Back during the late 1960s, I was stationed at MCAS Kaneohe Bay on Oahu. I joined the Base Rugby football team to stay in shape while serving at a desk job. We hosted visiting teams from all over the Pacific but the best games and parties afterwards were with the Australian Naval teams. Several of their ships that visited Hawaii had Rugby football teams made up from their officers and men. There was always lots of mutual respect displayed after a match with these Australians! We always hosted a party in the visiting teams honor and I personally made friends with several "Aussies" during these parties. They made fun of my Texas drawl and I made fun of them calling cigarettes "fags", LOL. In short, I'm just glad they are on our side because they make formidable opponents! Semper Fi, TreeTop

Yeah I was gonna say, it's not like most Aussies go in the bush so it's hard for them too. They're used to the cold and heat and dangerous bugs maybe but that's about it

I have a bit of a different take on this video The ADF is in my opinion and with all due respect to other nations, the best in the world. BUT the ADF is not an offensive force, like so many other nations, such as the USA. Hence the name "Australian DEFENCE Force". It is a fighting force designed to offer the best defence of Australia that it can with the very limited resources, funding and manpower that it has. When Australia has gone to war (in the traditional sense of a war, i.e. WWI and WWII) it has done so with what we call civilian soldiers, not a professional force. Classic examples of this are those that fought at Kokoda and I believe Tobruk. Our participation in operations such as Afghanistan and Iraq were what is termed "police operations" which is different to complete war. Generally operations were to provide security to areas to allow the local population to go about their lives in relative safety and to help rebuild/improve their lives. There are obvious exceptions to this such as the SAS's involvement in the initial phase of the invasion of IRAQ, but again we're talking a small force. The ADF is not the best offensive force in the world by any means, we're not even close. Not because we don't have the quality of personnel, we just can't field a force of more than a few thousand with a small number of armoured vehicles, planes, ships and other support resources. Basically, we'd be lucky to be able to invade an area the size of the ACT and expect to then hold it. However, this comes to why I am so proud of the ADF and all the people throughout history and currently that serve. The ADF and ANZACS have always stood out in the history of conflict of being a force to reckon with BUT in my opinion, just as importantly, a force that genuinely and actively works to protect civilians. Not only that, they have always been recognised for treating local populations with respect. They have been able to work with civilians to help them and minimise the impact of conflict on them. They have also always been respectful toward the enemy, except possibly the Japanese due to their horrific treatment of civilians and POW's. Their respectful approach to locate has been demonstrated over and over again in Timor, New Guinea, Vietnam, Korea, Europe, Turkey and so on. So here is my different take ...... ADF personal are not tough bastards, they are professional soldiers/sailors/airmen that do their jobs but remain empathetic to those people caught up in conflict that need help. They put their life on the line to help people and will always stand up for what is right. It's not brute, gross toughness. It's determination to do what is right and to do their job. Notable actions the ANZACS have shown it's professionalism and this attitude in include Coral-Balmoral, Long-Tan, Kokoda, Timor, Borneo, Boer War, Gallipoli, Le-Hamel, Paschendale, Beersheeba, Tobruk, Rwanda, etc. etc. These are notable for the absolute determination of the ANZAC's and respect for humanity. God bless them all. Please remember those who have served in conflict zones that are alive and suffering terribly. Please hold out your hand and give them the support they need. We all know that there is nothing better in this world than an Aussie looking you in the eye, shaking your hand and saying "how's it going? Do you need a hand with anything?"
"To stand between Home and War's desolation" Great to see our blokes in action! And we will never forget what America did to help us repel the Japanese in WW2.

This video was taken up in Queensland at Shoalwater Bay Training Area (SWBTA). Note most of the training up north gets done in 'winter'- July- August. Its not really a 'winter' as such because Northern Australia has effectively only 2 seasons, a wet and dry. But its still pretty warm and dry which makes things pretty dusty. The training is better to take place in the dry season as the wet season really is wet, further north the roads get flooded and cyclones ( =hurricanes) present a big risk. The month after TS is completed, usually in September- October, the Singaporeans lease SWBTA off us and get the kind of training, especially manuoeuvre training, that you cannot get on a small island!

