Actually, that front tire coming loose there was a blessing. If that would have happened on the highway. It could have been a disaster for your whole family. Someone's looking out for you!
Exactly why I believe everything has for a reason!! ❤
Thank God he’s in control ❤
Looks like the ball joint nut either stripped or just backed out. My guess is the cotter pin wasn't installed, and the nut slowly spun off. Either way... yes, it's a blessing it happened at slow speeds and not at 75mph.
@@ian_fordyep, if the cotter pin would have been installed its highly likely the nut would gave rode loose until noticed and tightened up
Also thankful no one was hurt
You guys are lucky that the car broke down on your property rather than while going 65-70 mph on the way home! 😮
Spencer needs to push it over the side of there mountain and watch it crumble and bumble down the side of it. Enough of that thing already. It's wants to die and devolve back I to the earth where it belongs.
Spencer is just a prince! Patient, kind, hard working, always faithful.
Actually he has three children out of wed lock with my wifes ex girlfriend.
Wife's ex girlfriend?? So your wife was lesbian??
@@mikemontgomery7337 no my wife is a straight trans man.

Geotextile fabric is good to put down first before putting gravel down. Your gravel will not disappear into the dirt.
Definitely they should do that at least in the worst areas. Also they can spread some powdered lime over low lying areas that tend to mud up more to stabilize the ground quicker and it'll help minimize softening during rain season.
Woven geotex fabric is better for road base than the non woven ringspun type of fabric. I have done jobs where there was water coming out of hillside in path and you could drop down 12" diameter rocks and they would disappear. I covered that small "sink hole" with fabric going several feet beyond soft area and covered with crushed rock and you couldn't even tell that there was a problem area in a few days.
That’s what a road guy told me - for mushy roads with disappearing gravel
I love how instead of him being upset at her, which everything was an accident, he says are you mad at ME with a smile. Great couple!!
Yep 👍🏼🌹
The power of editing.
The kids in the mud is priceless. Exactly what they should be doing lol.
Who are you to say that’s what they should be doing? They aren’t your kids

My grandfather was a rancher, he had a tractor that he would let me sit with him and steer it. While he did stuff on his rancher, when i was 4 years old, i am 73 know and remember that like it was yesterday. Here is to hoping you son will remember riding with his dad. Then we would go eat flapjacks, which is what he called pancakes.
i just have so much respect for spencer for his patience and humor about everything over all the years, what a great dude and family. keep up the good work guys your journey has been amazing to witness.
Putting small humps in the road will divert rain water. We did them about 75 ft apart. WORKED WONDERS!!

It's so crazy to see you starting from scratch again but with children this time. I look forward to seeing the progress in years to come.

Hi guys, it doesn’t matter about things getting broken as long as you all are ok , my life changed in 2018. I lost my leg above knee, with many other ailments, you wouldn’t think how hard it is to live with only one leg but keep up the good work keep loving each other , Cliff from Logan City Queensland Australia 🇦🇺 from the big island 🏝️
Stumbled upon your channel about 3 years ago. Was hooked immediately. Your patience and kindness and love for each other and your children is a true respite from all the world’s troubles. Not to mention accomplishing great things together!
Make sure you put down a woven geotextile barrier (stabilization fabric like "US 200") beneath the gravel so your driveway lasts. Do it right, do it once!! ❤
anyone know how long the drive way is? Mine is a little over 2000 feet not counting the circle and it take 42 tons every few year to do it and its been here since 76.

I really really hope they read this advice and heed it!
Instead of gravel on that driveway. Put down 2”-4” river rock. That creates a road bed. Then next year or later you can put in large gravel. Whatever you do don’t put on cracked rock gravel. It’ll just disappear into the mud.
Don’t put down river rock, it doesn’t lock up and can’t take weight. You must use rock with all sides fractured for vehicular traffic. Trick is to use gio textile membrane and gio grid.
Another benefit of trimming and cutting back the trees where you plan to place the cabin is, it reduces the risk of the cabin being exposed if wildfires should breakout, as well as heavy storms snapping the trees👍
Sunlight is needed to keep a dry environment around the living area.
and you'll be able to see the bears coming
And the snakes will go farther into the woods.
Seeing you working with your boy in your lap was very heartwarming, Spencer. Keep that up. He will cherish that time for years to come. I'm loving the progress on your property.
I know it’s tough right now but your love, patience and hard work will bring your dreams true! We’re rooting for you!

