I really appreciate the translations and explanations of the songs. It adds a lot to the performance for me, as I'm not that familiar with music from India, although heavens know I've been at numerous Indian concerts!
The Egyptian music brings back memories. I lived in Damascus, Syria with my family as a little girl for about a year, and then in Beirut for most of the next year with my mother. I know Egypt and Syria and Lebanon are not the same, but the Arabic music has a similar sound. My mother then went to Thailand, and on the way we spent about 3 weeks in India. I've always been interested in music from all over the world.
The male Indian singer could really hold notes a long time! It was wonderful to hear him do that, with the Egyptian violin holding a long note along with him, and seemingly going on forever! I know that "habibi" is Arabic for "darling," and I had a pet parakeet after I returned to the States, and I named him Habibi. Incidentally, if other people drop in for the video, I hope they comment a lot, too! Don't let me be the only one!
Back again! Looking forward to this!
Here from New York City on July 8, 2022!
Love that mashup! The four musicians are really blending it up!
The Beatles loved Indian music with Ravi Shankar!

I always like to learn more about Um Kulthum! Her song in both Indian and Egyptian music was exciting!
Hey! That Indian folk music is FUN!

What about the drummer's background? He didn't speak.--Thanks.
