Quick story: The first time I played Minecraft was on a friend's laptop in 4th grade. It couldn't run the game very well so he kept the render distance down to the minimum (I think 2 chunks but not sure). When I went home and bought the game I thought I should do the same thing despite having a better computer to play on. After building my house next to a river I went exploring and got lost. Eventually, I decided I needed to build a new house, so I did; also by a river. A few hours later I tried turning up the render distance and found my original house on the other side of the river no more than 40 blocks away. Not sure why this story stuck with me after almost 9 years, but that's my earliest memory with Minecraft on my first survival world.

Man, this made me realize how badly I wish I could see my first ever “amusement park” that I made in Minecraft. I had a “Parkour Park”, a roller coaster lovingly named “The Screaming Death” that took the player into a lava fountain to meet certain death, a shorter and non-lethal kiddie roller coaster, a rollercoaster with multiple blocks missing to make it fly from one part of the track to the other, another very long and slow-ish (as slow as I could make it) roller coaster to tour the entire park, a water slide coming down from an airplane, different mob exhibits, a party building, an archery range with mine carts to ride to make it more challenging, and multiple statues. There was much more but for the life of me I can not remember everything. Which makes it even more sad. Ugh, I miss it. I spent so long working on that world, and as I wasn’t even in my teens yet, I felt it was a grand achievement to have built such an extravagant park.
So yes, make sure you save files for your worlds that you put a lot of time into. 😔✊🏻

Back then I didn't know how the hell to play, i'd just make walls and random crap.

Wow Xisuma, you've really come a long way from those early days in minecraft.
I remember watching Xisuma's world, as well as much of the first season of hermit craft from all the hermit's channels (thanks biffa for introducing me to xisuma and the rest btw).
After that I got pretty busy, and kinda lost interest in minecraft so even when I had time I wouldn't watch it, occasionally I'd click on a video of your testing new update features, and once I saw another hermits video where they went to your season two base(you were still digging out the sand).
I rather miss the days in which I hopped on TH-cam to watch you and the other hermits.
I feel like I might go back and watch your old videos, if only I had the time to go through all those videos...
Though we've never met, and you likely dont recall reading my comments back in the day, know that I think of you as I would an old friend.

Honestly this is incredible, I’m not kidding this is blowing my mind even if these are old bases! The effort of the bases and the absolutely incredible and don’t get me started on the red stone! I’m horrible at red stone so you building a potion brewer and the way the Villegas’s just go down the rails when you don’t like their trades and all the rest of it it’s just mind blowing it’s just the effort put in to everything! I have absolutely no words because all these bases,worlds,red stone and all the rest of it, It’s just incredible and amazing and I can’t think of any other words because my mind is so blown! Personally I know what’s it like placing block after block and it being super annoying and I’m just staring at this video thinking, how could you place all these blocks, mine and just- I legit have no words these are the most incredible just stunning worlds and bases and all the rest of it ever!

I miss Hermit Hills. When everyone was building above the ground.
Yeah, not related to Hermitcraft or anything, but a personal thing. Joined a realm recently (It's okay, nothing great) and have gone WAY over the top in the past 8 or so days with my build, probably the most over-the-top survival build i've ever worked on. Still early on but it's ridiculous, and i've spent like 50 hours on it so far already. (Lost my job recently so a lot of free time. lol.)
I regret my decision to do it underground cause while it looks REALLY NICE, it takes absolutely forever even with an Efficiency 5 diamond pick to mine out one of my districts. (9 planned districts but i'll honestly probably stop after the first is done), each one is a 45x45 space with 18 block height, so yeah. (47x47 with 20 block height if you count the mined out and redone walls, ground, and ceiling.).
When Hytale comes out (I'll probably play this realm till then), I'll most likely switch over to it. In that game I think i'll mainly have above-ground builds.

This is why I liked original Minecraft so much, you didn’t have all sorts of crazy blocks so you had to get creative with making cool combinations, the shading, and just the gameplay in general.

Being spawn camped by somebody in full iron.
Me not knowing what survival was then one day being put in it out of nowhere. I built a dirt house and then tried to kill a spider. I died very quickly then deleted minecraft from my phone.

I just realised how long I’ve been watching these videos I can remember season 2 of Hermitcraft and especially season 3 extremely well. I can remember the start of season 3 and it seems like it is not 6 years ago. Love watching as many of the Hermits videos I can and seeing all this reminds me how long I’ve watched Hermitcraft as a whole. Even way back when GenerikB began the server. I've been playing Minecraft since 2009 and Minecraft has changed alot and all my first Minecraft base are still in use
My base nowadays is usually a hollowed out mountain labyrinth with hidden rooms.
7 years ago I built underground too but not like X but like 1 huge room with houses and villagers in it
While on a private SMP server myself (I'd say I don't quite play Minecraft that much lately and thus I don't play single player), since I'm the OP I would just decide the shape of the base and build it for other members to populate. Since it's a modded server, I usually would try to act quicker so that other people don't just leave every machine outdoors.
And... They usually just joke about my building being hard to put machines into, for having too many jagged "aesthetic" areas, but in many cases it's just that we usually got to lazy to move the machines and I effectively built a big storage bunker.
And I usually hate underground because it's hard to make it look pretty. However I love building cross-floor houses (houses that are stuck into the mountain).

I remember the first time i played minecraft was in 2009, literally when it was called the cave game! I was at best buy with my dad, i was only 3, and the beta was on a computer. Me, being curious, tried it out, just to see if it could contest to angry birds, mind you, and i was amazed! At the time, there really was nothing much to the game, so i still though that angry birds was the best, but i did get my dad to get it on our pc. Man the memories!
