THE LOOK OF SILENCE is Joshua Oppenheimer’s powerful companion piece to the Oscar®-nominated THE ACT OF KILLING. Through Oppenheimer’s footage of perpetrators of the 1965 Indonesian genocide, a family of survivors discovers how their son was murdered, as well as the identities of the killers. The documentary focuses on the youngest son, an optometrist named Adi, who decides to break the suffocating spell of submission and terror by doing something unimaginable in a society where the murderers remain in power: he confronts the men who killed his brother and, while testing their eyesight, asks them to accept responsibility for their actions. This unprecedented film initiates and bears witness to the collapse of fifty years of silence.
The interviewer(Adi i believe his name was) has balls of steel, its apparent how uncomfortable he is but he still asks the tough questions , when confronting the family whose father murdered his brother he doesn't hold anything back even if he puts himself at risk. These people still live with the trauma. Although they try hard to forget

Looking forward to seeing this. The Act of Killing was a monumental piece of work which only didn't win the Oscar because of the embarrassment it may have caused the establishment.....

sadest documentary I've ever watched!
I just watched the prequel, and it's clear that the perpetrators want it to be understood that they aren't the heroes of the people that they are being portrayed as.
They were just kids with glamorous ideas, caught up in the times. At this point in their lives, they want it to unwind so you can see the horror they created. And then their victims' ghosts will rest knowing how they died?

Hannibal ...he is not blaming everyone else. Yes the killing itself happened in Indonesia and was done by Indonesian people but the USA was involved. Just do a little research. They sent weapons and lists with communist names to the indonesian regime and Oppenheimer himself says USA should take responsibility for that

the entirety of blame does not lay with US, their involvement does not absolve Indonesia of it's disgusting past, nor does the fact that all the perpetrators commiting these truly horrific Acts were Indonesian absolve US

Well... war happened in my country too. And we could blame USA for the whole day. However, you have to take the responsibility. In the end, it was us who listened to them, took the weapon and start shooting at each other.
