    I'm starting to get a real understanding of these things now thanks to your videos. We had a Genset like that parked up the road from us a while back when they needed to change out an LV link box after the old one caught fire!

    Great video. I love the passion you have for your job and electricity. Very nice piece of switchgear as well, as would be expected with the ABB name on it. Very well maintained as well; pristine inside. Great job.

    Thanks for creating these videos! I recently started working for a utility and we're getting ready to swap about 500K legacy meters for smart meters. I'm doing IT work on the billing system and have no utility background. I'm learning about registers, constants, CT/PT, ERTs, remote connect/disconnect, diversion, etc.
    Your videos are heading me better understand things. Cheers!

      Have a look at some of my meter video's. If you find any interesting electro-mechanical meters, send me a PM. as i collect interesting kWh meters

    Seen a few upgrades here where they'll have security guards to insure no-one is in the immediate area.

    I really like these videos! So did customers loose power for a time or was it instantaneous change over?

    • @RODALCO2007
      @RODALCO2007 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We had two 40 minute advertised power cuts to connect and disconnect the generator. I checked with the customers ( Mc Donalds, Petrol Station, Medical Centre) 10 minutes prior so they could close the drive through etc.

      Ok, thanks for responding! I'm guessing a synchronous switch over would be quite involved, like connecting an actual power plant to the grid with generator synchronizing. I used to work at a medical center so I know they most often have synchronous and instantaneous 'mains' backup for vital systems... though I did witness a partial backup failure that left the 'red' hospital ward outlets completely dead while the administration building had emergency backup! Not long after that, massive underground equipment at the hospital was replaced with enormous cranes.

    How do you protect the exposed contacts from the rain while you do the work? Since they were exposed. Wouldn't it create a short/arc?

      We had a tent set up over the switch unit when we took the top lid off.
      We don't want any water in these units.

    so since the switch failed to break load, did that also have to be fixed?

    • @RODALCO2007
      @RODALCO2007 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the actuator is to slow. It works on most Series 1 units but there are some it doesn't work on.

    what is the power of the genarator. and what is the voltage 1100v???? or 415??? or 240,110

    • @RODALCO2007
      @RODALCO2007 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      800 kVA at 415 Volts. Transformer LV side isolated and generator feeding into the LV fuses

      RODALCO2007 why don't they stop the electric power till the service maintenance is over . isnt it dangerous to work with live 415v . what is the normal voltage used in your home. it is 240v here in india

      Do you know what engine it had? Sounds like a CAT to me but I could be wrong. It's definitely not a Detroit Diesel though. X'D
      Edit: Crap! What do you know ... just as I posted the comment you said it. Yep, a CAT.

    All the suspense, and then the actuator didn't operate the isolator!!!

    • @RODALCO2007
      @RODALCO2007 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, actuators are a new "safety" measure but the actual movement is too slow and on some switch units the springs don't get past the toggle point fast enough. As with the dog bone the movement is a lot faster. But I have to stick to the operational protocol.