My daughter's Jeep did that same thing.....she was just driving around a corner slowly and it happened! So sorry, but so glad he can do it and you don't have to also pay a mechanic! The kids are so adorable; can't believe how fast they're growing up.
Popular trees are short lived fast growing trees. The life expectancy for popular trees is 40 to 50 years, and at that point the heart wood is rotting out of them. This is why 30 years popular trees are harvested for lumber.
Yes
Keep the antennas verticle. If out of range, since the walkie talkies are really under powered, get high (altitude) like on top of the trailer for reception and transmission. And? If the radios are GMRS capable, put up a repeater with 50w output for improved coverage.
“I’m just going to need you to not touch anything.” How many times have all of us heard this at some point in our lives????
Love your kids, they seem game for anything.
You two are very busy beavers! Now rest during the gully washer!
You are right, the forest can now breathe.
Not only breath but a good firebreak. The way things are going I would clear enough area around a cabin to keep large trees from falling on one’s head while sleeping in the cabin. It’s a double edge sword, one needs some ground cover to prevent erosion but something that won’t dry out and become a tinder pile around one’s abode. Another wise move is to use as much fire resistant materials in the build.
I'm loving your new adventure. I can see a difference in Spencer. There's a twinkle in his eyes! Back home he looked a bit lost when he finished the house, now there's a wee twinkle!
How wonderful to be those kids, in 20 or 30 years, when they grow up, and are able to look back with these videos, see themselves grow up, working the tractor sitting on their Daddy’s lap, and having such an extensive record of their extraordinary parents, how brave they were, how beautiful and how resourceful they were, and probably still are.
Cam is definitely Spencer's mini me and Beau is MacKenzies! just adorable 😍
Protect his hearing.
Your kids are so lucky to have you two for parents. Being allowed to play outside and in the mud.....Yahoo. I would expect your children to have fewer sick days and less problems that house bound children experience. Love your new site and I am looking forward to see all the work being done. Trim around all the fruit trees and you will be rewarded in the future. Be good Be safe and hug the ones you love.
The same thing happened to my daughter’s car several years ago. She was doing about 30 mph and her car almost flipped over. I am glad it happened on the dirt road.
I am so amazed at how wonderful you two are together.
What an incredible childhood your children are having and going to have in the future
🌸⛰️🌳 xx
I thought of that also. When Spenser was backing up and going in reverse and looking backwards, the little man on his lap, was also looking backwards. That little man will know how to drive that tractor while he is quite young. Your children are getting quite an education all about life and the great outdoors. God bless you all.
The best part is they will be raised away from the modern world and its influence the simple life is the good life hard work family and values.
Kenz! It's not just you! I feel the same way! We are off grid too and run the generator for AC when we get those hot NM days. And I swear our generator broke every single time I touched it. My husband came home to me crying because I broke it again one day. This was included with a bunch of other things that I broke that day too. You're not alone in these frustrations. Off grid is no joke and it's so easy to get stressed out and feel like we're cursed. You're still doing a great job lady!
Sounds like your husband is actually a girl and maybe that life ain't for people that can't maintain or manage things...
Wow you guys! These last couple of days haven't been great. I hope that the week gets better. So much to do and so many things getting in the way! Sending good thoughts your way for some smoother days without anything breaking. (from Sandi)
I have been watching you're videos from the beginning.. I love the decision you have made to buy the new property, not only are you fulfilling your dream, you are bringing your viewers on a new and exciting journey with good content. I have enjoyed watching your videos the past 5yrs and I'm now excited to watch your new endeavor. You both are awesome people!!!
Some really tough breaks; but you guys have a great attitude. Thats a blessing right there. Stay up!
When things go bad they go bad. For us we put on shingles, painted the house and did a total restoration of the lanai last year then Ian hit our home went to hell in a bracket new roof, lanai, new paint again then 3 week ago lighting struck blowing a hole in the wall blew out all electrical including pool pump, air conditioner oh we wrecked the car one month in the repair shop & not including my wife ended in the hospital. But we go forward and appreciate what we have.
My parents and now me used to sell our large trees to a lumber company. They came in every 5 years and removed large trees that could fall or were way too tall and could cause damage with a bad snow or rain storm. and this gave all the saplings room to grow. I had a path cleared two years ago from my house to utility pole and... with the bad rain/wind storms we had in the northeast this year, trees have fallen into the cleared path and pulled down my internet wire (which still works).
Such a feel good vlog! Your kids are living their best life and they don’t even know it. Letting then self explore and playing in the mud is priceless! My favourite moments are your son screaming because he was frustrated and your daughter yelling “it’s raining” from within the forest! Great job guys, love your videos and your family! 💕💕🥰
