Very nice and informative video. Just have a doubt if an assistant or aide has breached the confidentiality of a patient. Then also we should inform d senior staff and nursing staff. And should we withdraw that assistant or aid from d case immediately?

It sounds like the UK and the US have the same confidentiality "agreements".
But it really comes down to this: your health care provider can break confidence for almost any reason.

The issue of confidentiality and privacy in healthcare is a complex and multifaceted ethical concern. In the video "Medical Ethics 3 - Confidentiality & Privacy," medical professionals explore the ethical considerations surrounding patient confidentiality and privacy in healthcare settings.
The principle of confidentiality is rooted in the ethical principle of respect for autonomy, which emphasizes the importance of individuals having control over their own information and medical decisions. Patients have the right to expect that their personal and medical information will be kept confidential and shared only with those who have a legitimate need to know. Medical professionals have a duty to protect the confidentiality of patient information and to ensure that it is not disclosed without the patient's informed consent.
The video highlights the importance of maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality in a variety of healthcare contexts, including medical consultations, electronic health records, and research studies. The importance of maintaining patient privacy is particularly important in the era of electronic health records, which can facilitate the sharing of sensitive medical information across different healthcare providers and institutions. The video emphasizes the importance of adopting strong privacy policies and technologies to protect patient information in these contexts.
Another important ethical consideration related to confidentiality is the issue of breach of confidentiality. Breach of confidentiality occurs when patient information is disclosed without the patient's consent, either intentionally or unintentionally. Breaches of confidentiality can have serious consequences, including damage to the patient's reputation, loss of trust in healthcare providers, and legal liability. The video explores the various measures in place to prevent breaches of confidentiality, including strict policies and procedures for handling patient information and training for healthcare providers on best practices for safeguarding patient privacy.
The principle of beneficence is also relevant to the issue of confidentiality in healthcare. This principle requires that medical professionals act in the best interests of their patients and do no harm. Maintaining patient confidentiality can be seen as a way of promoting patient well-being and trust in the healthcare system. By respecting patient confidentiality and privacy, medical professionals can help to establish and maintain positive relationships with patients, which can ultimately lead to better health outcomes.
Finally, the principle of justice is also relevant to the issue of confidentiality in healthcare. This principle requires that healthcare resources and benefits be distributed fairly across society. In the case of confidentiality, this means that healthcare providers must ensure that patient information is shared only with those who have a legitimate need to know and that patient privacy is protected regardless of factors such as race, gender, or social status.
In conclusion, the issue of confidentiality and privacy in healthcare raises important ethical concerns related to respect for autonomy, beneficence, and justice. Medical professionals have a duty to protect patient confidentiality and privacy while ensuring that patient information is shared only with those who have a legitimate need to know. By approaching these issues with sensitivity and care, healthcare providers can help to establish and maintain positive relationships with patients and promote better health outcomes.

As a doctor, how to offer confedentiallity, is it OK to tell him, feel free to tell me any thing, or I should clearly tell him, whatever we discuss, no one outside us will know about, is confedential as no harm to any one

Confidentiality is about health. What about crime? If a patient states they have commited a crime. A crime that is part of the health like seeking pain relief not prescribed? Or, anxiety?
Purchasing from illegal sources because of the lack of health care insurance.

Sorry I can't totally agree with the case of HIV+ patient and his sexual partner. If you inform the partner, HIV+ patient may spread the idea that health care workers are not securing his privacy and may lead to chain reaction that others may not take HIV test and it is a very serious problem as more undetected HIV+patient may spread the disease. Nevertheless I think it is a very good video

Hi Tsz - As doctors we have a duty of care to the population. This patient poses a significant risk of harm to others. In the UK intentional transmission of HIV, without informing the other party, is considered a criminal offence.
Reckless Transmission: Section 20 Offences against the Person Act 1861
This is a common exam question in the UK

No you have a duty of care to the partner. Where there is serious risk of harm you must breech confidentiality
