As someone who has been obsessed with “Dreamgirls since I was 3 years old, and have seen the Broadway musical stage production as well as the film literally hundreds of times, your response to the movie is one of the best reviews I’ve ever seen. Your sincere enthusiasm and real time reactions were highly entertaining! Well done… 😂
The music industry had a habit of doing their young artists dirty back on the day. Effie really did work hard, but wasn't noticed for her stronger sound. Deena was much thinner or lighter, so she was what the charts wanted. It wasn't the Dreams for the world, it was Deen and the Dreams. Poor Effie was left pregnant and betrayed by her own family and her musical roots were violated. I understand that whole "no taking money" thing. That was strength. Sure, Effie was a little stubborn, but she was right to never suck in to the game. The evil hustling ruins young artists all the time. Curtis plotted to play those girls from the beginning. He never loved them. They were property to him. He made that perfectly clear. I know I would've fought hard and started over like Effie did
Yes. And the actor who played Marty in the movie replaced the original actor who played Jimmy on Broadway, and the actress who plays Deena’s Mother also played Effie later in the run…
I just noticed that the three ladies in the red dresses during The Dreams’ version of One Night Only were also a reference to an early production or TV performance of Dreamgirls.
Great reaction :) The last show from Jimmy Early is the best of the complete movie! The moment he come finally back to himself and his music after so many years of music for the charts, Music not from his heart. At the end he was have all back even if he loose all.
Nah, Curtis was a bad dude from the very beginning. Remember he bribed the talent show guy to make sure they wouldn't win? That's so he could take advantage of their disappointment and weasel his way into managing them. Remember when he sang "When I first saw you" to Deena? But when he first saw them, he latched onto Effie. Why? Because she was in charge so he knew winning her over would get him in. But he was actually attracted to Deena all along. He was a sleaze from day one.
Actually, that’s not really why she was picked. He chose Dena bc ver voice was simpler and could cross over to pop, unlike Effie’s voice which was more powerful. Also Dena was thinner and Curtis really wanted her the whole time. Colorism is another element of why Dena advanced but that’s not the only or even the main reason. Also in the original play, the playwright purposely wanted them all darkskinned to avoid colorism being a factor
Yep the Princess and the Frog was in 2009. Yes it was based in New Orleans, and it's based on the story the Princess and the Frog. It was (I believed) was Disney's perdominant Black cast. Yes Effie was at that time was pregnant at that time. You should have seen it at the movies years ago. lol
Aha! I'm a avoid Dreamgirls Play Fan through the decades 4 to be exact but! But when I heard the announcement of the movie being made? The 1st panic attack came and there were two question/thoughts I had was Who/Whom? Who would play Effie? Jennifer Hudson? Okay slam dunk! Jamie Fox? Slam dunk! Eddie Murphy? James Thunder Early? Slam Dunk! But? But Denna? My being a Diana Ross Fan who reached, 'Ross-Dom,' going on 5-decades Whomever entertained the thought of playing her would have to bring it 105%! Beyoncé? Wrong! Because there should have been a nationwide/worldwide search for such an earthy/heavenly being! I wanted to be shocked out of my mind upon 1st laying eyes on her but they come with Beyonce’s and? And there are beautiful cakes made but it done not mean? The cake will taste good! Beyoncé has access to any face guru to hair to gown but that spark that Diana Ross had even the 1st Deena in the play Sherly Lee Ralph had some shoes to fill & that she did! We needed to be shocked right out of our socks man! J-Hudson raised the bar to roof coming closer than anybody else on this great earth pulling, 'Effie,' off! Nobody else could touch Effie like she did! We needed a known unknown, 'female,' 1st to play Denna & she should have been let lose from the jump front giving us time to get over our anxiety and with that opening 1st sung/act should have flipped the world at large all over the dammed place and! And a real 2nd act opening just let J-Hud left us! The unknown lady who played Denna should have kept the shock and minimum up from their! Wear us down like a before, during and after R. Herself left us after leaving the stage! I mean, 'F***ked up with satisfaction. I did not leave the movie theater feeling that but only J. Hudson's interpretation of, 'I'm telling you, etc.,' simply rang in my ears even today still! Both Jennifer’s does! I'm sorry but Beyoncé did not do it for me one bit! She was okay? But okay was not what the movie needed! We needed a lady/female who took us up to, ‘Ross-Dome, as only Diana Ross Could or close to just like J. Hud Did! PEACE & I hope to live to see a remake of Dreamgirls & this time? Upon leaving the movie theater filling so dam full like only presently Diana Ross herself can only cook to day & sell the meal filling everybody up! No dish on beyance’ at all! She did her best but her best did not do it!

btw Loretta Devine was one of the original Dreamgirls! she was Lorrell

@@gaiapurpure Omg yes I just realized
"is she gonna bite him?" 😭 Lorrell was probably the softest of the group, she would never

Curtis picked her because she looks white, and she appear to the audience at the time! A lot of people did it at that time! It’s called passing

SORRY FOR THE DELAY GUYS! I MUST HAVE RE-EDITED CUZ OF MUSIC A DOZEN TIMES! HOPEFULLY IT STICKS!

It also stars the Lorrell actress Anika Noni Rose as Princess Tiana.
Jimmy Early doesn't die in the play. After he's fired they just never show him again.
There is a line where he’s sends flowers to Lorrell around the second to last scene
This guy defends Curtis for way too long 😅
Nice reaction
Jennifer was eliminated early in the American idol competition actually. She didn’t win.
"middle of shitsville took me out" lmao