Another great video. As someone said, your wheel coming off where it did was a blessing. On a road that would have been awful. The kids happy and covered in mud, fantastic. All it woul dhave needed was a full face plant to make it truely awsum. So happy there are such happy kids. Proves great parents
You are quickly becoming botanists and tree connoisseur’s!!! 🥰⭐️😎❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏🏡
Spencer knows all about wood and trimming bush.
Arboriculturist....
You guys are just great, love watching you so much, with your adorable children, wishing both the best of everything, you deserve it ❤️
The kids in the mud reminds me of a picnic I took my granddaughter on when she was 3 or 4. We loaded up the wagon, walked in the woods to the neighbors who has a private lake. It was the day after a nice rain and she had a ball. I must’ve taken 100 pictures. She’s 13 now and every once in a while I send her one. They’ve moved from Florida to North Carolina but we’re looking for acreage up there to be closer. You guys work well together and are raising beautiful, smart children who will learn real life lessons. Not how to play video games 20 hours a day but to use your hands and minds to create and be resourceful! 😇
Come the winter I would remove a lot more trees near the tracks/road, that would reduce the need to trim small branches. Presumably it snows there from time to time, and prevention of trees from falling is important. Additionally a tractor attachment like a flail hedgetrimmer, is very effective at quickly cutting back from one drive pass. Good to see you are digging ditches, laying culverts, that will really extend the life of the road surface.
A tough week for you guys, but seeing the children, happy healthy playing in mud. Kid heaven right there...
You guys are such an amazing couple. I loved seeing the little ones playing in the mud, just think; they will have an immune system! You have one cool headed dude there!
Take that break and reset from all the hiccups. You guys are awesome! My dad used to mark trees with paint when we were out clearing or cutting. This made it easier to come back to every time we went out for mesquite or clearing. Keep up the great work yall!
So sorry about your car damage. Good thing is you weren’t going fast on a highway when the wheel broke off. I had a tie rod break when my boys were toddlers, on a highway, before cell phones. We survived but it was super scary. I’m so Sorry for all the challenges. BUT. If anyone an handle it you two can. Y’all are rock stars!
Rooting for y’all, I believe it’s past time to up grade your transportation. Larger four wheel drive vehicle. And as far as the driveway your probably going to have to start at the beginning and work your way up the hill with stone . Time and money. I still say safety and protection, in order to protect your family. It’s better to have then not have it when necessary. Regret is a had thing to deal with when it comes to your loved ones.
This is accurate, but at the same time, they won't get it finished properly. These guys just can't, either because it keeps the cash cow mooing or because they just aren't able to due to their own failings.
@@boscoalbertbaracus1362 from my experience that’s life, those wheels keep turning it’s just a matter of priorities and your desire. Which comes first, the cart or the cow . Be happy with your decisions and move on ! To add I don’t see it as failure only as progress and learning. It would be great to know the future, only by experience can you see ahead but we still don’t know everything.
Speaking of trees, we had a tulip poplar tree in our backyard growing up. This tree was massive- as in 3 adults could extend their arms to circle it and only their fingertips would be able to touch. My dad used a river barge rope to make a rope swing and the branch never even sagged. We estimated the trees age to easily be over 100 years old and it was straight and tall and bloomed beautifully every year. One of my favorite trees 😊
that forest is calling out for a tree-house...the kids would LOVE that. We developed a way to install beams in a forest without drilling into the trunks by hanging timbers or small logs with cables from crotches of multiple trees, and ladders up to the platform by lashing rungs to two parallel trees. It's a quick and durable way to build a treehouse. [you need more projects ;>) ]
God was watching out for you all with the car! Happening there was better than happening on a road…. With a brake going out. Covering you all with a prayer. Psalm 91, to protect your journey!!! Continued blessings!
The clearing out of the small shrubs helps a lot. Cannot wait to see what you build.
Fun watching you two through all the ups and downs. You seem to handle everything with grace and humor.
Well, congratulations. You two are becoming true off grid folks. Make sure next time buy a spool (200+ feet) of cordage for generator . Otherwise I would suggest getting some round bales of hay and un rolling them on the muddy areas. Used this technique growing up to build roads going through forests. Mulch also works but there is potential for flattening tires. Those cut trees, anything 4 inches around or bigger in circumference make great fence posts. Any posts (stripped of bark) 8 feet or longer usually last several years. Posts 7-8 inches in circumference, ten foot long make strong posts for corners and these larger post add strength to your fence. Example, put in a larger circumference post, then put in 5 smaller circumference before adding another large post, then five more, another large post, and so on. A fence will also provide a sense of security. You guys are learning a lot. Keep it up
Spencer is really making progress it’s looking so good I enjoy these vlogs so much keep them comming.
Glad to see you guys are doing so well . Can't wait to see finished property. Progress going well. Love to see the Kids.
This is supposed to be a vacation property, not their full-time home, so I don’t think they intend to make it quite as large as their current home
Love you guys, great family. You’re truly blessed.