The Apache chopper is one of the most amazing weopons platforms ever. I am not trying to say war and death is good I'm just admiring the engineering of a bird that is so beautiful and deadly. I wish Australia got to buy a few.
@@geoffroberts1126 Yer I heard that too what we need next is the A10 warthog. The US Has since Vietnam devoted Air mobile chopper's and offenceive Air support because more often then most the Anzacs are in the thick of it at the sharp end.
@@robertsmith2649 Possibly not the A10 itself, but a dedicated CAS successor. There has been some attempt to paint the F35 as this, but those at the coalface in USAF aren't buying it. I do think it will have a successor, whether that is a significantly more advanced manned CAS platform or (perhaps more likely) an unmanned platform of some kind, remains to be seen. It must be considered that aircrew are a prize to some enemies. Not someone you stick in a prison camp until it's over, but someone you use for propaganda, or as a bargaining chip, so taking aircrew alive is worth a lot to, say, insurgencies like we have seen recently. Aircrew know this too. A Russian pilot blew himself up when it was obvious he would be captured in Syria, which was both courageous and saddening, because he doubtless felt he would be in that position and probably unlikely to survive and have a whole lot of bad things happen to him he preferred to avoid. Vechnaya pamyat'. So for various reasons, I think the A10s successor might well be unmanned, because low level CAS ops over the battlefield are more likely to result in aircraft and aircrew casualties than something like an F35 with stand off weapons miles away.

