Been to the San Juan’s many times as my son lived in Durango for quite a while. Hiked all over. Up to Clear Lake, Highland Mary lakes, Uncomphagre, camped way out Molas Pass in winter. It is spectacular
The Local folks have the most vested interest in getting this issue taken care of. Certainly they don't need anymore help like the EPA did to the Animas a few years back.

Lived in a cabin at the north end of Vallecito Lake for years. There's some true wilderness up there.