It's not MacKenzie's fault the Honda is light duty and NOT meant for off roading. You guys should buy a used 3/4 ton 4x4 with mud tires. Durability is reliability. Reliability is safety.

Be aware of which trees you’re taking out. I’ve been told by an arborist that the smaller trees protect the larger trees that they surround, especially during a storm.
I’ve experienced this first hand. The property owner of the house I was renting had previously removed a load of the smaller trees. When a storm hit, one of the remaining large, established trees came through the roof.
I’ve been following you from the beginning and never miss a video. You are truly amazing. Love it!

It comes along with the mountain life.
If you talk with Evan at Country View Acres they have some sort of flail mower that can go 90 degrees to trim trees back from road. It attaches to their tractor.
I don’t know what it is called, but it looks cool and seemed to work for them really good.
Bush hog….
Does anyone even know what state they are in ?? lol
When I see little man riding the tractor I think back when my son would ride the tractor with my dad and he would drive the tractor out here for me to come get him off because he would fall asleep in my dads arms. Usually though he would wake up screaming PAPAW!!! He took every step my dad made those spring & summers from maybe 3 till he would start school!! My dad was a preacher but decided he was through marrying people, well he did one more!! My oldest son, his little buddy 😃. Enjoy every minute it goes by so fast!! It’s awesome seeing you guys raising them to not live under a tv all day or with a iPad or iPhone even in there hands all day. Love your channel.
Spencer, heard you just talk about black locust trees; we had black locust planted around our property in Upstate NY, house built in the 1800s. The trees acted as natural lightning rods and all the tops of the trees had been hit and burnt by lightning, but lower down the trees thrived.
If you want to use a tree for fence posts, they're great. But, word of caution, if you try hitting a fence post nail into a dried out locust post, you'll only bend the nails. Basically, you have to use the fence posts whilst they've been cut down and not dried out. They're a great fence post and they'll stand firm for decades... a really hard wood when dried out - good luck.when you get around to using them
You need to put up a ridged kiddy pool that will heat during the day to let the kids bath in it! After all the mud from them having a blast playing in it, it's better than them dragging it in the trailer!
Your family is so cute! ❤
Somedays you just gotta take the bad with the good. Have a better day and God bless amen.
What a trying time on the mountain! Some weeks it doesn’t pay to get out of bed! Beau and Cam sure enjoyed themselves! Too cute! Hopefully things are getting better for you soon !
Hi Guys, love your videos! One thing that I noticed that you may need to address is the big Poplar tree that Kenzie was telling us about. You may want to cut the smaller trunk on it. With a split like that one so low on the tree, it really puts a strain on the tree as a whole. It also is a danger to the entire tree if, as in a storm, one trunk would split off. It the tree splits like that it would kill the tree.
Long shoe lace will work as a pull cord til you can get one.
Hugs You do want to try to cherish these days and really I think you guys are doing a pretty good job. I love when you share your thoughts, people do need to slow down and smell the roses…or bears. 🥰
