I may have mentioned this before I can't remember if I mentioned it to you or someone else. I had asked someone in a group years ago when I had decided to stay with thiscreligon, what the difference between runes and sygials were (I was starting my journey. I was told to stock to ruins as sygials could be difficult and dangerous if a person didn't know what they were drawing and once I got comfortable with sigals (not sure of the actual spelling), that are in teaching or guide books to use them as that would be OK to use as long as it was drawn and used properly. So I've stayed clear of them. 😊 I also don't use the pentagram, I use the triple goddess )O( or the Triquetra. I never know what or how it was made, by the person who drew or made them, I don't know what intentions were put into it.
A rune is a letter in a set of related alphabets (runic alphabets) native to the Germanic peoples. So in essence, they were initially used to write Germanic languages (with some exceptions) before the Latin alphabet was adopted. Of course they have an energy to them, and have also been used over the years for magick as they have meanings. Sigils are not at all dangerous! Whoever told you that was scaremongering, whether they realised it or not. They are a beautiful, personal and powerful magick. They are only as dangerous as the person using them, or the intention crafted for a particular sigil. You might create a sigil for healing, or for attracting good things, for example. The "sigils" you see in books I would not call sigils - they are symbols. Lots of people argue over this, especially those that create sigil books (!) but really a sigil is a totally unique symbol created by the individual person. xxx
The use of you word ding bat really threw me off when you were talking about it. I was so confused when you said what it means. The picture you put up, the wording here for it is completely different from what we we taught in school (many years ago and I don't remember what it was called, we were always asked "interpret this. What does it mean?) Where I'm from (not sure about anyone else), ding bat was used for calling someone an idiot or stupid.
We would also call someone who was a bit daft a "ding bat", but you don't hear it being used in modern parlance very much. It was said a lot more when we were kids. xxx
