty OTHER than seeing fruit?