I know this isn't something you'd expect to hear from a year 8 girl but I want to be in the army, it's the only job that's ever appealed to me. I don't want to sit in an office all day
indeed my cousin in the army gave me the same advice. He told me to just ignore the women's requirements and follow the men's which is what I've been doing
it will make your life easier and it also wont give others excuses not to accept you its not that we don't like Females being in the military its that they have a much lower standard of fitness which on paper seems great because equality and all that but in reality it can get people killed
many girls actually do. you'll learn that by joining army cadets. I'm in year 8 too and joined cadets about 6 months ago. definitely give it a search and there's sure to be a unit near you. definitely a good way to have a small taste of it all and its something to exercise that passion for the army. good luck!
If you are shot in that area, you either get a flesh wound or dead, But it allows you to hear better in engagements requiring more stealth while protecting your skull.
They are talking about their brutal training as though they are summarizing some boring corporate meeting. Nothing thing phases these Australians. I would not mess with these guys.
Nice to see the other side of the engagement! Much fewer jams on the Aussie side. Either they have better blanks, better equipment or (least likely) better training. Comments below please.
We maybe small in force..but hopefully we still pack a mighty punch for good and bravery in adverse conditions..🦘🇭🇲take care lads..admiration at it's Zenith for ya..back up..NO WORRIES..👍💪
In our PC fueled world, these boys probably have to ask for the enemies permission before they shoot them, or they will have to deal with a sad angry woman who will try to jail them.
The only one coming across as sad and angry is the guy commenting about how oppressed he is on a video that has nothing to do with anything he's written.
@david M Well I don't know how ex you are, but I'm only 5 years out of 2 Cav. What I'm seeing in the video looks just fine to me and pretty much the same as when I joined in '98. There will always be people that whinge about change and, as you know, soldiers whinge better than anyone. ;-)
Once we finally kick the chinese out of the contract lease of Darwin harbour ( to be finalised soon ) and the increase of 'training' co-operation between USA and Australia , we will be in a more favourable position regarding our Northern coastline. This port will mean the ability to have nuclear subs ( powered - not armed as yet ) stationed for 'training' purposes in readiness for our new Attack class subs being built. No dunny paper these days
@@hanoitripper1809 lmao
No SAS were used in the production of this feature.
I feel safe now having seen this video that if we ever get attacked by random scrub our army can defend us
The dust is still the same , that .5 makes it's presence known .
Ex Aussie Army loved working with my yanky mates
01:57 what is that machinegun? Is it some sort of mini gun?
It an M2 50.cal.
Thanks. Just doesn't look familiar to me.
The BFA probably threw you off
It is a blank firing attachment on the Browning .50 Cal.
No
Do they use any performance enhancing stuff? Stimulants etc.
Hitler once said “Give me 2 Australian divisions and I will conquer the world.”
Brent B I have heard that attributed to Rommel during or after the North African campaign.
"If I had to take hell, I would use the Australians to take it and the New Zealanders to hold it." -Erwin Rommel.
That was allegedly Rommel!
Quotes without any real source.
It was rommel
I've been to a few of their Christmas Parties. They Fight Hard, Work Hard and Fuckin Play Hard! Straaaaaaaaaaaya!!!
I know this isn't something you'd expect to hear from a year 8 girl but I want to be in the army, it's the only job that's ever appealed to me. I don't want to sit in an office all day
Go for it 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
if you're going to aim for the Army make sure you get your fitness to the male standards forget the female standards
indeed my cousin in the army gave me the same advice.
I'm in year 8 too and joined cadets about 6 months ago. definitely give it a search and there's sure to be a unit near you. definitely a good way to have a small taste of it all and its something to exercise that passion for the army. good luck!
That a mole or a tick @ 3;36??
What is it with this helmet at the beginning with the open ear section on the side , doesn't leave much protection overall .
If you are shot in that area, you either get a flesh wound or dead, But it allows you to hear better in engagements requiring more stealth while protecting your skull.
Comms / muffs
Ear protection not bullet proof just dampens sound of guns
04:37 That would be a whole heap of bad news for somebody.
Good disciplined 3-round bursts by 2RAR SAW and MAG-58 gunners.
Minimi saw
Proud of our diggers !
They are talking about their brutal training as though they are summarizing some boring corporate meeting. Nothing thing phases these Australians. I would not mess with these guys.
Pretty sure that tank was from my troop 3:01
Sound won't work 😤
Nice to see the other side of the engagement! Much fewer jams on the Aussie side. Either they have better blanks, better equipment or (least likely) better training. Comments below please.
I think it's called video editing.
So does that mean our cam crews are not as competent? Or they just don't edit well?
Probably both
I concur since your country lays it out up front as to what to expect when you sign up. But, I had to be "politically correct". :-)
I guarantee our weapons jam all the damn time. Blanks are just awful for it
We maybe small in force..but hopefully we still pack a mighty punch for good and bravery in adverse conditions..🦘🇭🇲take care lads..admiration at it's Zenith for ya..back up..NO WORRIES..👍💪
My left ear loves this
In our PC fueled world, these boys probably have to ask for the enemies permission before they shoot them, or they will have to deal with a sad angry woman who will try to jail them.
There will always be people that whinge about change and, as you know, soldiers whinge better than anyone.
;-)
Is that in Darwin?? Looks like it
Obi Quinn most of it is at shaolwater bay
All of it is in shoalwater
Hear hear. There should be more joint exercises
3:48 Bloody nice Biro mate
What are they shooting at
6:25 full on Aussie charge!
The tank sounds like a steam train lol
Once we finally kick the chinese out of the contract lease of Darwin harbour ( to be finalised soon ) and the increase of 'training' co-operation between USA and Australia , we will be in a more favourable position regarding our Northern coastline. This port will mean the ability to have nuclear subs ( powered - not armed as yet ) stationed for 'training' purposes in readiness for our new Attack class subs being built.
We are glad you are on our side U.S. !
The M1 at 3:04 don't sound too healthy....
Its a train
2:45 excellent burst control
How do they know if they hit anything when they shoot lol?
P K its more going through the actions than anything else.
You hear a ow
Ready for ya China! Come and get us!
Star Child Vanuatu might be getting a 🇨🇳 base soon- don't go overseas, you'll be needed here in oz
China won't take us, they need us because we buy most of their shit mate.. China is aiight :)

No need. They've already bought all of our politicians😂

Kiwi boys, brothers in arms..Maori brigade ww2 was something else..they was feared by many
Might not be the best, but we still have our great forces
